Hi, thanks for the videos. Very educational. I picked up the dl469 via your link. It doesn't seem to be able to test capacitance. The options for the 469 and 479 seem a bit different. Am I missing something? No biggie if it can't
@acservicetechchannel
@acservicetechchannel 6 лет назад
I didn't notice that the DL469 does not do capacitance as well as temp. I apologize that I didn't mention that too in the video since I wasn't using the DL469, thanks and I will take the link for the DL469 off newer videos since capacitance is pretty important, thank you Daniel!

Believe the 300 series (DL369) did Capps but was left off the DL469. Also no magnetic mount which is pretty handy. For the $10-$20 its worth the DL479

acservicetech I’ve been using the Fluke 116 Hvac kit that comes with the fluke clamp meter for a while now and I have decided to build a troubleshooting tool bag and this meter looks to be a good size for that. I’ve had trouble with my feet and knees and I’m just tired of toting a 45+ lb tool bag around. Great video this is just what I was looking for !

I just recently purchased a UEI DL479 for $84.00 brand new d from a local HVAC supplier on sale. This meter works great and I also purchased a adapter so I can use my clamp temp probe which is has a "K" type connector. The adapter cost less then $10.00 from True Tech Tools. Great video Thanks.

such a great channel in every way. I was wondering, can any of those meters be used to measure amp draw on a DC circuit, for example amp draw coming from a car battery? (between 50 and 100 amps)

The DL469 does not do capacitance or temp so it may be worth it to stick with the DL479, thanks

Do you appreciate the DL479? I have acquired this model along with my DL379B. Would you stand by this model(479)? I personally have some issues with it. My confidence in this meters durability is rocky. Longevity with working out in the field.

Wow. Good to hear. My college teacher, who has been in the business 30 plus years favors the uei. He told us how he forgot it outside and it got completely frozen overnight in 30 below weather during rain. He took it apart and let it dry couple weeks. Then he put it together and it worked. IM BUYING ONE, WHICH ONE DO YOU CURRENTLY USE AND WOULD RECCOMEND I BUY?

This is the best bang for the buck. Here is the Link for the UEI DL479 Multimeter with temp sensor- amzn.to/2jtsUbJ -- I believe that this is the best price around. I use this DL479 and also the dl389.

I'm going to buy a UEI clampmeter. Which do you prefer the DL479 or the DL389? I can get the 479 cheaper, but if the 389 is a better meter I'm willing to pay more for it.

I have a fieldpiece LT17A multimeter, when in Ohms position, when putting leads together I read 0.4 instead of 0.0. Is this normal.
@acservicetechchannel
@acservicetechchannel 6 лет назад
No it is not. I would try purchasing new test leads/probes. That is normal wear and tear over time. They need to be replaced,t hanks Steve!
@stevehayton746

I just bought new leads. What else would you suggest?
@acservicetechchannel
@acservicetechchannel 6 лет назад
Unfortunately there really is nothing else to check unless you wanted to take the multimeter apart and check from the connections from the probe tabs to the board inside for a good connection. I am sorry to hear that it is still not 0.0 ohms!
@acservicetechchannel
@acservicetechchannel 6 лет назад
The resistance reading on the probes should be 0.0 or maybe at worst 0.1 ohms thanks

I had the meter in the middle,379, after 2 years something tore up with my amp clamp. Ex. On a 10kw heater, the amperage would give various jumping readings like 22A, then 16A, and until I got the wire positioned just right in the clamp it would give me the correct reading of 40A. Not sure what happened to it

Shorting cap for safety, if you don't short it out will the reading be off? Thanks.
@acservicetechchannel
@acservicetechchannel 6 лет назад
Hey James, if a psc motor such as a compressor or blower is good and the unit turns off then it will drain the cap of most of its voltage. If the capacitor is a start cap that is taken out of the circuit before the unit turns off then it still has all of it's voltage and needs to be shorted for safety and for the reading. If a psc cap is connected to a bad compressor or a bad psc blower then it has its full charge still and needs to get shorted for safety and for the reading, thanks James!

I have that meter and a 61-342 (Ideal) meter which does the same but is a box meter but purchased the the D-m 515 box meter from U-E-I to back up the D-L479 as well. I want them 2 do all my testing electrical and H-V-A-C-R stuff as well. I have both brands Ideal and this 1 cause those r what I can afford! fluke and field piece, amprobe, flair r pricey. I own a couple green-lee and 1 Extech, 2 clamp sperry's (non temp). 1 is ac current the other reads ac-dc current as well as voltage 4 my sperry's. I have 2 kliens h-v-a-c-r's 1 clamp 1 box. I have craftsman, radio shack's, a ryobi non temp box, a h-depot commercial electric brand (box type), a general box type with blue tooth, and as back up 4 the Ideal(61-342) is 61-340. I have some in my tinkering shop on the bench, some in kits and depends what kit I grab and use.

Do you use temp clamps? Also do you prefer this meter with temp reading or the uei without it? Thanks
@acservicetechchannel
@acservicetechchannel 6 лет назад
I prefer the one with the temp sensor as it is typically 10 or 15 dollars more. I definitely use the bead type more than the clamp because I can stick them in registers, in screw holes in ducts, when I tape them on line set, I can insulate them and get a more true reading. Actually I really like the ST4 by fieldpiece for temp readings due to the price, two temp probes, and the ability to calibrate them temp sensors in ice water- amzn.to/2AhR6ph - I do and will use temp clamps from time to time but only with the SMAN 460 thanks

honestly that has always worked very well for me and accurate in different situations, thanks Dapper Don!
@acservicetechchannel
@acservicetechchannel 6 лет назад
I don't at this point but it wouldn't hurt to have electrically insulated gloves, thanks. In general, I try to figure out ways of testing things when amperage is less or not being drawn or with the power off and the component disconnected whenever possible.
