This video expressed a problem about the angle of the water intake tube! I just got mine and I noticed the same problem with the intake tube sticking our at a weird angle. I easily corrected this by placing a 3 or 4 cm thick of flexible foam packing material between the outer glass and the filter body!!!
Mine is loud too. It's also difficult to clean unless you have a big bucket or wash basin you don't use for other things. I'm getting rid of it once I sell my aquarium.
Hi, yeah some hang on the back filters are large and clunky and can be difficult to clean. I'm currently switching all of my tanks over to sumps in order to make cleaning easier and less frequent. I actually got rid of this filter when I sold an aquarium setup a while back. All in all, I'd say this is a good cheap filter. Thanks for watching.
@@fishn4k969 when I take the cover off of the pump there is a single hole and the magnetic bar doesn’t fit in it. Where do I pop the fan into? Thanks for helping me btw!
Hi, so I had Frontosas, electric blue acara, electric blue jack dempsey, angelfish, millennium rainbows, rainbow shark, african clawed frog and a common pleco. I have moved some of them to their own separate tanks. Thanks for watching.
Hi, actually he would never bother the fish at all. The fish would pick at his skin when he would shed it off since they like to eat it as a snack. Maybe frogs would eat smaller fish so beware.
I would say the impeller is noisy because it is not in a vertical position. It look like it's at an extreme angle because of the wide bracing. Just my thoughts have you tried running the filter on a smaller tank or bucket or something?
Todd Hayslett Hi, yea I originally had this filter on a 60 gallon tank and moved it to this tank to supplement my canister filter. It's always been loud. It's still a great cheaper filter though.
I think this is just a symptom of this type of filter. If you research every HOB filter you will find noise complaints. I think sometimes you just get a bad one. You know one guy loves Aquaclear and the next says it's just junk and Marineland is best and the next guy says no Whisper filters are best. Yes we shouldn't have to fiddle with these things and be engineers to make it work, but all of them are built cheap. Sad really.
nice video. i have had an ex70 years and the electricity went down yesterday at home and now the impeller is not performing its function and no water is moving up. i have cleaned all of it and there is nothing obvious that is obstructing the movement of water but i am unable to remove the impeller to check underneath. any suggestions you can help with. i even soaked the impeller corner of the power head in vinegar in case
Eilyn Barroso Hi, I'm sorry about your filter giving out on you. Since you already cleaned it, I would say your best bet is to remove the impeller and reseat it. I know you mentioned you couldn't get to it but the housing can be pulled off easily by tugging on the intake tube. After you've done that and if it still doesn't work I'd say it's probably time for a new filter. I recommend the Seachem Tidal 75, I've been testing it and I like it. I'll be posting a review on it soon. Hope this helps and good luck.
How often should you change the filter and how far from the bottow of the tank should it sit..Thank you for vid btw I'm new to this just wanna get it right and every little detail counts ....thanks brother
Chris Goebel You’re gonna wanna keep the intake tube at least 3 inches from the substrate (if you have sand a little higher). If you’re using the store bought cartridge I’d say monthly & remember to use tank water when cleaning off the filter & bio media. Hope this helps & thanks for watching 👍
FishN4K never!! ..unless they break...or other filter components somehow get damaged or replaced I never replace them. Does nature? I think naturally nope it doesn’t....mostly. Beings do...humans...especially if other places are or will be visited...we will add and replace....hopefully we don’t break nature....mostly work with it and similar to it, Sure get real basic and you trash something and that accepted by nature..but nature doesn’t give you a new whisper filter..nope I’ve not seen that happen yet....I’d be sooo amazed and in disbelief if one grew out of the ground....came out of the ocean &/or some volcano...nahh I don’t think so. ..ya could make a better filter much more basic resource components required to build it...and get better results than any store bought filter if you really wanna get basic...and low resource requirements to maintain the filter.....I’m gonna. I suggest as few replacements as possible. Clean sure but hopefully feeding a plant with filter cleaning stuff...sure nature can do it...but you can faster and similar to nature. ...some things that travel long ways &/or require fabrication..energy...sheez so many things can be reused...reuse is a key to replicating nature....working with it and like it...and sheez it saves in so much way including time saved.. ...reuse is a hella powerful technology. I’m keeping my whisper for functionality and ideas plus it works ok.....not near as good as a filter(s) I will have made....but why waist it as well? I’ll strip it for other things when the motor breaks yet maybe keep the housing and most of the rest of it. Reuses be pretty good I fink.
I soo hope I can think of a better way to do water chill better...it will drop power use for ac....maybe cause less ac use because my chilled tanks would & do help drop temps....I’ve been thinking this so long....at least I’m reusing my toilet paper rolls.....that took some time to find functionality for sure....course in my plant & snail only aquariummmumums.
batmanmotherfucker Hi, I ended up giving this filter away with a tank I sold. I can't say for certain but I would say about 12inches wide. Hope this helps, thanks for watching
You mentioned that you took apart the impeller. Mine sticks and if I power off it takes me messing with it to get it flowing while I try and connect the housing to the intake. Could you do a video about getting yours workin after taking it apart? Mine was dry for a while with little use and deposits anywhere on the unit...inside seems good when I run a finger in it. Maybe I’ll try a pipe cleaner &/or mini bottle brush.
Hi, so I actually started having the exact same issue as you on yours a couple weeks after my video. I was going to make a video on it but didn't get to make it before I ended up selling one of my aquariums and threw this filter in to seal the deal. If I remember correctly, I used to have to wiggle the lower housing by where the impeller connects to the intake tube to get it working again. I highly recommend the Seachem Tidal series of filters as they offer good warranty, many features, and higher build quality at a reasonable price point. Check out my Seachem Tidal Video if interested. Thanks for watching and I hope your whisper starts working again soon.
Thanks for the video and replying. I forget exactly what things seemed most important initially getting mine running again...but a day or so ago it got unplugged....and I thought ohh no....not again...but I plugged power back in and it worked...go figure. I expected better from tetra....I know they aren’t the go to for premium some aquatic stuff...but sheez getting it restarted before this last time took so much..disassembly...tweaking this and that plus’s pretty much keeping the whole thing submerged until I knew the motor was working at full power...plus’s I then had to take extreme care in lifting it up on the side of the tank..not tweaking anything and keeping the intake fully submerged...I think I spent 2 hours trying to do it when I wrote my first comments....hopefully last time there was just to much dry molecules around the motor area....but like I mentioned it felt fine and I even brushed inside just in case. ....hopefully this pump/filter lasts a while longer and won’t have issues if powered off for a little while.
Hi, it's a Petsmart 125 gallon aqueon tank. I highly recommend the tank, it's great. I need to review the tank since I've had it for quite some time now. Thanks for watching, sub for more.
