For all the know it alls that don't live in Houston or have a clue... For Rita, I personally spent 11 1/2 hours on the road (with my kids and pets) to go a distance that normally takes a couple hours. Many others spent even longer... due to the gridlock, many ran out of gas and were stranded. There were hundreds that died. Now - if you had all those people on the road when this storm moved in, the numbers would have been in the thousands if not tens of thousands. We didn't even really start hearing about the storm until Wednesday and by Thursday night it was on us. All I can say is walk a mile in our shoes before you start talking about what we should have done!

Don't let the rain stop you from moving. I've lived here for 7 years and it's a great city. No floods in my area. Just some rain. Also this video was made during the Hurricane Harvey that ended 3 years ago

When it comes to a natural disaster, it is up to every individual person to decide what to do for your own survival. It's not the Mayors decision. You knew the hurricane was coming in advance and what a hurricane can do from past hurricanes in your state or other states. Why blame the government or mayor for you not being prepared?

Yeah, you'll always have some of the snowflakes who see a little water in the streets and they'll start crying about *someone* needing to rescue them. On the other hand, you'll see real Texans who will look at this as just an inconvenience and will stay put and maybe move to the 2nd floor of their house or they'll walk out of the subdivisions themselves. My subdivision is not flooding, but some of the neighboring ones are. If it gets too bad, I will move the important stuff up into the attic and then get the kayak out of the garage and deal with it.

+purplepassion1 Darwinism in action then... I have no sympathy for them. There's no excuse to not knowing how to swim here in the South. There's plenty of water and it's warm. I could maybe understand someone in Alaska not knowing how to swim since the water is so cold up there that you will probably die from hypothermia before you can drown. :)
