Testing out the Vanson Locking Guitar Tuners from amazon. Installing and testing with a floating tremolo bridge. my review on how well they work when subjected to some floyd rose abuse.

Seems you wound those string around the posts several times which defeats the object of Locking tuners .

Indeed. I didn’t do it as I should have. Locking tuners are also pointless on this guitar as the locking but works perfectly anyway. I think I will make another video with these tuners on another guitar and test them accurately as I do know what I should be doing. I blame 2020 insanity for my thought process in making this video 😂

Yep, you just pull them straight through and tighten the pin. That's the beauty of them.

You have a locking nut, largely makes the locking tuners redundant. Would be better to test them on a non floyd guitar

True. That’s why the test are done with the nut left unlocked to test the tuner :) this is my project/test guitar so is just used for reviewing things. I won’t be leaving these on this guitar.

Tuners shouldn’t be judged by staying in tune with a Floyd Rose. No tuner can be faulted for decreasing and increasing the tension so extremely. It’s the smooth feeling, the solid gearing and the strong clamp down on locking tuners. The higher gear ratio, like 18:1 minimum for fine tuning. Good finish and solid construction are what makes a good tuner. And it’s not redundant to use locking tuners ever. The locking nut is to maintain tuning with the Floyd. The locking tuners are for ease of string replacement. …like the other guy said.

I've used these Korean made Vansons loads of times. They're solidly made and totally reliable. I've never had one fail on me yet nor have I ever received a faulty one

never understood a locking NUT and locking machine head tuners ?

Fair. The tuner helps both hold tune and make re-stringing easier. The locking nut is simple for holding tune while using a floating tremolo. so they are a little redundant together but its like a seatbelt and an airbag. you dont really need both, but its better to have both if you can.

Btw I have a solar s1.6 with Solar locking tuners and Evertune Ftype. A fucking life saver on string change!

I love Solar guitars and I have the Evertune with locking tuners on my Halo custom guitar as well. It's a great set up for the studio for sure!

@@TheGuitarNinja Yes. Extremely precise. String change on same gauge is a 3-4 minute Job. A snap. You just wind then up and that's that. Literally.

Tell me which brand and model of strings are broken-in after 2 retunes and I'll buy a friggin' truckload of 'em. The ball ends at the tuner posts are not a big deal, however, winding the strings around the posts is not the proper way to setup this test. If you want to continue to wind strings around posts, why get locking tuners in the first place? Doing this test on a guitar that doesn't have a locking nut would be a much better setup for testing locking tuners.

My dad is one of those guys who hears it the second you go 3 cents off tune. One of those guys who has an all-day monologue on the science and curse of the naturally-out-of-tune g string. It's more annoying than helpful, honestly. When he comes over to my place and we play he just winces through the back half of any song because the little deviations that we don't hear sound very loud and bad to him. Like part of me wishes i had that ear, but part of me knows i'm happier without it.

That does sound more like a curse than a gift. The amount of things that sound out of tune to me that my newer students don't hear is painful enough, but 3 cents at all times would be killer!

I am aware, if you watched the video you'll notice I didn't lock it until after the tests. but then I locked it off anyway :)

Hi Man. Honestly you obviously don't know how locking tuners work. So you don't put the ball end - You cut the string put it in the floyd - You pull the string until it's semi hard - Then - You lock the string in with the locking tuner and tune. It saves you over 30 minutes of wind time. That's for locking tuners. However thanks for the video - I'll consider Vanson for my Jackson slatxmg3-7 upgrade

I see you didn't listen to the video. I know how to usually set them up. I have indeed cut the string to save on the winding, I put the ball end at the tuners to save having sharp edges that cut into the gig bags, or the you can catch yourself on. I also think they look nicer. Though I have pulled the string through from this end with the ball ends, I have still cut the string so I didn't have to wind the strings round much at all. Glad the video was still of some use though, and I do appreciate the feedback. I still should have cut them and pulled them tight to give the tuners a better more realistic test.

@@TheGuitarNinja Yeah, that's preference I guess. I cut my strings near the tuners so they don't portrude at all, but yes. It wasn't once I cut myself on that damn e or b. Razor sharp! Then I got some decent pliers with rubber guards. Guess it's preference.... Do you like the tuners 2 months in?

You can find these cheaper on AliExpress for around £22 (Jin-Ho marked) if you're not in desperate need. Only downside is it takes about a month to arrive from China.

You don't wind the strings with locking tuners. That is their only purpose, to make changing strings easy. Video is not a tutorial for the tuners. Just the quality, I guess.

That’s exactly it. It was meant to be a quality test. Hence keeping the licking nut unlocked and throwing in some tremolo(whammy) action.

I just bought a set....utter garbage...same as ten quid jobs off ebay.....dont waste your money..snapped two strings...sharp burrs on locking tip.....lubed the inner cogs....still stiff and notchy....way worse the the tuners of a 120 quid guitar

Are you sure you've bought the real ones? There's a ton of sellers listing cheap copies, some even claiming they're Jin Ho. Got bitten on that, the set arrived and clearly didn't match the pics, complained and got my money back, then I've even sold them locally for cheap as they were.
