Testing a cold September day, I find my low power solar heat pump is only using 780w to heat my shed…
The heat pump on start up took 5 mins to change the internal settings and gradually raise temperature… going from 1 amp to 14 amps…
As far as I’m aware, if a solar panel system was to power this mini split, it would at least need 1300w or so to supply the power requirements…
On cooling it hardly uses that and consumes 650w or so…
On overcast days and situations of low solar generation... my current panel array only powers a couple of hundred watts or 1kw on bright days...
Currently, my setup is enough for my domestic needs and hydroponics system... but the majority of the time I find myself shutting off the hybrid inverter and batteries...
This is because of the constant drain of the hybrid inverter when there's no solar, roughly 300w...
Overnight would drain about 10% of the battery, add that to a day with little to no sun generation then 12kwh battery will need a top-up not matter if It's sunny or not...
To build a self-sustaining solar array and battery backup would require over supply of solar panels and possibly storage to carry on a few days of cloud cover roughly half a week, of which, usually, is the time a weather front passes over England...
This worsens over the winter period compared with tropical climates of which the sun period keeps their bright days...
My solar project is to basically find for myself the right balance of solar power and battery storage to use domestic cooking and hydroponics gardening with heat pump heating and carry on overnight... to recharge the next day...
I find it almost works with 1kw of solar during the summer mouths but definitely struggles in September... my goal now is possibly double the solar generation and report back at some later date...
Remember that shipping heat pumps is allowed but they do not carry refrigeration inside…
you are required to either get a air conditioner installer to supply the gas

Buy yourself the tools and equipment to do the work… R134a can be bought at Halfords but I don’t know much else on installing…
