Now that you have a new aquarium, you should develop a regular maintenance schedule. There’s no one exact method, but we recommend the following: One, check your fish to make sure they’re healthy and inspect your equipment to ensure it’s working properly. Three, remove 25% of your water. The easiest way is with a gravel vacuum. Four, wipe down your glass and replace your filter cartridge. Depending on the waste load, carbon can lose its effectiveness after just a few weeks, so swap in a new one, and be sure to rinse it off first. Then, dose your tank with SafeStart™ to cycle your new filter. Finally, de-chlorinate your new water with Tetra® AquaSafe® and then add it to your tank.
