Incidentally, the system has NO KILL SWITCH. If you manage to fall off your kayak you'll see it sail away into the sunset. Oh, and after the discount, the replacement motor comes to $609!!! WTF?!
This IS the exact motor and propeller the unit I have uses: VGEBY 2838 5000KV Waterproof Thruster with 60mm Propeller RC Underwater Thruster (Reverse) a.co/d/6bQBhxQ
I have 3 TPP gen1's they all came with a cut off switch and they were one of the first ones sold. not sure how yours isn't there. But I do want to thank you for the blue robotics info it has really helped as TPP prices are crazy. I got a new unit for $200 and installing it now. The old motors it looks like the rotor is the problem the coating on the inside is missing in spots and the magnets start to rust then seize up the unit. I'll be buying a new rotor to see if I can repair this one. I have always rinsed and used the right lube after each use, but I can see now that isn't enough. My suggestion now is a 5 gallon bucket of fresh water and let the motor run slowly to completely flush the system then drain a lube after each use. after finding the t200 info I found on thingiverse a 3d print for both the prop and the weed guard trying those as I type but you have to look it up t200 not TPP I'm still looking for the other items if anyone has info on the controller, cable ends, or motor mounts
First of all let me say thank you for taking the time to put together this video and offer viewers and prospective Texas Power Paddle customers an independent and unbiased review of their products and service. The only other reviews on RU-vid are from the TPP channel and are obviously sponsored and thus biased. I have the same boat (Hobie Outback 2022) and have been considering the TPP system for a while now. The only difference being, I was considering the Remora system that fits into the transducer space. I even went as far as contacting the company (as you said, you never get a live person) about a demo of the system. Someone did return my call and left a message saying that their demonstration program was no longer available. So if you go to their website, they actually still advertise a demonstration program which doesn't even exist! The way I look at it, I wouldn't buy a car, a boat, a motorcycle or anything else of any value, without trying it out or test driving it first. That was a red flag for me immediately. After listening to your very valid and troubling concerns, I believe I will just continue to look for a different system, or possibly even put one together myself. Any company that can't stand behind their product or service shouldn't even be considered.
I've been through 3 rotors, all have gotten corroded and the motor froze. I have been able to sand down the corrosion and seems to work. I also am going to purpose a rotor from Blue Robotics. Its 1/3 of the price TPP want me to pay
Thank you! Thank you! Ive been looking at either the Texas or the Bixby and have not bought either because of the feaar of weed clogs. I'm on Lake Guntersville and Wilson - both high density weeds. Good for bass, bad for the Texas Power Paddle given your experience. Best real-world assessement I've seen. Will be interested in their response or corrective actions!
They have not responded other than to ask if I made the video. They're playing ostrich. Zero customer support... Do me a favor, please share this video on any kayaking forum you belong to. Help me get the word out!
It's certainly better than the thruster. The new system is an improvement, but I still had to hack it... Like adding a kill switch to it. Also, this is NOT for salt conditions.
Well I was going to bite the bullet and buy 2 remora’s for my 2 Lynx but sounds like I’m better off taking my 18v drill and adding a drill propeller. 😂
Not questioning you but my own experience was better. Mine came with a red kill switch with coiled cable, don't know why yours doesn't. Sorry you had bad experience .I had no trouble getting answer within a day from either the owner or customer service. Have had one for 2 years on my Outback use it in Texas marsh twice week. No problems. Every few months you gotta take appart and clean motor but do maintenance on my outboard boat too. Company states : "On full throttle 120 minutes, low throttle or combine w pedaling, average user gets 6-8 hours". So do not claim all day. I usually go out 4-5 hours use it mid to full and still have 45% battery. Do not work for them and paid retail. If you lube use marine grade lithium grease. WD40 is good for door hinges but has rusted some of mine. They have new model motor for heavy weed areas. Hope you find a system that works for you. Friend has new Old Town Epedal 132 and an Autopilot 120 he loves.
You could’ve just bought the one that’s meant for the transducer plate for your outback 🤓 they didn’t do anything wrong, you just ordered the wrong version lmao
