I wonder how it stands up to handling, masking, and decal setting solutions? I found that using Molotow you need to reeeeeally flood it on. You might have sprayed it too thin.

You still haven’t airbrushed the GSW brushable chrome. You’ll be amazed.

The mistake you keep making with brushing chrome on is you DAB it on so it flows out into itself. You don't use strokes because it dries so fast that the strokes dry.

please do the zero paints test, i just bought a bunch of their paint but i have not tested it yet... could not find any review of their chrome!

maybe the paint does require some shaking in the bottle??

The most difficult chrome look to do is a shiny finish on the back side of transparent materials. So far I know of only two paint products that can do it. Spaz Stix Ultimate Mirror Chrome and Rustoleum Mirror Effect. Spaz Stix was developed for painting on the inside or outside of vacuum formed Lexan radio control car bodies. As long as the surface is smooth as glass you'll get a silver metallic surface that is as reflective as vapor deposited aluminum on glass. This Spaz Stix paint will also work on styrene and hard urethane resins. I use it to replicate the look of vapor deposited aluminum on the back side of urethane replicas of plastic car parts. The company makes black and white backer paints and a clear coat for use with Ultimate Mirror Chrome. Spaz Stix paints come in tiny spray cans or bottles for use with an airbrush. The price is $$$. The Rustoleum paint is a bit less shiny than the Spaz Stix and it is only for back side (second surface in mirror terms) application. The exposed paint surface looks like any "metallic" silver paint. I don't know how well or if it will work on Lexan but it works on hard urethane. It *does not work* on styrene. The carrier solvent attacks styrene. It was formulated for use on glass. Rustoleum also makes a "gold" version but it's nowhere near as shiny. It doesn't make a truly reflective "gold" mirror out of a piece of glass like the silver Rustoleum or the Spaz Stix will. These Rustoleum paints come in a larger spray can than the Spaz Stix paint, and cost less. All other "chrome" paints I've tried present a "silver metallic" look when viewed through a transparent material, the same no matter how chromelike the front surface of the paint film is. This should be a test of all "chrome", "silver", and "mirror" paints. Use a piece of glass, a piece of Lexan sheet, a piece of styrene sheet (a CD jewel case lid works great with Spaz Stix), and a transparent hard urethane test piece. Smooth-On Crystal Clear 202 is what I use, but to test the paint's "chrom-iness" the front and paint side surfaces have to be glass smooth.

Glad you do what you do...think I'll stick with alclad lol. Wow paint kit would be nice...lots of colors there.

can't wait for you the other chrome stuff. oh you defiantly need to go back and try molotow again apparently you can thin it out and it work better rather than strait to airbrush they have a video them-self. also it made me wonder if you ever tried sanding a before chrome painting like a high grit of 600-5000 so maybe it stick better and or maybe you can go heavier to smooth out cuz there grove the chrome can stick to now . nice work as always

All of the ultra realistic chrome paints are the same thing. They were developed for the special effects, art and automotive industry. It was developed in Germany and is usually sold by the gallon. Maltow put it a marker form for touch-up. It sells for $100/gallon retail. Unfortunately it lasts only 6 months in the bottle. There are ways to extend the life, this is one way, add alcohol but it loses the effect a bit.

How does green stuff world compare to the alclad chrome?

You still haven’t sprayed the Green Stuff world brushable chrome. Does the same as this stuff, but $5 a bottle.

@Barbatos Rex I seem to recall seeing a video you did recently where you thinned alcohol based chrome like GSW with 91% isopropyl but now I can’t seem to find the video.

I find it amusing that the world has embraced fentanyl as a drug of choice, but is trying to evolve hobby paint. They did awesome work transitioning off coke and opium. Left us with crayon mentality to paint an object. Lacquer works, why ruin a proven product?

Wouldn't be hard to beat alclad , it's not that great , it's not bad , but I'd say molotow is the benchmark for chrome paint .

I figured out the issue. You gotta use this stuff over either a black or white undercoat that has to be high gloss. High gloss paint works absolute best for gold and high gloss black works best for chrome. Otherwise you really are missing out so much with the paint. It will look literally like chrome on a brand new rim. You will see how crazy of a difference it makes.

I'm a car builder & I don't think I'll be buying it. It could be used on some parts instead of the 'toy' chrome on kits, or as 'Alloy', or as 'Brushed Chrome' and metals As for the price, I would just may as use something else.

The most Difficult Chrome to do arel exus wheels in Hyper silver. All this testing Thank you Alclad is king to me.

So it looks with the thinner, its drying and causing the splatters. You should try it with Mr color 400 thinner with the flow improver

s it possible that due to the air movement from your vent that your paint isn't flowing out as well as it might? I.e., drying too quickly?

Very nice but alsacorp paint is hands down the best chrome on the market...expensive but number one.

i problem ive had with chrome is protecting it with it goin hazey, so is alclad still the best in your opinion? with the aqua gloss for protection? i spoke to some on a GSW about it and they said the aqua gloss would protect their chome too, hoave to tested that?

Pretty much Molotow liquid chrome refill but less than half the price.

Also want to know how durable the driedfinish is. Does it rub off when touched? Does it go dull from being rubbed?

I sprayed solow cups an everything turned flat for some reason so you think it might be the spoon maybe spray something metal jus to see because of how shiny it was before it dried

Green Stuff World Chrome is still the champ!

Great information. I use SMS Hyperchrome. Have you tried it? It looks great over any surface. I sprayed it over bare plastic, primers, and paints. Great results. You apply it in very light dust coats. And then buff it to a high gloss shine.

This stuff sprays worse than Molotow. I’ve moved away from alcohol based chrome. GSW chrome is still the best imo and they have a brush-on that is amazing.

I hope you make a chrome paint for metal soon you applied and you can put clear coat on top right away and don’t change the chrome to silver

Great review. Thanks so much. I just picked up a box of AK Super Chrome. It cost me $22 in California which isn't too bad considered the price has gone up due to inflation. Have you tried Stuart Semple's Mirror paint? It's suppose to be one of the highest chrome paints in the market.
