Weren't the angles possible in vanilla Melee anyway? I know they are way easier with the mod, but in vanilla you could really tell wether your angle is right and is that tight angle or the straight one if you practice enough, it isn't as RNG as it seems to be. It just takes practice. (Or I am a master at doing my angles and my controller is perfect, which I really doubt)

A lot of getting the wrong idea about the controller angles. The point isn't necessarily being able to reach perfect angles but more about eliminating unintentional straight angles. Because you run the risk of getting too close to the "perfect" angle and stepping into the straight angle zone, you can't reliably use any angles close to the straight angles. Without the mod, people don't just lose the perfect angle but all of the near-perfect angles, too. When you want a near-perfect angle (but not a perfect angle), this mod makes it safe to try without risking killing yourself by touching the wide straight angle zone.

considering this mod mostly just fixes problems with the gc controller I'd say its a good idea

I think the perfect angles are dumb. They're just another angle. the thing the mod does with the deadzones are over the top imo. I hope the perfect angle mod is removed if it ends up being the norm. I think the shield drop and loading screen mods are perfect, though I prefer Magus's dashback mod over Hax's.

imo I think everything in this mod should stay and should be used as tournament standard except for Firefox / Firebird angles. Just gives more incentive for people to play an already overrepresented character. I like that it removes some aspects of the game that depend more on the players controller than the skill of the players themselves. People shell out hundreds of dollars for controllers to give them an edge in competition, which I see as not only unfair to the people who can't afford to do so, but also just a general waste of money. This makes additional spending unnecessary and pushes the metagame forward (if just a little). I think making this tournament standard (without the Firefox angles) would be a very good thing for the Melee community.

"the community should take it's time with a decision" -- the community never seems to make a decision and implement it on anything. That said, I agree, use it. Though take out Firefox angles, they're not even that hard to do in the first place.

If they remove perfect angles I don't see a reason not to implement it, I think that Hax is trying too hard to legalize B0XX that he will overstep his boundaries and mods like these will never be legalized

This is a really good unbiased opinion of the Hax mod and I really liked that.

It's very interesting to see a tool like this come into the scene. The mod makes everything much more consistent by giving you more access to options that usually depended on your controller. If Nintendo had made the GCC more consistent in build quality and structure, we may have been playing a very different melee. This mod doesn't change any content, so really the mod is just letting you see more of the game. Is it balanced? I dunno, but it does recall that memory of melee being a party game rather than the competitive game it is today. It'll be even more interesting seeing this kind of stuff in upcoming tourney.

I honestly liked the idea of the mod, because most top players and tournament goers now what to place out of game rules. With modding it can help the game be better and not be nerfed by 10 more added rules to follow, still keeping the game fun.

I think Leffen made a really good point here, where the DashBack and shield drop mods are fine, because they actually address issues of controller inconsistency. But the angle mod changes the input required to make that angle happen. a player going from modded to unmodded and back with the Dashback and shielddrop mods enabled will be playing the same game, just with additional consistency. But if a player gets good at Hax mod perfect angles, then goes to unmodded, theyre actually performing the incorrect input for that angle on the unmodded version, and will miss literally every time. That mod isnt about controller consistency, its about making the B0xx acceptable, cause the B0xx has perfect angles consistent.

For the people that think that perfect wavedash mods and perfect angle mods shouldn't be in it, I'd like to state that the point of this mod is to make those things more accessible. At this point in time, tournaments allow notched controllers that help to basically the same degree, so why can't we allow the mod? While I do understand why opposers may say it will "buff" spacie players or make certain characters better, everyone already can get notches if they spend extra money on a controller and wait for notchers like Typo or Kadano to do it for them. Overall, I think the mod should stay the same, and if not, notches should be banned, since they effectively do the same thing. NOTE: After typing this post I've realised that even with notches, perfect wavedashes are still extremely difficult. The removal of that from the mod makes the most sense.

I like how FasterMelee looked at it. Mods should increase consistency, not make things easier. Also, mods should be used only when warranted to allow everyone to be on the same ground, more or less "quality of life" mods. Supported Mods: *-Polling code fix* - The major contributor to dashback inconsistency and overall delayed inputs is bad polling. This mod fixes the issue where the thread controller inputs are run on and the thread the game is run on desync, causing delay in inputs. *-Shield drop mod (no added leniency, AKA shield dropping isn't easier)* - Hax's Mod v1.0 makes shield dropping somewhat easier when it fixes consistency. Shield dropping doesn't need to be easier, so a different mod is used that allows calibration without making it easier to shield drop. *-Dashback mod (created by Magus, not Hax)* - The polling mod fixes this mostly already, but for the sake of consistency, it's implemented. Magus's mod plays more to how Melee handles dashback. It also fixes an issue with Hax's code that makes you go into 2 frames of "turn" instead of 1, making it different from normal dash, where you have 1 frame of "walk". *-Neutral Spawn* - Allows players to start the game on even ground. Kinda a no-brainer if you ask me. Mods Not Warranted/Deemed Illegal: *-1.0 Cardinals* - I'd like to see a mod for this implemented eventually, but the one right now does seem flawed. You undergo an analog-to-digital conversion in the modified 1.0 range, which changes vanilla analog mechanics. It's already very hard to get a true 1.0 angle, because your y-axis must be EXACTLY 0, or it will be registered as 0.975. This is near impossible to do consistently. Also, there's no negative effect on competitive play if we don't implement this mod, which makes it unwarranted. The idea that "1.0 cardinals are better" is subjective, so we shouldn't make it legal just because we can. I agree that the B0XX's dash buttons should be set to 0.975. Even if you might consider that a disadvantage, the B0XX will have the advantage of (likely) optimal ergonomics as well as the option of using more fingers, so it already has it's own advantages. *-Dashback Out of Crouch* - It's easy enough to do already, since you have a 2-frame window. It also doesn't deal with controller disparities like the others. The mod also creates a 3-frame buffer, which isn't necessary. With the polling mod, there's no need for this change. *-Modified deadzones (perfect angles are easier to hit)* - Another analog-to-digital conversion as well as a skill ceiling-lowering mod. Also, even if it's hard, you can still do perfect wavedashes consistently. *-Shield drop mod (Hax mod v1.0)* - Again, it shouldn't be easier to shield drop, just more consistent. Is it still possible to do a non-full wavedash? Because it's important to be able to do that.

I think the mod should be legal without the angles mod, cuz it buffs spacies so much, and the perfect wavedash could be removed too but its really wathever. Dash fix are nice and the shielddrop its nice too (although i prefer the shielddrop as it is :v) P.S. I always love your music choices, i know the kirby one from gameboy advance and maplestory

My biggest problem with this is the accessibility. How do you get the mod? Is this going to be an issue with players having to either fork over cash for a memory card with modded data, or hoping their friend has one, or something?

At the very minimum, the loading time fix should be standard. One issue this mod brings up that I don’t think we’ve addressed much is the punish game. I’m for shield drops and reverse grab fixes being implemented. Being punished for missing a grab should be because you missed the grab, not because you didn’t do it on a frame that happened to not detect the turnaround. I think that was what caused the issue, right? Something to do with how the turnaround for the grab-back only being possible on every other frame or something? I actually like the wave dash fix because it will encourage new players to pick up the game more. I think The Firefox angle thing is stupid since it only helps the spacies and hurts the punish game against them too much. The spacies are highly technical characters and whiffing those angles should just be part of the risks you take when playing as them, but I could see going for those angles being an easy thing to read. Like if it’s consistent maybe players will be inclined to go for it too much. The only way to know for sure if this mod would be okay is if we just tried it in tournaments for a while.

I'm fine with it fixing dash backs, shield drops, and wave dashes. But the spacie up-b angles are a bit too much

No one seems to remember that the point of certain mods here is to not buff certain characters or change the game. Its to make the game cube controller more competitive with the B0XX. Dashback and shield drop should be kept for sure. But the perfect angles and perfect wavedash mods are to make Controller vs B0XX more similar in terms of if you have an advantage using one over the other.

About time tbh. Mods where it's not breaking the game even further but rather actually helping characters. Someone needs to ask MagicScrumpy for some help with Kirby.

I definitely think this should be the tournament standard. The dash back stuff and quick loading is really nice. But I do agree with alot of people that are saying that the fire fox angles should be removed. It seems a little op. Still a great idea and I hope it becomes normalized for tourneys.

Everyone keeps commenting about how the perfect angles buffs spacies too much, but it also helps the recovery of sheik, pika, and mewtwo. It probably helps spacies the most but still something to keep in mind.

OH YEAh!!!!!! HEWWW IS BACK BABIES!!!!.

This mod is all about fixing controller disparities, and not changing the game. There will always be people who get perfect angle notches and shield drop notches. This mod is making it so that all controllers can perform the same tech as consistently as all other controllers can. This way people don't have to spend money searching for controllers with good dashbacks and getting notches to make tech easier. This mod is a way to allow people to get into higher levels of Melee without having to drop potentially ridiculous amounts of money to makes sure their controller is as good as some of their competitors. I haven't seen nearly enough people talking about this positive aspect of the mod, and I would be willing to bet that it is something that many people in the Melee community have not thought about. If anyone has any thoughts on what I have said I am eager to hear them, as this could be an important turning point for the future of the game we all love, and all thoughts on the matter should be voiced and considered before the community comes to it's inevitably controversial decision on whether or not these mods should be used in tournament.
