Have used airlocker for 3 years. Love it. Turn up your pressure and use over a bucket of water. Higher pressure drives the nails right through and the water stops them. No messing about with a Hammer
There is a 'world of difference' between nice clean nails recently driven into a piece of two-by and the corroded stuff remaining after prying old 'pallet' boards apart
I have the Air Locker version. Looks to be a bit smaller than this one, but same concept. I was using it to remove 4" spikes from old growth 1" oak in my 120+ year old house. No problems. My mother-in-law saw it and took over. Again, no problems. Suggestion on bent nails is to bend them back as close to straight as possible. We suspended the boards over a 5 gallon bucket with crumbled paper in it. Kept ricochets to a minimum. Another use that I just found is as a nail set. I put a bunch of new door trim up before realizing I had the wrong setting on my 16ga air nailer. Heads left up about 1/8". Turn the pressure down to 40psi and it taps the nails to easily caulk over.
I use a half bucket of sand, straighten the nails as best you can, snap off and rusty tails. When you are done chuck a big magnet in shake the sand and it'll pick up the bits
Great review, thanks. I went with the Airlocker, it's much, much smaller and leaves a smaller indentation. Either one you go with, they're so useful and cheap, I feel like I ripped them off...such a time saver.
The air locker will also knock the nails all the way out of the wood. I've been knocking out screw thread nails since I bought the air locker, great tool.
Hi, I have had one of these tools for nearly one year now, I use 100% pallet wood and I have been using it all the time. I am very happy with the tool and I suggested it to you. I have not had any problems, nor have I broken any of the working bits. It has saved me many hours of frustration and turned a necessary job into a sinch.
I just use my air hammer with a chisel tip that I have ground to a slight recess and it works perfectly. Cost is very little if you go to HF and get the cheap air hammer.
I have the air locker and the plunger is smaller which leaves a smaller hole. Turn your pressure up and it will drive the nail further out or completely out.
Recommended operating pressure: 70-120 PSI. The small Porter Cable Air Compressor I have is 150 psi and 6 gals. Should be able to handle this perfectly. This was a great review, many thanks!! I like the full aluminum body on this tool.
Wow I never knew such a tool existed. lol all the hundreds of hours me my wife and kids have invested in pulling twisted and bent nails and ring shank nails from oak pallets. Im almost afraid if I dont buy one of these. And they find out first. Ya it may not be pleasant.
I have purchased a cheap one which I have modified to punch nail heads into old jarrah floors in order to sand said floor .it works a treat I just cot the end off the rod so it protrudes about 1/8 of an inch.it works a treat!
Oh, great idea for resetting the lifting nails in my deck, Neville! I almost had enough justification to buy one already and your suggestion's made all the difference: I'm going to buy one this week 🤗
So the nail head will not go through the wood so easily and so you will still need to pry out the nail but now without a head. I could be mistaken but I believe there's a tool that automatically pulls out the nail from the nail head. Could be just my wishful thinking.
Great video. I bought the Air Locker, but this does the same thing. I plan on using pallet lumber for my projects. I also bought a planer for using pallet lumber.
Have the air locker for 5 years an being able to replace plunger is nice have run 1000s of pallet nails oak an pine through it an replaced 1 plunger real work saver
Well done! I think, if you will press the nail gun fairly strong onto the board, the nails will be shot out. In the way you practice it, the nail gun is bouncing back and losing much energy.
Guess I must be the last guy on Earth to hear about this wonderful piece oftechnology, huh? Guess I'll have to buy one for each hand, in order to catch up with everyone else! Seriously though, great review, and lots of good insight in the comments. Liked, subscribed and many thanks.
Maybe a mod? Shorten the plunger by 3/16ths or so? Then it would stop flush or just before the end of the tube perhaps preventing that ugly divot... I dunno but I’m ordering one still under $50 that comes with a spare plunger that I may try to modify myself. That’s for the education on this, I’ve been wanting one for a while now and had only heard about it, pretty cool!✌🏼
I thought about that too, but it would prevent you removing those cut-off nails later in the video. A metal plate or removable tube extension like others have suggested would be the answer.
Have you tried using it to countersink existing nails into a hardwood floor? I’m thinking it’ll punch it in too far, or maybe there’ll be too much resistance going into the hardwood floor joists.
Have you tried it on pallets that have the spiral nails? Would it be possible to weld a collar extension so that the piston didn't penetrate the wood? Thx for the video.. very professional..
Will it remove toe or finger nails buy one for the wife cheaper than a manicure in all seriousness looks pretty good nails put in with airgun can be thin and bend just looking at them and too time consuming those who like the rustic look don't mind the old nail holes and brushing timber by putting nuts and bolts in a bag and belting timber so that when you stain it then it gives that weathered look
i seen this tool on some diy show today. never knew a air punch was a thing. it kinda blew my mind. am now shoping around for one bc i have no idea what a good brand would be.
A person w/ the tool needs to have a piece of metal that can be slipped around the nail so it can keep it from causing the divit. I love that tool. I do a lot pallets. That would be a life saver.
David Connor I made a metal plate with various holes in and put the nearest hole over the nail before using the gun The plate takes the impact and no damage is done to the wood 🙂👍
It's not really a "Nail Remover", but rather a "Nail pusher" because it doesn't pull nails - it only pushes them through. If the proper sized nail is used you won't see it on the opposite side, or it won't be sticking out. That doesn't work most of the time if you can't see the nails on the backside or can't get to the backside, so you end up having to chisel around the nail head and pull it out the traditional way. Not sure this helps me much at all. I've rarely ever been able to knock a nail from the pointy end, and when I do it's because I pulled it off whatever it was nailed to and then I can just use a hammer with one tap and then pull it from the other side. This tool would get very little use in my world.
Love that nail remover i just wish i could afford one now that i had to be put on disability for being stupid all of these years in construction over doing it, my lower back is messed up
you might as well save the money, still need a hammer. Make a pallet tool, they have them in youtube video....just a long bar with like a fork at the bottom with 2, it just sits under the pallete board and you pop it right off. goes real fast
Imagine if pallets were made with screws instead of nails = heaven #1 most hated thing I do in all of woodworking is removing nails...especially when some guy with a nail-gun blasted in 6 nails in the same spot when 1 would have been sufficient.
Seen another person use this as he got blisters using a punch and hammer. In his video he did it the old way and then with the gun. He actually did it quicker with the old punch and hammer! So he spent $50 to stop the blisters when he could of spent $5 on a pair of gloves 👍 every video I watch of this tool I just see a waste of money
If you already have a hammer to pull the nails from the front side, wouldn’t it be just as easy to use the hammer to drive the nails out from the bottom side? No compressor, no hose.....
This tool requires a air compressor. So good if you already have an air compressor. But if you don't already have an air compressor then this tool is useless.
So no matter what we still need the hammer or nail puller because this tool doesn’t remove as it’s advertised this tool should be called nail pusher 😂 it doesn’t work to remove a nail from a 4x4 lumber
It's not necessary, but it makes quick work of removing nails. We were using old fence pickets for the bottom of our deck, and using a nail remover, we got 2 dozen pickets nail free in under 2 minutes. That's nine nails per picket.
