Dang cody, how about a East Coast trigger warning, I had to clean my coffee off the monitor once I stopped laughing. That was great, but seriously us East Coast men wouldn't have any trouble swinging our hand that close to the wood, just hold my beer and watch this.
Another Austrian checking in - I would also roughly translate it as "sure hit". Seems to be more of a novelty/designer thing. Regarding the humor, don't confuse us with our German neighbors ;)
Sequoia gigantea in Maine? What you call trees we call saplings. We also have mountains. Big ones to dwarf your molehills.Paul Bunyan was from Oregon you know. And when was there ever a Mountain Man Rendezvous in Maine, of all places? You Mainers couldn't even handle the altitude, much less the terrain, flora and fauna. Friends of mine from Maine lasted three years out here, wimped out, and limped back to Maine. Couldn't hack it.

I regret not getting my dad into games. I think he would have loved to watch me play something like Red Dead. He was a huge western fan, was actually a ranch hand and did cattle runs in his teens. He taught me a lot. Running chainsaws, forest health, fire mitigation. He gave me the skills to go into a profession where I feel good about what i do. My biggest regret was a lack of shared interests that stemmed from my hobbies. He always supported them though. Hell I had to pick up sticks for video games if it wasn't my birthday or Christmas. But he would always be ready to go with me to pick out my payment. Cody's doing an amazing thing here. I hope they have fun.
The meaning of life is our relationship with God. These four steps are the key to getting a Divine Revelation directly from him. They are something you'd eventually do if you took God seriously enough to read the Bible, while implementing its teachings. They are, forgive your parents, break down before Jesus, ask for forgiveness, and read three books of the Bible. Step four requires the first book of each testament, and one you chose yourself. The order is actually important. The steps build on each other. Each one primes your soul for the next. To be forgiven we must forgive. Mathew 6: 14-15. That's why forgiving others has to come before asking for forgiveness. Jesus will not forgive you until you've at least done the bare minimum, our parents. They're supposed to be easiest to forgive, because they've fed, housed, loved us to some degree. Our problems with them are supposed to represent our problems with God. This is why the bare minimum to receive the revelation is our parents. You'll still have to forgive everyone though, but that comes much easier after meeting God. There's extraordinarlly important information we all desperately need in this revelation, but those who get it are forbidden to share it. The Truth that Jesus Christ is Lord is written on every human heart. We all have that knowledge inside us, but we bury it under mountains of pain and anger. Those steps clear away that garbage inside you, letting God heal you, so that his words boom clearly inside your soul. The entire point of our existence here is to Trust God enough that we pay him this mustard seed of Faith, so his Grace can remove the stain sin has left on our souls. Everyone that does not get this Grace is not forgiven of any of their sins, even if they turned around and we're the best person from 25 to death. Without Grace those first sins are still counted against you, tying you to the devil's punishment. It's not about being a good person, It's about being forgiven for when you weren't. The Bible is Truth. Please do those steps and see for yourself. Please take your salvation seriously
@@jamesmayle4712 why did you do this when no one was talking about God? It doesn't feel like you were trying to be part of a discussion, but to lecture people to believe what you want to believe. Anyway, yeah I wish I did more stuff with my dad when I was younger, but now I'm trying to make up for it now as an adult.
It's not that it's NOT for outdoor use, it is that IS viable for indoor use: Like next to your furnace in the basement, when you don't have a lot of swinging room. :)
West coast guy: "this is heavy! What is it 3 lbs?" All in good fun. Put that up against that drill attachment you raced your son with a little while back

@@jamesmayle4712 I don’t know exactly why you sent that reply to me for my joke. I agree with you keep the commands Yeshua will love you, the father will love you, and they will make their abode inside of you and change you from the inside out. Let us not be the stumbling block to others.
Hey Cody I just wanted to say that I can really appreciate you deciding to try out some video games with your son. Sometimes new things can seem weird or uninteresting, but when you do them with the people you love, family and friends, it can make a real difference. Especially when the other people see you're making a real effort to get closer and spend more quality time with them!
This man made me shed a tear, he’s a fantastic dad! Taking up his own sons interests to build that bond! You’re a fantastic man Wranglerstar! Makes me happy to see such a wholesome family
Not only would that make the already comparatively heavy headed axe even heavier, you couldn't replace the guard if it breaks over years of wear. That plexiglass can be screwed on and off so that it can be serviced and replaced.
“I can see why this isn’t for east coast guys, this requires a lot of hand strength.” Proceeds to explain how he normally “doesn’t split dense limbs” lmao keep up the good videos
As a younger man who was raised by two extremely hardworking parents (as well as other family members) i think that you getting involved in your sons interest, no matter what they are, is a fantastic thing and he's extremely lucky to have such a fantastic parent(s) to do something that most of us never get the chamce to have. You're a fantastic parent and hopefully that will continue in the family!
"What did we learn here? Boy that fire's getting hot" How can you have reached your age having only just learned that fire gets hot, haha! Only joking! Great vid bud, that thing is gnarly!
seen an east coast man use one of these once and he blasted it thru the piece of firewood and put a small crater in the shop floor , that is why they banned us east coasters from using this tool 😊
Love to know how much pm2.5 is in that shop from the fire i had a yurt once and got rid of it once we realised how bad for your health burning wood is and replaced with gas
My great grandpa was from Austria and he left right before WW2 and fought in a submarine for USA. I always thought he left because of war but he did have a sense of humor so he definitely left to meet people with a sense of humor
You're right, that little gadget is definitely not for us EC guys; I'll take my Estwing hatchet any day! XD First time you nail a log the wrong way, you've got a hand impaled with plexiglass shards. Hard pass.
Yea, he says Plexiglass (brandname for acrylic), but it's probably made from Polycarbonate (Lexan is a common brandname). Plexiglas is more scratch-resistant, but shatters. Lexan scratches easily, but is very tough.
@@foogoid8682 ah, thanks for the clarification, man - polycarbonate would make way more sense. Personally, I don't trust any transparent material as a surface designed to take repeated strikes unless it's something that's clear by necessity. XD Rather that guard was made of steel or aluminum.
That's really cool of you to do something completely out of your comfort zone just to spend time with your children. Things like that are what defines a good parent.
I realize this is an older video, but man I'm really glad to hear a dad that doesn't play video games taking an interest in his son's hobby. Playing video games growing up has brought me some life long friends that I never would have met otherwise.
I was watching your channel for a while now. And at end of that particular video i realized, that i realy need to express how i like and share many of your views and opinions. I also think, that tools and items we use in day do day lives should be built to last, if you do something - put thought to it and do it as best you can and also if something needs to be done, do it, even if you have to learn new skills or go out of comfort zone or whatever effort it takes. The thing in this video is not what you said about parenting, but you showed and i think its great, you got out comfort zone and putting in effort to be close with your son and share his life with him. Wonderful! Wish you all the best from Poland :)
You're a good man Wranglerstar and I look up to you as a role model. I'm a 36 year old carpenter with a new family and I just want you to know that you set a good example for me. I appreciate all you do. Thanks! Long time subscriber btw. Very proud of your accomplishments especially becoming sober. Good for you and God bless you and your family
Short handled axe looks perfect of Otis. Lex Luthor : " Would you like to see a long - long arm Otis !? " ( Superman I movie - programming ICBM scene )
What you got there is an old style English Bodger's axe for making chairs, wooden rake etc, it's an old countryside tool for working green wood. Hope that's some help
What's supposed to be the point of the Triffix? Why the stubby handle? It goes against everything that makes hatchets, axes and hammers work - the greater the length of the shaft handle, the easier the work should be - within reason of course.
But if you ask "does it have a market?" the answer is "Yes". People who has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on a cabin up in the alps (or wherever it is) and has plenty of money to spare from their job in the city, but is a complete noob when it comes to making kindling. They buy their firewood, that's not really a problem to them. But how do you succeed in making a cozy fire in your cabin if you can't cut kindling? It's a small market but if you're in the market of hand forged axes that may be the niche you need.
I believe it is made for when you are sitting directly in front of your woodstove, and need to turn some split logs into Quick kindling on the spot or on the Fly... the concept of a tiny handle for indoor use is not a bad one... But the price is a bit extreme. That being said, it was definitely beautifully-crafted and I could not make it any cheaper if I was making my typical hourly wage
@@anhatur & @lost paper I understand what both of you are saying, and I'm sure that it will sell to a particular market given that it's an interesting design and apparently well made. However, it has always been my understanding that the handle/shaft acts as a force multiplier, and that the axe/hatchet head will be most efficient within a certain range of lengths - too long or too short and it becomes inefficient. If more control is required it's always possible to 'choke up' on the shaft, shortening the overall length, but with this thing you're very much restricted to use it in a specific way, which seems somewhat pointless. Perhaps I'm being too closed-minded and it's not aimed at me - I'm not spending $160 on a hatchet/splitter, though I might if I was for more financially solvent. Anyway, thank you both for your interesting perspectives on the Triffix. Take care ✌️
@@ianmacfarlane1241 leverage is only half of it, weight is the other half. a 20ft long pole with a steak knife on the end of it won't split kindling either. i get what you're saying here and working men are often utilitarian in the way they approach things, tools doubly so...but as someone else said, if you got all of the money in the world it wouldn't be a bad idea to have something like this next to the fireplace since it is small and takes up little room....i'm with you though, i'd rather just have a proper splitting hatchet....and i do....a 4lb head i put on a short pine handle i cut out...only cost me $5 for the yard sale head and my time for the handle...which is time i enjoy spending.
Hey mate. I hope you see this comment I don’t have a you tube channel I just watch it. But I’m in the logging game and I work on the bush fires putting fire breaks in on graders and dozers When the fire season is on. The timber’s a lot harder to cut in Australia and the Australian bush is dangerous but the worst things that could hurt you bad or kill you. and that could be a lack of water, a snake or a spider bite or the obvious one a tree can fall on you. I thought I’d tell you a bit about the Australian bush. And I’f you lived over here you wouldn’t think much of the deadly animals over here it seems normal to me. I thought you’d like to know about the Australian bush and thanks for your videos they are great and if you see this comment which I hope you do can you read it out or at least say on one of your videos that you got my comment. My names Jimbo Grigor I’m only 13 but I think I’ve got about as much experience as a 20 year old and Thanks again for your videos they are really good to watch.
The passion you have for outdoors stuff and axes and what not is how I am with gaming. It makes me happy to hear you attempting to take an interest in gaming with your kid and your perspective on. This vid hasn't been too long ago, hope that's been going well
Coming from Austria, I can assure you, that every single sentence is meant sarcastically. You confuse us with our slightly derided neighbors, the Germans there. Furthermore ''Triffix'' can be translated to ''hit for sure''. Greetings from the Land that has born the Governator.
Eric WW2 (as well as ww1 btw) didn't really happen just because two nations ''wanted'' to unify (ofc there were a lot of people that wanted them, but there were a lot that weren't attracted to AH and his political ''ideas'', at least in Austria) though, did it, that is a pretty bold claim. But that is not my point, I just wanted to make sure, that we don't want to be confused with our neighbors, geographically and mentally, and wrote that in a sarcastic and satiric manner ;) anyway, wish you the best of luck with brexit and I hope we can still come visit you englishers ;)
I've found the safest method is 5 pound maul and 5 pound wedge. Up here at 50 degrees north in Newfoundland, it's nice to split 12 inch rounds indoor while sitting down.
What an awesome DAD you are!! Im 36 years old. I don't play video games and haven't for YEARS but I think it is really really awesome for you to be spending that time with your boy!!
@@edi9892 Even the best humor has a breaking point. Like if people from the Balkan are acting out of line, or if your paintings don't get the art worlds approval you think they should. That's when Austrians can get a little grumpy.
So think about doing a geography lesson with a whiteboard map! I have a California heritage, but live outside Atlanta so I am very confused about where I stand being hours from any coast. It occurs to me that folks in the middle of the country REALLY don’t know where they stand with things. Maybe the no coast hat you wore the other day solves that...So you clearing up these matters would be great fun.
"We don't have fast enough internet to twitch" hahah jokes aside. That is awesome. I have a 1 1/2 year old son and have been binging your videos and memory banking the things you do as a dad. Keep up the great work!
Cody. I always hear you talk about your slow satellite internet. I too had the same problem where I live until I found a fixed wireless internet provider. You would not be disappointed if you looked into this and found a provider. Thanks for the great videos.
You’re such a great dad, I know I see a ton of stereotypical parents be like “I don’t do this, so neither do you” but kids do stuff we don’t do all the time. I rather keep it reasonable then take it away or hide it. My dad got me a ps1 when I was a kid and we played together all the time, he got me into video games and I still love them and he still understands why. Maybe I’ll get him into it again, last year year he would never touched youtube with a ten foot pole but now he watching it over cable tv.
Ah yes, it's a struggle for survival in Australia. If the spiders don't get you, the snakes will with backup from white pointers and crocs. Even those cute little blue-ring octopuses don't have your best interests at heart. Try getting a seat in front of the box now, no chance, koalas have the remote, the drinks and going on about fires. Happy New Year.
It doesn’t entirely surprise me, being the sort of guy you are, but I can really appreciate you trying to get involved into Jack’s gaming, and I’m sure he appreciates it a lot more. Like a lot of things, in moderation video gaming is a great hobby. A lot of effort is put into developing games (most of the time, anyway) and a lot of skill is needed to properly play them. Also that axe is pretty nifty, but I sure as heck couldn’t justify spending what would probably be way over $200 in Aussie currency...
I wont be able to handle that thing, I am female after all, lol.Cody, i play online /games with my son since he was 3 years old. I picked educational games at first, but then they became predictable, then we played simulation games, he is a far better driver and pilot than I am... then moved to online gaming and we played a war game together for 7 years ,after the end game, he moved to first shooter, and i chose another war game. Its the best connection I ever had with him , we discuss so much through our gaming, of course the gaming also develop strategical thinking, planning etc. He is now 26 and we have such a strong bond. We know the other's reasoning and it helps us in so many ways. When I had my stroke and was out of action for a while - could not speak at first, he knew my schedule, pass codes, stepped in and on 19 took over my household like a pro. All because of our communication and bond that grew through gaming
You know hearing your outro is refreshing I like the fact that you’re genuine, so many youtubers have a extremely fake personality in their videos (overly dramatic) you end your video with a very deep personal message God bless you and yours
The design is pretty much around the ability to "pull" down on the wood, especially after digging into a long, and just hammering it on the ground or where your splitting to send the axe head through. The usual right angled handle doesn't quite let you do that. Relying more on your wrists ability to stay, and not bend.
I really respect what you are doing with Jack. I am a young man and I have a brother that loves computer games too. I always loved the outdoors though, same as my dad and we have a very good relationship because of this. My dad never understood my brother and is love-obsession of gaming and has taken many years to be able to understand and speck and billed a relationship with my brother. We are both much older now and I know my dad regrets not trying to connect with my brother when he was younger. I hope the men and women that watch your content listen to you and try and understand what there sons and daughters do and love to do. love the content have watched for many years and you are just getting better over time. thank you for reading.
Man the last part discussing your son and his intrests earned a lot of my respect. Ill subscribe because of your solid character. A man with this character will always give truthfull reviews.
It's good to find another person that appreciates craftsmanship, utility, and the work that went into a "built by hand" device rather than it's aesthetic value and cost (although the cost factor out-ways the utility in this case). Also, your wood burning shop furnace is of interest to me because when I moved into my place here in the Ozarks, I inherited one just like yours when I bought my homestead. Mine is old and kinda rusted but I have been thinking of putting it back into service because in the winter in my 22,000 sq. ft. shop the temperature drops down to 20 degrees Fahrenheit which is much too cold to be working in with frozen fingers. I was wondering if you had any tips or insight for me when I do this or if I should do it at all. Does this furnace throw out enough heat to heat a large shop like mine? p.s. I love the way you stack your firewood. I assume that you heat your house and all out buildings with that much firewood.
I can make that from stuff i have in the garage. I even have acrylic cut offs. Im thinking 2 hours on the Grinder. 2 hours making the handle and 3-5 hours hand sanding and shaping acrylic. If i do 20$ a hour and not factor any cost. Min it costs me 140$ to make. Also be careful my uncle started playing games because his son loved them now he plays even when the kids at his moms.
I have scrap metal for the handle, a used axe head, some plastic pipe, and some decent wood for the scales so could easily make one in a couple hours with a $0 cost for materials.
Glad to hear that you respect Jack's interests. I'd wondered about that, since in some ways you remind me of the elders in my own family who have adamantly been opposed to or disappointed in my interests my whole life because they are not the same as their own. You're a good dad.
The east coast version does not include the California implemented safety shield for the hand. Many east coast guys just karate chop the wood to split it. No axe needed at all.
you're a polarizing guy but I gotta say: big props for getting involved with your boys gaming hobby. I can see a lot of guys similar to you shunning the activity or even outright banning it but you're trying to get into it with him and thats really cool :)
I was loving the design, for one purpose, to cut the inside angles of plaster (to cut through the metal screen), it would be perfect for that, until you said the price, I was hoping $15 - $30. Edited to add, good for you, video gaming with your kid. My parents decided to do that, and we made a family deal of it once a week, heck, my mom ended up loving video games more than I did. My grandma even got into the action when she came to visit us for a month at a time. I ended up gifting her a computer to play a video game she fell in love with. I still have fond memories of my friends coming over once a week, to join in the fun I was having with my parents as we had a Tekken competition, ahahah.
