Try giving out free wifi at a Portland State football game. There: a. Might be enough people there with iPhones to run the test. b. might be a way to work with the computer science folks at the college to write a good procedure and get sponsorship from the school. Just an idea.

Hi, Chris! Do you have any inside info on the antenna configuration on the U6 Enterprise vs the U6 LR? My old UAP-Pro is finally starting to die and it's time to replace it. I'll most likely shuffle the UAP-AC-LR I've got in the main area of my house into the spot where the UAP-Pro is, and replace that one with a U6 model (preferably one with 6 GHz capabilities), but I'd like to have similar coverage to the UAP-AC-LR. Thank you!

My only complaint with the WiFi6LR access point is the 1Gig lan port. They really should be using 2.5G or higher for these. Of course, none of their competitors use them either. I just recently Aggregated my switch ports for Access Point to Main switch traffic.

Agree with this. The Enterprise adds 6E to the mix. Mind you, the 6E was not tested. In fact, the testing is showing sub 300Mbits in the tests on here and it should be in the Gigabits (he clearly showed the speeds in Megabits, not Megabytes)

An idea for load testing WiFi 6 could be to find a WiFi 6 USB adapter that supports multiple virtual interfaces and buy a few. Then for each adapter create a VM and on each vm create the number of client stations each adapter can virtually handle. Let’s say 4 adapters that support 4 virtual interfaces. That’s 4 vms with 4 clients each for a total of 16 clients. All of which could be running a script to browse and download files.

I can't wait till I get to try one and compare it against the HD and XG. Theoretically the XG supports 1500 clients but it becomes unusable way before you get there. Not to mention the extra radios cause you to eat up your channels a lot quicker.

There is nothing technically wrong with using 10-20 raspberry pi split across 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz channels with a scripted upload and concurrent download set of transfers, to a resource on a well equipped (e.g. 10Gbit connected server) to the AP at 2.5Gbit. A lot of people have newer phones now that are wifi 6 capable like the Iphone 11 and basically all the Samsung phones from the past two years. I would setup some laptops with video files on shares based on demographic groups (maybe age groups?) to spread out the load and then take the setup to a crowded pubic area with the SSID and QR codes on signs asking people to watch the videos for some sort of contest prizes. If you set it up right, you could probably get a couple hundred people on the wifi at once with many of them on wifi6.

I just uploaded a video speed testing mine and was seeing more than 1.3 gigabits on 6E. I don't get why yours was peaking at less than 400. It makes no sense with your setup being even better than mine. I'm using a USG-Aggregate with a transceiver to a PoE+ injector with a 2.5 gigabit port to my Access point... janky compared to your sweet switch. With this AP I can get >700/700 on AC and over 1gigabit on wifi 6. **edit.. oh I didnt catch the channel width used**

either a NAS w/10G nic (the nas has less chance of I/O bottleneck on accessing the files) or a server w/10G nic, just make sure the os is running on a raid0 or 10 configuration. Then, you will need to have that U6-Enterprise connected at 2.5Gbe (not 1gb on the UDMP), so maybe using a 10Gbe switch (like the one you have on your rack or the aggregation switch which is cheap). once you have this setup, gather 20 or more people with recent phones (manufactured in the last 1 or 2 years) that have wifi6 capability (e.g. iphone 11 or newer and samsungs) and have them run 5 thread download and upload iperfs on that server. This will generate the 5 simultaneous threads per device on wifi6, per phone, so 30 people will generate 150 threads on iperf. This is where the raid0 on the server is crucial and so is its 10G connection to the switch and 2.5g to the u6-enterprise

I agree. I can comfortably hit 600+ Mbps on the previous generation Flex-APs (AX, 80 MHz wide) when I have line of sight. His speed test is also showing 3ms latency which is astronomically high for a home network. My only guess is that perhaps the AP was installed some distance away from his test bench to replicate a real-world condition? Otherwise he has something misconfigured.

Test without breaking the bank? (and I assume staying in the unifi ecosystem too). You can fire up a bunch of mobile devices (I saw you had an iPhone, maybe a few more, maybe a couple ipads, etc) and load them with wifiman, make sure they are all on the same access point. Wifiman will pop-up allowing you to do a speedtest between devices if it's open on each device. You can run them at the same time. Only big downside is you're not going to see the traffic in Unifi Network application since it only shows traffic going in and out of the WAN (one of my biggest Pet Peeve's about the unifi network software - I have some internal servers that do 50GB/day but since they don't hit the public internet they don't even show up as devices on the client devices list)

That was an awesome contest you did and it was fun to watch! Would have been great to be there for it. One thing really bothers me though. I have a 4 year old ASUS RT-AX88U router and it consistently gets over 630Mbps on my iPhone using the Speedtest app going over my 1GbE internet connection. How could your speed be around 350Mbps. That is pretty awful. Theoretically you should be getting around 1.2Gbps. I'm not judging BTW, but I was considering "upgrading" to the U6 Enterprise since I have a UDM SE and would love to see more details on the network., but I can't since I have a third party access point. (in bridge mode) But I'm not going to if that means somehow my devices will connect much slower. (I was expecting faster speeds not slower! LoL) EDIT: I just checked with a colleague which has one of these and he confirmed you should easily get over 750Mbps connected to 5G and over 1.3Gbps connected to 6G... so what could be wrong with your setup? Sorry, I"m just baffled a bit at the slow speeds from your devices.

I have same router. Testing with my QNAP NAS connected with 2x1Gbps link (aggregated) and Lenovo L14 laptop i was able to get roughly 190MB/s (Mega BYTES), so way over 1Gbps. That's of course with very few devices connected to router and 160MHz channels on 5GHz, and with laptop close to the router. Ideal situation, just for a test. But in daily usage i get close to 1Gbps of real throughput on the same laptop. So yeah, 350Mbps on WiFi6 is really bad. I assume it's with 40MHz channels, which is default in Unifi as far as i know.

You can't use it with a single laptop and a 1gbp switch. so many bottlenecks. You need a 10gbp switch and all clients copy a different file from a 10gbp source. source must be NVME. the setup shouldn't be too expensive.

Perhaps I am missing something here.

The maximum speeds you are claiming to get are really not that great. Your speeds are sub 300mbps This is the speed of WiFi 4 and WiFi 5 devices. Your testing is very flawed and you are not doing justice to the U6 Enterprise when the speeds should by measured in the Gigabits, not sup 300 Megabits. This is an extremely poor representation of this product. How many of your clients were using the 6GHz WiFi band that WiFi 6E uses? This video should be taken for what it is. A complete and utter waste of time and RU-vid space

I think you should use PC or server with Windows Server OS instead of laptop with Windows desktop version for file server (with more than one NIC is better), and to "reduce bottle neck" on file access, it is better to copy the file into several file (same with number of user), so each user will download specific file. This may not be perfect test, but at least reduce some constrain, like Windows desktop limitation, and file access limitation. Hope it can help.

With prof of stake mining coming out in September, motherboards with a sea of 1x PCIe slots should hit rock bottom soon. Populate them with cheap WiFi6e adapters that support VMs. Edit: Riser cables may be needed. Second Edit: You're not testing BT functionality so a bare M.2 WiFi card in a basic 1x PCIe to M.2 adapter should work, no riser needed.
