it really is remarkable.

smoak888 this is one of the very first Gemini’s that was only “low light” - it didn’t have dual ISO/LL switch. We had to send it back in for a free upgrade once that capability became available.

raredreamfootage as per my other comment, raw provides you with all the color data hitting the sensor, instead of throwing it out while compressing the footage, like an A7Sii would. More efficient to use an A7Sii... certainly in terms of file size, yes. You may be able to get an even higher ISO looking cleaner than the Gemini with an A7S. Remember, though, this is a digital cinema camera, and Red makes cameras more suited to lit and controlled scenarios. The Gemini is a big help to doc filmmakers and the like though!

For the Gemini footage, we used this -> truecolor.us/news/red-to-alexa-lut-package/ For the b-roll, shot on an A6500, we used a film print emulation LUT included in Resolve, after having transformed the Slog2 gamma to a standard cineon curve using Resolve's color space transform OFX.

Do you find that LUT actually looks like Alexa? I'm considering getting it.

Ian Carberry you know, I’m not really sure - but I do know I really, really like the colours it gets me from a Red! Probably my favourite starting point for a grade at this point, and I’ve tried many things...

raredreamfootage yes, I could have graded it down to see more of the highlights. However, you can certainly clip a Red camera: raw is no protection against that. It depends how you expose, like any other camera. Reds do have a much higher dynamic range than any SLR’s I know of, so that should help though. The image quality of raw is much higher than any 8-bit SLR can give you, which is why you would choose it.

I appreciate the quick response. Movie for Netflix and I've never worked with Red before, but your video really captured some amazing images. I've only shot on the Arri Alexa Mini the last year or so and was thinking of making the switch for budget reasons. Some of the crew already have Red accessories. @@transpositionfilms

@@billyjick9627 Very cool. Alexa Mini does put out some great images. So many cameras these days will make beautiful pictures if there is skill and talent behind them!

this video is 4K. the 2160p option is available.

ok cool I think its safari thats not letting me see the 4k option. dope video would you consider this camera over the Epic W 8k, i currently have that camera

Art L.A. Yep - we have an Epic-W as well and we’d seriously consider upgrading if it’s the only one we had. Dual ISO and easier workflow/higher FPS at 5K usually trumps 8K for our kind of work.

This comment was addressed already. This was one of the first few Gemini’s that was low-light only.

@@ryanlschroeder If the camera was stuck for some reason in Low Light only mode then Gemini is not a great low light camera then...... As another commenter said, Noise amount looks very similar to Dragon at the same ISO values and thats not what RED claims. They claim a 2 stop improvement over dragon. I would say that the camera if anything, was stuck on STANDARD mode.

lol - this was 2018. The FX3 was released three years later, in 2021.

Completely agree..not digging the way it looks at higher ISO's at all.

Kyle Roberts good b camera for a Varicam

I'd rather use the EVA1 from what I've seen. The big Varicam is amazing for sure!

Kyle Roberts the Eva has the same issue as the Gemini. As the pixels go up the texture of the sensor becomes less organic looking and the size of the files also increase unnecessarily. 4k is the sweet spot. And yes the Varicam is a master camera.
