I suspect the Perlite would help reduce evaporation and minimize smell if you didn't check the traps often in any bucket trap.

I have built traps similar to this in a 5 gallon bucket. I don't think you need the pearlite as I just used a layer of sunflower seeds and they float all by themselves.

I have to admit though, both the mouse and rat looked cute. I usually don't find most rats cute.

As someone with a mice issue at home, seeing all the clutter of traps made me think of how great a place it would be for mice to hide. Then I realized the irony lol

I dislike mice and rats around my home. Just last week I caught 2 on successive nights using a glue trap. While the tiny mice was struggling in the glue trap I went ahead and smashed the head using a big wine bottle. Blood splattered all across the bathroom sink. That's the way to deal with pests.🤪🤪🤪

Too many whiny folks here don't realize just how important this channel is. Mice and rats are a real problem. And 'life hacks' and 'do it yourself' videos rarely show the consequences of the traps they recommend. This channel lets you know the effectiveness as well as the level of cruelty of all traps. Without judgement. This channel will take someone who has a mouse problem and let them see every trap they could possibly build and the horror they're about to inflict on those mice. Some traps are very humane. Many are not. And this channel shows you the results. And it may convince someone to spend a little extra cash not to cause undue suffering when they start dealing with their rodent infestation.

We just use 5 gallon buckets and sunflower seeds, we call them chipper dippers. The pearlite isn't necessary, the seeds will float on there own.

I don't understand how people are so naive to be offended by this. You don't want to be living with wild rodents. In order to keep them out of your home people needed to get rid of them/prevent them and this means often killing them. Rodents that spread the Bubonic Plague in Europe, and also carry other diseases in the modern day are not something you want to be dealing with where you live and eat.
