It’s no Ryu, I was struggling to find any kata with this weapon. So I created my own system and movements. It was used as an experiment to find the difficulties using a heavy weapon in combat. I created the movement and then created techniques with those movement. Hope that helps
That is very true, I struggled to find techniques in this area, I found only one book which did not cover enough information, including the problems with fighting with something that creates a huge amount of weight. These movements are not old and they are made up by me, I used the idea of wilding a sledge hammer. More research is needed, not only in the dynamic of this weapon but historically of how it is best used against armour. Each of the sequences are shown on other videos and how they can be built on. I have shown only the first three.
You’re telegraphing your movements. The weapon needs to be moved first before you follow through. I’ve been training with this style of weapon for a couple of years myself. It shouldn’t be used like a sledgehammer, because that sets you up into thinking the weight of the weapon does the work. It’s no different than a good punch or kick. In the sense you drive through your target. Remember it’s just an extension of your body. I’d also suggest you practice the fundamentals of basic strikes. Vertical, horizontal, diagonal, and thrusting attacks as a basis of training. There also needs to be more emphasis on core strength driving the technique. Honestly, there’s probably no real secrets to using this weapon. Only extreme emphasis on proper technical form. Due to its size and weight. On a side note. I really should make videos myself.
I don’t have access to a quality camera yet. I’m planning on making videos when I can access to one, and I’m still in recovery from an illness too. The lighter 7lbs one I have should be easier than the 11lbs studded version, but they are eventually coming. I may do it under a different account though.
