Testing the AMS 2-inch x 12-inch Split Core Sampler 

A popular topic in agriculture and soil testing is soil carbon. Measuring soil carbon requires two crucial measurements: soil bulk density and total organic carbon (TOC). Soil samplers are interested in probes that can collect soil for bulk density measurement while collecting soil deep enough into the profile to reach one foot.
The probe featured here (AMS 2" x 12" Split Core Sampler; www.ams-sample...) allows samplers to do just that. The split core sampler is attached to a hitch-mounted hydraulic probe, using the large electric-hydraulic power unit (www.agvise.com...) with a two-stage, 42" hydraulic cylinder (www.agvise.com.... An in-cab mounted system is recommended (vs. hitch-mounted system featured here) as weight is more balanced, allowing users to take an even quicker 1 foot, 2" diameter soil core.
