Have you tried to also connect the J1772 to Tesla adapter on the other side of this adapter (meaning Tesla to Tesla as a whole setup) and test it out on a Tesla? Some of these aftermarket adapters have not programmed the adapters correctly and would not charge UNLESS the release lever is kept pressed. It is good test to perform. The official Tesla Universal wall connector that was released with Tesla to J1772 does work when a J1772 to Tesla adapter is connected to it and plugged back into Tesla! Please test if you can and let us know the result.

Thanks for the commercial on the J1772 plug. I think I can use that. Edited for spelling.

Holy cow, 70 cents per kwh? It had better be an emergency to use those destination chargers. OUCH! Having a collection of adapters seems like a good idea to have options in case chargers are down. Thanks for sharing. I will put it on my list of items to add to the collection.

I've been thinking about getting an adapter. In our two big road trips so far, we have not needed one. But it may come in handy in the future. I just came into some unexpected extra cash, so I'll use a little of it to give this a shot. Thanks for the tip and the discount. You pushed me over the edge and I ordered one.

The adapter arrived today. It took one week from China. I plan to test it out at a Tesla destination charger later this week if I can. Thanks for the tip and the discount. 👍

Let me know how it goes

It went perfectly! It wasn't quite as hot here as when you tested yours, but it was still over 90º. We were on our way to a graduation party so we didn't have a lot of time. But I let it run for 10 minutes. The adapter did not get as hot as the handle on the Tesla destination charger. It was simple plug and play. Thanks again for the lead and the discount.

Thanks for this review/commercial. It looks like it has the capability to put a small padlock in the tesla side latch. Is that true? Also, have you tried pulling on the Tesla cable when it's latched in(not plugged into the car of course). My EVDANCE adapter doesn’t securely latch the Tesla cable and doesn't have the ability to lock either.

All of your videos are very informative and helpful; and I appreciate you taking time to research, video, edit, and post them. Question: will this adapter be what will be needed to connect a Bolt to a Tesla Supercharger (not a Tesla Destination Charger) once Tesla opens their Network to non-Tesla vehicles? Thanks.

Not this adapter, it’s for level 2 charging. It’ll be something like it

$0.70/kWh is outrageous.

Agreed

Probably one of the reasons why Musk agreed to open superchargers to non-Teslas.

Destination chargers are owned and operated by the property owner... Unlike the Superchargers (Tesla's DC Fast Chargers) which are owned and operated on land leased by Tesla themselves. Tesla allows destination charger owners to set the cost per kWh to whatever they want. Some are free and some aren't like this one. Just because this destination charger is $0.70/kWh, that doesn't mean all destination chargers are. More often than not, I find destination chargers to be free (usually as long as you patroning which ever business put them in).

My big question is how many Tesla chargers are made available for non-Teslas?

Right now all destination chargers (level 2) are, quite a few Superchargers are in New York State and another one in Texas opened up just this week. I plan on filming a charging test at it tomorrow.

Great video. When I’ve used my evconn adapter at the the destination chargers, they automatically start. No need to use the app. They have all been free so far. Be safe out there. 2023 chevy bolt

@@SpinnerEV You have a Magic Dock in Texas? The last I heard, there were a handful in northern New York and a very few in California. I just looked and there's one in Ft. Worth. I didn't expect them to expand the Magic Dock coverage now that they have agreements with Ford, GM, and the others for using the SuC network next year. Cool!

First PlugShare check in was after 5pm local time on Wednesday, August 2. By 10:33pm the following day, Aug. 3, all chargers were reported down. As of this moment, they’re not back up, so I may have to delay the charge test. It looks like the whole station is down currently.
