You have to look at it as a package, because at the end of the day they wanted both players. If you end up picking Anderson at 2, the price of the #3 pick goes up considerably since stroud is available

@@yoh.3230 not really, they would have taken Will at #2 and wanted to but know it would have been insanely expensive to trade for CJ and other teams like the Titans and maybe Raiders or Falcons would also be bidding on that pick, this is the price they paid to get both not just the one and half the picks we have weren’t even ours and the Texans already recouped the third rounder they traded

They had the second pick. They had the choice. They could skip a QB which is probably a bad idea, but they could. They Could tale will 2nd overall. No law saying they had to take two players. 31 teams in the league felt they could survive the draft without trading for will. I fail to see why they had to take both. The problem with PFF is that they overvalue their philosophy. I get it; they’re nerds and is all about the process. At the end of the day it’s about getting good football players on your team. Draft capital and value is useless if you draft bad players. Example the 49ers spent significant draft capital on a QB with no return. While late round QB gets them to NFC championship 🤷🏿‍♂️
@stratdaddy
@stratdaddy Год назад
I agree it ultimately comes down to picking good football players, but nobody in the league is able to consistently just pick good players because of the randomness involved. Think about it this way, if the Texans kept those picks and picked 4 good players they’d be better off than trading it all just for Anderson. They focus on the process of getting value out of draft picks because since drafting players is often such a shit shoot, the best you can do at the end of the day is cast a wide net and give yourself the best odds.

2024 1st, 2024 3rd, and 2023 2nd to move up 9-spots to take what could be a Von Miller/Mack type player is a very good trade. The whole point of Houston's position there was to use their VERY deep draft capital to acquire best picks available. They did that and they still have draft picks left over. I think it would be a bad trade if Houston didn't have so many picks stockpiled, but they do so it just makes sense. IMO, both teams won that trade as they got what they needed out of it.

I dont understand why now that its the Texans that's traded up to get Anderson he's not the "Elite" prospect anymore? Last year every analyst was like "the top talent and edge players of this draft is good bc there's just no QBs, but the best edge/defensive player went back to college" (Will Anderson). Then take a look back at previous drafts. He would have been the best *defensive prospect* in this one 2023 and 2022, 2021, maybe 2020 (Better stats than Chase Young), 2018, probably not 2017 (But had better stats than Garrett), 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, and 2012. So he's debatable Top 3 defensive/edge *prospects* in the last decade but not worth it for a team that desperately needs that position and a leader on defense.

You have to give up a lot for a top 3 pick, history has shown that. What it comes down to is the Texans pick for next year, and I think is possible to say the Browns pick was more valuable since they play in a tougher division. Btw, if you believe the reports this was a Stroud trade and they picked him 2 to have the 3rd pick lose some value. I think the Texans did great. Panthers gave up a ton for the #1 pick also.
@deathhimself1653
@deathhimself1653 Год назад
Panthers got a QB with 2. Texans didn't need Will Anderson. Now that they have him, they need Will Anderson to have equivallent value to four starters. Now, sure, one of those is a running back, another is a tight end, but a first and third are still going to have value. Basically, even if he's Myles Garret, he's going to be hurting the team because of his cost.
