Testing out the new Grapple Rake on the TYM Tractor. 72 inch Double Grapple Rake. 

Only thing you forgot on the recent service of the TYM tractor was to locate the back up alarm, professionally remove it, and use an 87 pound sledgehammer and smash it into a billion pieces. Place the pieces in a 1500 degree bonfire, never to be seen or HEARD from again. Lol. Thanks for the great vids Evan.

From my experience I have one thing I’ve noticed.. don’t clamp the grapple tight before you unhook. I have found that it pressurizes the line and can make hooking it up the next time more difficult and messier with dripping fluid

I can’t tell you how many back breaking man hours that would have saved me in the last 5 years! Enjoy! Will pay for its self one hundred fold

In a comment session after Josh at Stoney Ridge Farm reviewed a couple of tractors, we got into a discussion of tasks needed, and I mentioned that a grapple would be more handy that a shirt pocket. We have 1200 yards of piles of MF Rose, cedars, and other sprouts along the fence we cleaned out and a grapple would be perfect for consolidating into piles to burn. One thing to consider is breaking the habit of loading it like we’d load a bucket, with the bottom flat to the ground and pushing through to fill. Think about tilting it forward with the jaws open until the rake and the clamp teeth are level, then pushing down to compress the pile and closing the jaws. I think you’ll fill the grapple with more brush, and you can take multiple bites that way. Grab one, pick up, move over another, lower until just above, let the first one go, then push down and grab both bites at once. Give that a try. I don’t know if that would pick up the firewood or not. Maybe after you close the jaws you tilt it back to level the rake would help that. Good purchase for your farm activities.

Doesn't it always start to rain on an outside project, especially when you trying to do a video. LOL Make clean up so much easier with that grapple. I am seeing more and more TYM tractors being used on farms and homesteads. Might have to look into a smaller one for our use.

Why do you not feed your goats with all the leaves you get when cutting branches. It is among the best feed for goats. AND chickens.

Great timing, I ordered the exact same thing a couple of weeks ago. Just bought my tractor and going to pick it up today actually. I went ahead and ordered the grapple (after much searching and pain and turmoil - lol) since I knew it would be a few weeks before it would come in. I was able to specify which couplers it needed to come with so kind of surprised you weren't able to. Guess it just depends on who you order it from. It's great to hear an opinion from someone who is about at my level as far as tractor knowledge... well, you do have more experience than me.. for the moment at least.. lol.. Thanks! You are going to love that grapple. I have one on a Bobcat skid loader that I use quite a bit. Of course, I am still clearing areas of my property so I use it often. I can root up and pull out small trees and brush with ease. As with any other equipment, it takes practice and time to learn how to use it efficiently. I'm still learning new "tricks" with mine.

You might want to consider welding some expanded metal to your grill guard and provide some protection to the front of your tractor. The cost will be less than the cost of replacing the front cowling and and any radiators damaged by a stick going through the grill.

Instead of switching the hydraulic connectors maybe take a look inside your joystick and see if you can switch the wires around on the toggle switch. That way it’ll work “backwards”. If you switch the hydraulic connectors you’ll have to do that for everything that uses the third function. Switching the wires will make it work the same way for everything.

Just purchased a new tractor with a grapple. Such a work saver moving brush, logs, limbs, etc. So useful.

Wow! I'll bet we are all wishing you had gotten that rig about three years ago! My back feels better already! :-)

Grapples are so useful on farms. They are useful for things that only a farmer would think of like throwing hay over the fence in to a muddy field.

The best thing I've found a use for the grapple is barn cleanup. We shovel the barn out in front then drive the tractor into the pile and grab it to move it.

The grapple is a great tool. Use mine all the time.

If you are lucky and follow your hoses back you may find another place the hoses are coupled and hopefully both male or both female at that point and you can just swap the hoses there rather than swap your couplers up front.

Round bales, fence post and lumber you’ll make your money back with that attachment quick.

you need to look into an equalizer valve for the grapple. Equal movement until preset pressure reached , then override.

Hi Evan , have a feeling your leaning toward full time farming when you retire with amount of attachments you’ve accumulated. Be careful you may get what you wish for. 80 hour work weeks. I noticed on your burn 🔥 pile a pallet. I dig a hole in burn pile and put anything with nails into hole to prevent flats in It ,you can also use magnet 🧲 to retrieve later Vert expensive fixing filled tractor tire flats last time a service call was $900 on my big tractor 🚜

Was surprised to hear your reasoning for wanting a grapple that clamps down tighter than the ones that leave a big hole. The big hole allows you to grapple around a large log/tree, plus compress and pick up a LOT more brush at one time. This is almost entirely what I use mine for, and I'm considering making new grapple clamps that are arched so I can create an even larger opening when they are closed. Being able to carry almost twice the amount of brush would cut down on a LOT of traveling time and overall time it takes to clean up areas. BTW, does that unit have grease fittings? That single really long pin/hinge for the clamps is the first one of those I've seen.

Roll forward when you are ready to close as you are still going ahead will pick up more. Just a little

I think you might have better success using your grapple if you changed the method of pick-up. After pushing your pile together, position the grapple claws above the pile and then grasp the pile.

The grapple looks great! Hopefully my mini grapple for my subcompact Tractor will arrive soon. I've been waiting almost 8 weeks now, but such is life these days.

Q: does the grapple rake only as a rake? Or can you open the jaws, raise them, and tilt it forward so that both pair of teeth come down in front of and behind something and then close the mouth around the load? Hope that made sense. It did to me. :-)

If you’re wanting to pick up firewood rounds, position the grapple like a claw machine at an arcade.come at the pile from the top instead at straight at it from the side.

before you switch the connectors you should be able to switch it from the control in the cab.

Great addition. One more addition to your equipment line I would suggest is buying a good used haybine. It will eliminate a lot of your head aches you had cutting hay with a sickle mower.

On the most recent video at Fall Line Ridge he used the grappling hooks to lift his old tractor to fix a front tyre! 😀 Seems there are many and varied uses.

I like the pins on the grapple. Seems like the grapple jaws could be removed easily now in case you want just the rake feature alone without the jaws getting bound up in whatever your are pushing with the rake.

Just wondering Evan if you have a control switch over (normal around the seat area) to change the control system type. At least that's where it is on my machine lol

I had to swap the couplings on my hydraulic hoses also. Now On my toggle switch up Open and down is closed

I would recommend running at a higher rpm. When using the grapple even when you feel like you are putting to much power to them they just work better that way.
