The recent Michigan teams were built primarily to beat Ohio State and have done so in recent years. Texas is built like Ohio State. New year though and a lot of uncertainty remains for both teams. I am a Longhorn fan but humble.
I just posted about that game. I saw 2 Colorado games in Houston. One with my brother when they played OU, and the other that game. That Texas defense was really good, and I think they disrespected him in that game. Especially when they went for that safety when the game was out of hand. I’m impressed he even brought it up because that was a home game crowd for Texas, and Texas home fans used to be really lame in Austin, but not when they played in Houston. Most of that team were from Houston.
Incredible compliment for Klatt to say that about Vince Young given he played the same position. I'm happy to see Joel Klatt experience great success as a broadcaster/content creator. I enjoy what he does.
Let's all agree these 2 programs facing off in Week 2 is great for football, especially with the new playoff structure. I am so excited to watch Texas' Offensive Line vs. Michigan's Defensive Line. Big boy football!
I agree, Vince Young was the best college player I've ever seen. "My" Buckeyes played them their championship year, and that game was epic. Young almost singlehandedly won that game and the USC game. "Superman" was a fitting nickname.
I’m a lifelong Ohio State fan, and remember that game in Columbus, in 2005! Ohio State lost by 3, or 4 points, but I thought Ohio State should have won that game! Ohio State had the lead late into the 4 th quarter, but didn’t finish, so you have to give Texas credit! That win was key to Texas going on to-winning a National Championship against USC, great game, as well! Young was a great college football player, but in all honesty, did not throw the football very well, inaccurate, and to say he was the greatest football player ever, is not true! There have been many college football players in history better than Vince Young, in my opinion! I’m now 65 years old , and have seen just about every Ohio State game since 1967, and Archie Griffin, the only two time Heisman winner in history was better, Eddie George was better, Troy Smith was better, and recently C J Stroud was better, Justin Fields was better, and so on! What made Vince Young great, was his running ability, not his passing ability, or football IQ! I could list many others, as well, like Earle Campbell, and maybe the greatest player of all time, Jim Brown! Ohio State got Texas back in 2006, in Austin, Texas, when Texas was ranked # 2, and Ohio State #1! I was living there back then, still live in Texas now! Go Buckeyes! 🌰🏈
@@JeffreyLeohner Now, to be clear, I said Young was the best college player I'VE ever seen play, I don't think he's the greatest player ever, but he's a top 5 for me. And yes, I clearly remember our guys beating Texas at their home in 06. Colt McCoy's first year.
It was a really great game! I wish Young had came back that last year because it would have been better than a freshman Colt McCoy who really didn’t catch on until after that game.
I am a lifelong Longhorn and I have much respect for Michigan. Not that it matters but you guys are my favorite team of the B1G, always have been. I think the way Michigan can win, is to frustrate Quinn early and often and have turnovers change the game momentum, then control the clock. Otherwise, if he gets hot Texas has too many weapons and will torch the Wolverines secondary, there is too much speed and depth to keep up. Sark will try to play fast to keep the UM Def from rotating fresh bodies. Texas will stack the box and force Michigan to throw on offense to try and make you one-dimensional. Our pass D is much improved over last year and these guys can cover and are not afraid to initiate contact. I'm looking forward to a great, classic match-up. I hope we get to play against you more often. Good luck and Hook Em! \m/
Joel Klatt opinions and assessments are such a refresher. I can't wait to see what he has to say on a daily basis. When I speak with my buddies, they always think, "wow he makes good sense" and then I tell them. I am just summarizing Joel Klatt.
I was at the Rose Bowl for both the Michigan and USC games. Vince Young was so clutch that everyone just believed we'd win no matter what the situation was. Down 12 to the "greatest team ever assembled" with 6 minutes left? We got this.
That USC was one of the greatest college teams ever and wins a natty in almost any other years. *Thats* how good VY was in that national championship game and the Texas team in general. Those two teams are arguably both in the top 10 teams of the last 30 years.
Michigan is going to revert to the mean, starting this year. What they were during Jim's first six years, is what they are. They are not the powerhouse they were under Connor.
I don't think that joel nor brady quinn discussed the potential impact of the weather on saturday's game. There's a massive cold front coming in with rain. Texas relies on the strong passing game and the run is to keep the pass open. Michigan stuffs the run and we run as a culture. The weather may make the difference in a Michigan victory.
Michigan fan/alum, pulling for the Wolverines, but Texas by 7.5 is reasonable. They could easily win by more. They have a huge edge at quarterback, head coach experience. The only way Michigan has any chance is if their defense plays lights out. There’s a huge drop off between JJ McCarthy and the two quarterbacks Michigan currently has, and it’s a brand new offensive line. Advantage definitely with Texas.
@@SWLion26 I imagine if this was a big rivalry there would be more "talk". Seems like the respect is mutual on both sides. The turnover battle will probably decide the game if it's close, as it so often does. Yeah, on paper, experience, Texas might have some edge. Should be exciting. Hook 'em!
@@SWLion26 Yeah one of the Michigan commentator sqyads pointed out that we reminded them of you guys last year. Got so the show, lost, still hungry. Should be a good game. Hookem
Buckeyes fan, but I always want Michigan to be good so it's a great matchup. It only helps the big 10 get as many teams in the playoffs if we beat the other big teams. We want Michigan to beat Texas. Specially since it's in Michigan. And they're in the SEC now. They added Texas and Oklahoma and we added Washington, Oregon and USC and UCLA. No one thought USC would be LSU. We need our new additions to beat the SEC new additions.
@@MacaroniCeroni Get over that cheating stuff because Texas fans don’t care! That is a non-story to us! Hope Texas wins, but I’m not sure how this game will go!
Joel, Michigan was able to hit and harass Penix in championship game and Washington had a top ranked OL. So they will likely be able to get to Quinn to some extent. However, I can't see how Michigan offense scores on Texas defense. 24 - 16. Texas wins.
I’ll tell you how Murphy and Sweat two top 64 NFL picks are gone… that’s big deal.. as well as check the weather report in Ann Arbor for the entire weekend.. wet cold rainy windy
@boschlosser10 Good point on the weather. Texas DL are not as good as last year, but still pretty good and there are 7 that can play with 5 seniors wanting to get drafted.
The difference in Texas line didn’t fall short in the middle. They’re decent still; but it’s the edge. One of them decommiting from Michigan. Also, look for Trey Moore.
In 2021 and with Cade McNamara at QB, gamewrecker Aidan Hutchinson recorded 15 QB pressures and 3 sacks on CJ stroud to deliver The Game to a one-dimensional heavyset Hassan Haskins offense. I’ve got a feeling the Grant-Graham gamewrecker tandem and Kalel “Freight Train” Mullings are about to formally announce themselves to the CFB world and do something similar.
Thoughtful comparison. Gonna be that guy and point out that 2021 had Stalions though. Tomorrow would be a great opportunity to prove that his involvement didn't matter. Game has a lot greater implications than just win/loss column.
@@bonedawgstudio5649 Didn’t have Stallions for Penn St, Maryland, Iowa, Ohio St, Alabama, Washington. All due respect to Texas I don’t think this is the game to prove Stallions involvement wasn’t essential. Appreciate the comment, definitely huge implications. Can’t wait.
@@asay636 let's not pretend that those games aren't still called into question outside of the university's eco chamber though. My point is that this is the first big game where besides Moore, there are no plausible or even over reaching connections to the scandal, and tomorrow's outcome will absolutely impact the narratives surrounding this year's (obviously) as well as last season's product and how the program will be seen from a historical context. Simply put, there's no denying that a convincing victory against Texas would go a long way towards silencing any sceptics.
@@bonedawgstudio5649 No doubt I've certainly seen lots of people still call those post-Stallions wins into questions (and I mean LOTS), but it usually comes from rival OSU/MSU fans in the form of “cheater cheater pumpkin eater" as oppose to anything logical or remotely fair-minded. I'm admittedly a UM fan but when I try to think about this logically, if it was Stallions' ill-begotten signs which conferred the advantage of stealing opponent signals, and not only is everyone made aware that UM has their signs but Stallions is removed from the program, where is the unfair advantage? If anything, it now impairs UM's ability below the baseline to conduct even legal in-game and tape-derived sign-stealing. If the logic is that they wouldn't have gotten to that point without Stallions, then you either haven't seen what their early schedule looked like or you don't know ball. You seem reasonable and agree with almost everything you said, would love to hear any logical argument for those later games being in question? Yes, no doubt a win for UM would be massive, but not to disprove the talking points of last years holdover haters but rather to set the tone for this new year and this new era of post-Harbaugh, Sherrone Moore led football.
I think it comes down to three things. First if Michigan actual plays to their capacity, second if Texas allows the projections get to their head. Third is the trenches, whichever group manages to win the Texas O vs UoM D wins the game. Definitely advantage to Texas but I think it’s close enough that it’s a toss up more than most would like to admit.
Longtime Buckeye fan here…I’m pulling for Michigan to represent the Big Ten in the best way as they always do by suffocating Texas’ high powered offense with stifling, hard nosed, opportunistic defense while Michigan’s offense merely plays for field position and field goals. Michigan wins in a low scoring battle for the ages. Hail to the Victors! Good Luck to the Wolverines from this Buckeye fan; Hoping we can meet in late November both undefeated! Go Buckeyes 🌰 Total Respect to Michigan ✊
Im another Buckeye fan, VERY longtime for me. I will take that bet that the team up north gets taken to the woodshed by Texas. I will be back after the game for accountability, one way or the other, for my choice. Just FYI a TRUE Buckeye fan NEVER pulls for the team up north.
WOW I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD SEE A RESPECTFUL OHIO STATE FAN I HOPE MICHIGAN AND OHIO STATE GO UNDEFEATED UNTIL WE FACE OFF AND THEN MICHIGAN WINS AGAIN HAIL TO THE VICTORS!!
Texas fan here, it’s gonna be a great game. I believe the Texas speed will get the better of Michigans defense. This Texas team has so much depth I’m not worried about our defense. It would be awesome to see a a blowout Texas win but i think it’ll be a Texas win 31-28
Michigan held Washington to 13 they were more talented than this Texas team.. Michigan held 2022 tOSU to 22 with Stroud MHJ Egbuka Najiba-Smith.. more talented then Texas.. list goes on… CHECK THE WEATHER REPORT
@@boschlosser10 hey sir it’s 2024 it not 22 or 23. Did you not see how much your offense struggled against Fresno state. Michigan has 5 starters returning, Texas has 14. According to Fox Texas has 11 five star players on their roster Michigan has 1. Texas has 50 four star players, Michigan has 46. Texas has 19 three star players, Michigan has 38. Stop talking about what happened in 22. You don’t have a solid QB, the best thing you can say about the team in their D-Line is great that’s basically it.
Good for Klat for talking about that 2005 Big 12 game. I’m a Longhorn fan, and I think our defense was really disrespectful to him, and I rarely say that, but he took a few cheap shots. I was actually at the game.
As a Longhorn fan, Michigan has always been one of the teams I respect the most. I have been looking forward to this game for a long time. I believe it will be a tough game, I don't care what anyone says.
I literally said the same thing after he single handedly beat Michigan and then witnessing what he did the following year against USC....I was dumbfounded and could not believe more people were not saying he was the best player in the country amd not talking more about that performance..... and potentially stating Vince as one of the best players ever. I still to this day say the win against USC was the greatest all around performance I have ever seen in college football. But seeing him struggle in the NFL kind of shut me up.
If that offense was just tinkering last week to see what they had and they have a solid game plan and can execute then I choose Michigan to win by around 6. If the offense is every bit what it was last week, I choose Texas to break away in the last 5 minutes of the game and win by 20+. My honest thought is that Texas will go up over 14 early stay at that margin and then break Michigan and win by 30-35. I hate to say that but I think that will be the case.
I was in the stands in 2005 the first time u played Vince that year. Man that Texas team was incredible. You guys were good but looked like a Junior High that day. Love your show.
Or the other factor is Michigan shutting down the Texas passing game. If Michigan can get to Ewers consistently it also becomes a low scoring game than anyone can win.
The path to victory for Michigan is to be able to get pressure sending 4, that way Michigan can drop 7 into coverage to contain the passing game. Getting pressure with 4 will allow wink to send blitz here and there and rattle ewers. If Michigan is constantly having to blitz to get pressure on ewers it’s going to be a long game. On the offensive side it’s all about the line play, if the line can get some push and allow the run game to develop Michigan will wear Texas down and even allow Warren to get comfortable and allow Semaj and Loveland to make plays down the field. This screams to me Michigan vs OSU 2021/2022
Real Talk.... AO gives MI its best chance to beat TX. Checkout Monday press conference from TX Coach. DW is an outstanding young man with a great story. Hoever, AO is MI best bet against TX.
Actually it's great in 2024. It's always great, especially right. We.could lose half our games this year and most of us would still be riding the afterglow of last year.
All I'm gonna say is always bet on defense. Especially when it's led by the best D-line in CFB. Gotta get the run game going and lucky for us, this is where I feel UT is vulnerable. Ball control, no big plays, and muddy it up and UM wins the game. 24-13.
Texas is one of the best run stopping teams in the country to go along with an experienced and physical o line on the other side . If Michigan leaves a safety in the box I don’t think they have to speed to keep up with Texas if the drop their safeties Texas will just eat off of screens and intermediate completions
Don't forget that every game that coach Moore took over for last year was close . Also I don't think that Michigan's cards were shown playing it next to cheek. I'm optimistic for Michigan but that's just me being a fan .lol. Go blue
Sherrone Moore is a genius. Ewers is gonna be under more pressure than he's ever faced thus far in his collegiate career. The offense presents Terence Crawford type problems for Texas' defense. They can go orthodox with Davis Warren and the pro style attack; they can go southpaw with Alex Orji and the Spread Option.
Ewers has played Sabans Bama *in* Alabama (Only six quartebacks have *ever* beaten Saban at home since 2008....) and vs OU. He has been in violent games, I dont understand . The Texas linebackers are much improved vs last year, they are fast and physical.
If Michigan is going to win they have to start Orji and concentrate on putting together 10-12-14 play drives utilizing the run game. They have to at the very least maintain favorable field position all game long forcing Texas to drive the entire field. Michigan has to dominate the time of possession and score when they can even if that scoring is just a field goal. If they control their position on the field, sustain long drives, and eat up the clock they can control the momentum of the game, keep Texas out of rhythm offensively, and wear down the defense. That is their only path to victory, I believe. If they start Warren they lose. Simple as that. What do you think?
I think it is very unrealistic to think UM can win this game for a long list of reasons. Let's list them. With the exception of Hinton we lost the entire O-Line. Our starting QB is a walk-on with 1 start. Our 3-star receivers are new starters and unproven. Our secondary lost 2 critical pieces, Moore to an ACL and Keon Sapp to Alabama. A new HC, a new DC who may prove to be blitz happy and a new OC. We learned our RB1 is now RB 2. Our only offensive weapon is Colston but Texas will probably double team him. I can't predict the score and I hope I am wrong but I see Texas winning fairly easily.
Michigan’s defense is solid but I think the offensive players lack of ability combined with the lack of aggression/creativity from the coaching staff, eliminates any chance of Michigan winning
Michigan 23 Texas 21 Brady Quinn said something interesting that I am banking on and being incautiously optimistic about convincing myself Michigan did😂. He said in 2004 they had Michigan week 2 and BYU week 1. Their entire camp was getting ready for Michigan thinking they could just out talent BYU. They lost to BYU 20-17 but then beat Michigan 28-20 the next week. I do have some evidence to support my theory which is predicated on the offense play calling coupled with how easy they scored on that last drive, but that doesn’t mean that I am entirely right…just being a bias fan and telling myself that to keep the faith haha. I picked Michigan 23-21 with a 6/10 confidence for that reason above, along with (I haven’t listened to the show yet and will now) a few others. I do believe they spent their entire camp preparing for Texas, just to reiterate reason 1. Reason 2 is Texas lost the two biggest pieces of their d line and a horrific team was able to run on them fairly successfully at times, so Michigan can test their D much better. If Michigan can run even just 50% better than they did last week, they’ll control the clock, keep the defense rested and the TX offense off the field which is their wheelhouse on how they’ve won games the last 3 years. Number 3 is Texas has their top 2 running backs out and had struggles running against a horrific team at times last week. They’re not going to be able to run well against us. So they become one dimensional and we’re able to drop 5 in the secondary to cover their passing game which should pressure them hopefully. Reason 4 is Ewers is hot and cold and WILL commit at least one turnover. If Michigan wins the turn over battle which I think they will, their clock control and game plan will keep them from scoring on most drives. Last reason is an extension of the previous one: biggest match up is our d line vs their o line. It’s the best o line we will face all year, but we will win that battle in the long run and shut down drives just enough to give our offense opportunities (see 3rd down sacks against OSU 2021, obviously this game isn’t analogous from a team and match up perspective, I’m merely saying that just winning on key 3rd downs to stall drives is what helped win that game and should be a key this game). I like Sark and respect Texas. One of the premier programs whose fanbase and institution I actually admire and have no issues with. I’m riding with my guys but wouldn’t be surprised to see a 27-21 Texas win either. Good luck to both teams, come out injury free, safe travels to the Texas fans, and may the best team win. Looking forward to two historic programs battling.
I think Michigan matches up well with their defense versus Texas' offense. Michigan's DLine is stout and has 4 future NFL players. Their secondary is also very good and will take the ball away. Lastly, Barham in the middle will be a Butkus finalist this year. So they'll give Texas offense all they can handle. Ewers better have his head on a swivel. Michigan's offense is a run first offense that works off playaction. Very NFL-like with a good RB and All-American TE. Texas' defense may be improved, but they're mostly transfers and haven't faced a good team yet on the road. Michigan's offense is still trying to figure it out! But if both of their QBs can play at a high level, they'll give this retooled Texas defense fits because you gotta defend two different styles of play. I know everyone wants to pick Texas in this game based on their win in week 1 versus a nobody! Texas hasn't played a team this caliber on defense and in general in a long time during the regular season. I don't think they're ready yet to win a Natty! And they'll have to beat a team that won it last year. Good luck!
So no one is giving credit to FRESNO STATE O LINE. These dudes were MEN. Ponafatu Kamuta 368 lbs. Julian Polendo 340. Braylen Nelson 320. These weights are from last year. Boys in TX are not Hawaii warriors. Avg 330. Mason and KG will push them around. Quinn will get pressured . They will load the box to protect him. Michigan takes them 35-10. Oh yeah 1 more thing - Don’t count out The M QB. The dudes larger than life. And everyone in the supporting cast are National CHAMPION winners. You coming to the BIG HOUSE OF THE NATIONAL CAMPS ! You are welcome !
I expect this game to be similar to georgia vs clemson except texas is georgia and michigan is clemson. Michigan's defense gets some hard stops in the first half and texas will have to settle for field goals or the 1st half is just really low scoring for both sides. During halftime though, texas figures out a way around michigans defense and comes away with the game. Meanwhile michigan can't generate offense in return because they're just missing the veteran players and coaches to do so. Ive got Texas winning and covering the spread.
