Heading out of town? Here are some helpful hints to keep your fish safe. Before leaving, get your aquarium in optimal shape. Check your fish for illness. Move any that look unhealthy to a hospital tank. Do a moderate water change and test your water quality. Use any water care products at this time. Make sure your equipment is working properly, especially your filter, aeration and heater. In anticipation of your absence, don’t overfeed your fish. Instead, use a vacation feeder to keep fish nourished up to 10 days. These blocks don’t dissolve, and fish can eat them at their own pace. You may want to have a friend check in every few days, as well. And if you prefer, they can even feed your fish regularly while you’re away. Have a safe and wonderful trip!
