This video is an introduction to the testing and verification of radial circuits.
The dead tests on a circuit will confirm that we have cable continuity, the correct polarity and switching arrangements and that the conductors are adequately protected by insulation to prevent unwanted shorts and other electric shock hazards.
The tests that are shown form the foundation of electrical circuit testing and, understanding these is essential in ensuring the safety of users of the installation.
This is explained in clear and easy to understand terms and the video will help to put the different tests into the proper context.
This video is No.73 on our RU-vid channel where we have videos on a wide range of electrical topics.

When I was doing priacticle fo 2391 I was testing continuity or big R1 and R2 between the motor connections and the main contactors on one side and it gave very big of I million ohms. Was that normal??

Your videos are certainly the best out there. I am currently studying for 2391 and these have been invaluable. Some other videos online are too fancy and full of waffle - yours get straight to the point and are simple, clear and concise. Many thanks.

Thank you so much for these videos, by far the clearest explanations I've seen. But just to clarify, if a lighting circuit has multiple points (e.g. several rooms each with a ceiling rose/ switch) presumably each and every one of the rooms needs to be tested for continuity at the ceiling rose and the switch as described in your video. If that is the case what R1+R2 reading is recorded, the highest?
@learnelectrics4402
@learnelectrics4402 2 месяца назад
Yes, correct. If the worst case passes the Zs requirements, then so do all the others. Thanks for watching. Dave.

Joining L-N together for IR test only acceptable for periodic inspection. For initial verification you can test L to N at 250V but reading must be over 1Mohms. That what your GN 3 says

Correct. Thanks for watching.

In the polarity test, Lets say you have 5 sockets in a radial circuit. Do you have to test the polarity on every socket or just the last socket? Also, If it's just the last socket then which switch do you have to flip to test polarity. Is it the switch of the socket you are testing polarity on (e.g. last switch) or can it be any single switch in the radial circuit (e.g. third switch)?
@learnelectrics4402
@learnelectrics4402 11 месяцев назад
I would test every socket. If you are using a socket adaptor, flick the switch on the front of the switch outlet.

Hi. If a ring circuit and a spur was taken from a socket, 1. Would the reading also be. example; 52ohms 2. If somebody has put a spur on spur, then what would the readings likely to be. Would this show a spur has been taken from a spur by mistake, not noticeable from the eye looking at the room. Regards
@learnelectrics4402

We should always test any electrical works that we do. Wall sockets can be radial circuits or ring circuits and we have videos on both these. Go to LearnElectrics.com and put your question keywords into the search box and you will get a list of all our videos that are relevant. Nearly 200 to choose from. Hope this helps. Dave.
