Testing Twinmotion MIRROR SETTINGS from Twinmotion's Mirror Tutorial - How do they look?

In today’s video, we’re going to talk about how to create a mirror that actually reflects lighting inside of our Twinmotion renderings!
This is based on a video Twinmotion put out about a week ago, which I will link to in the notes down below, but I wanted to test out the features for myself and see how they work!

Two ways to add a mirror - add a mirror object, or a mirror material.
One of the things they noted in their video is that in Twinmotion, anything behind the camera is not calculated.
So…if we export an image right now, we get…nothing.
If we rotate our camera, note that anything inside our camera view is now calculated in the reflection. It’s actually kind of an interesting result.
This is why adding reflection probes is important. Basically what it does is it creates a box inside of which your rendering program is going to calculate your light bounces.
Note - go into your preferences and set your export resolution to the highest setting to get clearer reflection images. Leave the viewport resolution lower to maintain performance

Hi everyone! Let me know if you've tried the mirror features in Twinmotion in the comments below!

Thank you thank you THANK YOU!!!!! I was going mental trying to figure out why I was getting a dual "blurry" reflection as well as the proper mirrored reflection using the reflection probe and when you mentioned the SSR setting, that fixed it!!!! Thank you SO MUCH!! This is why I love your videos, you have that little snippet that actually makes the difference!!! 💖💖💖💖💖💖

Well Justin... U r doing awesome as usual. It would be great if u could do a video on some small interior render in TM 2020 which I've been trying to do and can't get satisfied results.

Hi Justin, I'm really glad you did this video. I've been sticking with TM2019 for interior design project renders. TM 2020 appears to be all about exterior landscaping..... Either way, I watched the TM Video on mirrors and reflection probes as I was curious why I was not achieving a sharp reflection. Maybe I need to jump into TM 2020 once again in order to use SSR. Thank you once again, awesome video!

Lol - I didn't realize until I was making the video about changing the resolution of the reflections. Makes a HUGE difference :) I don't think you need to jump to 2020 though just for that

@@TheRenderingEssentials Oh that's another thing I meant to point out, as you mentioned 'changing the resolution', I will pay attention to this detail using your recommendations! I searched for SSR in TM2019 last week however, I couldn't find it; I'll check again later. Thanks once again!! :)

@@TheRenderingEssentials Hi Justin, Just a heads up regarding this video. TM 2019 doesn't have the SSR option like 2020. I've changed the preferences inside 2019 not sure how sharp it will look minus SSR; I could of course I jump over to TM 2020 when dealing with mirror reflections.

usual problems in twinmotion wat i face are following 1.reflections 2.too much dark shadows 3.unrealistic exports, if compared with vray 4.sometimes software gets closed suddenly and ur works gets drained, need to do all work again, 5. sometimes images get blink, seems overlapping problem. but still happy with work flow and less settings to acheiv more

1. This tutorial answers 2. You need to make sure 'Global Illumination' is on and also check that your settings are set to 'Ultra' under 'preferences'. 3. Making sure your settings are on 'Ultra' will help, remember that Twinmotion is aimed at speed whereas V-Ray is aimed at realism. (If you want to be an architect, I would argue that Twinmotion is better for you because it gives you more time to weak and design whereas if you want to be a renderer you will only use Twinmotion for video productions- however at university level V-Ray is probably going to be expected) Also the latest version of Twinmotion has a ray-tracing (or something similar) setting that looks amazing although I haven't used it yet. 4. Yeah you have to save often, also make sure you work in 'Low' quality that way your computer will have less work to do, then render in 'Ultra' (well, you'll have to jump between them while working). 5. If I understand what you mean by 'blink' it happens when two surfaces are on top of each other ie 0mm separation between surfaces or sometimes when they are too close. There is a learning curve with Twinmotion, it seems to me that there are a lot of tricks you need to know to get it to work for you but once you have that you'll be flying. Bit help is the 'replace objects' function, that way you can model everything in and simply replace in Twinmotion. There is also constant updates so keeping up to date is key :)

the remedy you made is good for image rendering but it seems that the motion of one character on mirror is not synchronizing at real time?? any suggestion will be grateful, tks.

I actually don't really understand where they want to go with twin motion. I've tried it multiple times after they bring out new updates. But i can't seem to find te benefit over just using Unreal engine. Okey, it's easier to use. But the quality is far behind Lumion or enscape. And ofcourse way far behind the full unreal engine. And now with datasmith and a lot of build in plugins Unreal engine is the way to go i.m.o. I can put a sketchup model in ue4 in no time. Bake the lighting with good quality in a few hours. And then it's as easy to use as any other real time rendering software. Just adjust the material assets that were created during the datasmith export. Throw in some reflection probes (and even planar reflection that er 100% accurate.) And the results is so much better then any other software. And it's proper realtime. If you model your assets correctly you get the full 60fps gaming experience with accurate lighting and GI. And then also animation renders are so stupidly fast, that every hour spent more in unreal pay's back in render times for creating your full animation. Check out my latest video if you'd like. all scenes were 10 to 20 seconds in 60fps 4k. Rendered in a few minutes each haha. Still enjoy your videos btw. Keep recommending you for people who search good sketchup/render tutorials. Keep it up!

Mostly just that Unreal Engine is really complicated and hard for beginners to learn, and it requires an understanding of 3D programs that goes beyond what most architects and people wanting to do visualization have. Twinmotion is designed to make the rendering process more accessible, but if you know how to use Unreal Engine, there's really no point because it's basically an accessible skin of Unreal Engine for 3D visualization. Thanks! :)

After using Artlantis and Lumion, I have to say Twinmotion has THE worst reflections. Literally unusable when you are designing small spaces with proportionaly big mirrors like bathrooms, such a shame.
