Welcome to the U.S. Route 66, also known as the Main Street of America! Established in 1926, this historic 2,448-mile (3,940-km) highway crosses 8 states of the United States from Chicago, IL to Los Angeles, CA.
In this video, we drove the portion across TEXAS, NEW MEXICO and ARIZONA, spending 1 day in each of these states. We discovered 3 parks where you can enjoy very diverse landscapes:
- Palo Duro Canyon State Park in Amarillo, TX (a large orange canyon)
- El Malpais and El Morro National Monuments near Grants, NM (volcanic landscpape)
- The Painted Desert Wilderness section of Petrified Forest National Park, AZ (a pink desert)
I would not particularly recommend this itinerary though because it's a lot of driving.
