well presented and informative Roger, the lens affords amazing reach on M43, looks great optically too , certainly has its place in the already impressive M43 lens line up, I"m sure a lot of folk will find a lot of success with it, especially in parts of the world where the light is a bit brighter, I"m thinking here of the f6.3 at the long end.

Roger good results, I had read a lot of negative press and seen some less than impressive results on the lens. I am not keen on the trombone zoom but i guess that is a price issue. Looking forward to the camera review, I have to confess I don't see much to race out and buy, but the rubber dials sound very good, the AF sounds an improvement but I don't have too many issues with AF in the MK1. I think the Mk III may be the one to wait for.

Even at 2kg, I reckon this lens will be extremely popular. Yes the Sigma design will annoy a lot of people with the price hike but you can't get this specs anywhere else. OM system has modified it and put Sync IS at 6ev for the long end, if that's true and 1200 at 6 EV, that's even better than the 150-400 pro because with the built in teleconverter, I don't think it will have 6 EV anymore. It has better weather sealing than the Sigma and it works with the two MC teleconverter, you are not getting these features with the Sigma lens alone and you can to 1200mm with m43 instead of a crop in 900mm with either APSC bodies or full frame. OM system knows it and that's why it charge us the premium

Great to see the combination of stills and video show casing the functionality of the Mkii and of course the person behind the lens creating the shots. How did you get the Procapture on that lens, when it is not a Pro lens? I have both the OM System OM-1 mark ii and that lens, and I don't seem to have the Pro option. Maybe I am missing something. Your Kestral images and slow mo video are simply awesome! Great shots!
@rogerhance5883
@rogerhance5883 Месяц назад
Thanks for commenting. You do not need to have a `pro lens ` to use ProCapture. It will work on lenses that are not `Pro lenses` , it just that you will not get the full frame rate burst that is achievable with the pro lenses. For example, a Pro Lens will do SH2 at 50frame per second. The no pro lenses will do ProCapSH2 , but only at 25 frames per second. I hope this makes it more clear. Thanks for the very kind comment about the Kestrel and video. Its much appreciated.

I currently have the 40-150. Very nice, but I'd like a longer lens and been considering the 150-400. This looks better for me in many ways, but for the price I feel it should be a pro lens. Also as it seems to be a Sigma lens that has been rebranded at 3x the price there needs to be some justification of the price from OM systems; and clarity as to whether there are significant upgrades that justify the price. It would also be nice to see the results with a 2x convertor; if only because it would be a good check on the quality.
@rogerhance5883
@rogerhance5883 6 месяцев назад
So far, I have only tested it with the 1.4 converter, so cannot say what its like with the 2x. I would imagine, althought only guessing, that you would see some loss of quality with a 2x.

Roger, thanks for making videos for 150-600. I have a question as a 100-400 owner. Does 150-600 have same kind of restrictions which 100-400 has? - such as in frame rate and image quality at SH mode?
@rogerhance5883
@rogerhance5883 5 месяцев назад
The maximum frame rate for the 150-600mm is 25frame per sec on the OM1. The advantage of the 150-600mm over the 100-400 is that the image stabilization works in tandem with the camera body.

ignoring the benefits of zoom would I get similar results with my 300mm f4 with a x2 convertor as I would using the new lens at 600. The effective aperture would be the same? I love my 300 which I often use with a x1.4 but not as yet considered a x2. I do fancy the reach of a 600, especially, as Roger alludes to , when at reserves.
@keithholland4322
@keithholland4322 6 месяцев назад
The 150-600 has a maximum aperture of f/6.3 at 600mm whereas the 300mm f/4 has a maximum aperture of f/8 with the MC-20 2x teleconverter. However, it would be interesting to see how the image quality and focus speed compares. I would accept losing 2/3 of a stop of light at the telephoto end if the images were a lot sharper and autofocus was much faster and I could get an extra 2/3 of a stop at the wide end, since I only occasionally feel the need for more than 400mm or so.

The OM System is amazing for what it is - a lightweight yet powerful system. The debate between full frame and pro lenses (Crop) and M4/3 cropped sensor and pro lenses (reach) will debate until FF prices come down to earth. I can see myself switching to a Nikon z8 + 500 mm and then using a crop to achieve better resolution and low light than I can now with OM-1 + 300 pro + 1.4 TC.

I think what you need is someone to drive the car and sit in the back seat. I haven't been to Elmley nature reserve for a while I didn't remember it being that great it's not too far for a drive 11/2 hrs away. Were you shooting 4k120 and slowed it down on the kestrel video? with AF? The new G9 II looks good as well has 4K120 the old OM1 could have easily had it too with a firmware update.

How does this lens compare to the similarly-priced 300mm f/4? Would you recommend buying this lens or a 300mm f/4 and a pair of teleconverters? In particular, I'm wondering how the image quality and focus speed of the 300mm f/4 when used with the MC-20 compares to that of the 150-600mm at 600mm.
@rogerhance5883
@rogerhance5883 6 месяцев назад
Thanks for commenting. Although I no longer have the 300mm F4, it was an incredibly sharp lens, and I would imagine that in a test, the 300mm would win regarding sharpness. The problem with a fixed lens is that if the bird comes closer, you will not be able to get all of the bird in. Having said that, the 300mm F4 is probably the sharpest lens I have ever used, and its still pin sharp with both the 1.4 and the 2x.
@keithholland4322
@keithholland4322 6 месяцев назад
@@rogerhance5883 Thanks! I guess I'll be saving up for it! I've actually been trying to decide between that one and the Pana/Leica 200mm f/2.8, which is reported to be sharper, even with the 1.4x teleconverter. I guess the question is just whether I would use a 200mm or 600mm focal length more often and whether I would have any use for 50 fps bursts with AF. I'm not worried about image stabilization because IBIS is good enough. I already have the 40-150 and both teleconverters, so I have another option if anything comes too close. The 200mm f/2.8 would be better for photographing beavers and muskrats because I can often get closer to them, but usually it's right around dusk. The 300 with a 2x would be better for more distant subjects like birds, otters, and moose on the lakes when I'm shooting from a kayak. It's going to be a touch choice! Maybe one day I'll end up with both!

@@rogerhance5883 Yeah, I really wish OMDS would make an f/2.8 prime lens in the 250-300mm range with a built-in teleconverter that weighs and costs less than the 150-400! A brighter aperture really makes a difference when the light starts to fade.
