If they made a 4 input version of this mixer and sold it for 80 bucks i would pull the trigger in a second. I'm trying to set up a 4 person podcast setup with the best cheapest gear around since i've spent so much on my studio setup. Glad i found your channel man, thank you for your videos from one ohio audiophile to another 👑
It is pretty amazing how much decent stuff how shown up in the last year or so. Everyone is jumping on the podcast band wagon and suppliers are responding
You won't believe it.. I ordered this through Lazada in Indonesia from a Chinese seller for $15 Can't be bogus because another 20 sellers selling this in the same platform at the same price. While it's not a big deal of a cost this very video made me buy it - and a dynamic microphone which is not the SM7B but another recommendation from this channel. You are gold my man. Subbed of course
I started a very local 2-person podcast and had a mountain of issues using Audacity with 2 mics. I also didn't want to purchase an interface with a steep learning curve or a huge price tag. i bought two Maono 299XS XLR/USB mics with stands, this interface, two XLR cables and a headphone cable splitter for less than $180. This interface was exactly what you said it would be. Plug and play and adjust input/output settings and we are rolling. Thanks!
I ordered one just this morning here in Aizawl India and I'm really happy to hear your review of it. Just one thing though it's marketed under a different name here.
It is great that you are reviewing a cheap audio mixer. It seems like Teyun Q12 is quite capable. Also, I have found a cheap 6-channel mixer called Bomge 6 Channel Mixer. The most shocking fact is, it is only 40 dollars! I would be thrilled if you made a review of it. TIA
Yeah I am convinced, gonna get one of these if only to have around with my other entry level and professional gear for experiments and info to spread to friends looking to build a home studio.
Friend and I are looking to start a podcast and I found this on Amazon. Purchased it immediately after seeing the good reviews. Figured it’s only $30 but then I got curious, came online and found this video. I feel more confident.
Nice! It's really good for the money.... 1 thing though....the headphone out is not super powerful... So if you are going to split it out to multiple headphones... Make sure they are cheapies that won't need much power
It didn't have to have loopback for the price. But here we are. 😆 I was skeptical. Then you reviewed it. I'm buying one. 😀 Man, budget audio tech is going crazy rn. 😆
I'll post my own experience updates if n when I can because it's your review of it that finally got me to send for one. Plan - use this cheap model to prepare myself for better ones and learn as much as I can from it.
I just got mine recently, and here are some of the pros and cons. If you want to use it as a usb connector it does it's job really well, but since the design is simplistic and minimalistic and its only features are gain and volume control I would suggest that you should pair it with a multi-channel audio mixer or a soundcard that has vocal effects on it like reverb.
Much appreciated!!! Just don't expect TOO much! It's a great buy...but it's by no means a top notch device. It's plenty good enough for non professional applications
I might be a bit late to comment but anyway. The main output on this, what does it do? Does it outupt the computer system sound to headphones? If so are the output able to run something like 150ohm headphones?
This costs about 1K PHP (20 USD) at our local online shops of doom. No one's getting it because it's suspiciously cheap. You took the chance for us, Brother Bark. Very cool.
@@ObscureMics got mine as well! There's some strange buzzing when I attach my Podmic, but it could be because I have 69 other things hooked up to my workstation. I'll try it again on my laptop in a separate room next time.
I ordered one to try I want to be able to use my mic guitar and headphones I have a condenser mic so hopefully I can use all 3 with little to no major issues
One thing that the Teyun unit does not have is ASIO. You really need that if you want to record to synch or click track. You can't play midi keyboards because it is very delayed. Do not get this if you want to use it for music recording.
Real nice featureset for super cheap. One of these and a couple of XM8500's and you'd be set for a two person podcast for well under $100, and tbh your listeners probably wouldn't notice you weren't using "nice" gear. (I'm the guy trying to do voiceover/audiobook stuff for fun btw)
Hi friend, Actually I'm finding an audio interface for my singing recording, because without audio interface, my record is a little bit delayed to music beat, so Q12 can improve this problem?
Mine arrived just the other day. It's called the SRK here in India. So far, it has been really good. I'm using it with Reaper which I'm in the process of learning. It's a lot of fun 😊 The SRK is quite good for the 2400/- Rupees it costs here.
So I bought this mixer and it sounds okay, the monitor is quite right in volume, sounds loud actually. My only concern is you can only record 2 tracks separately is when you push the stereo pan knob which gives a separation in monitor as well which I don't like. I wanna hear 2 channels in center and not in left & right.
What speakers work good with these? Trying to get some gear for my girlfriend’s music setup and trying to mix in the gaming setup to with the same gear you know what I’m trying to say lol thank ya! 💜
@2:10 Were you able to test how the loop back feature works? I have the unit and don't get how I can get my PC audio to play/mix together with mic input. For reference I previously used Voicemeeter to route and mix PC audio with mic input, but with this interface I cannot get it to work. I've seen and asked in other reviews to no avail. Hope you could help out!
@@ObscureMics Thank you and please do. Fwiw I did try to set the interface as a playback device, then pressed the button, could not hear PC audio via mic input/recording device. Edit: Actually maybe I misunderstood where the mixed audio would output. Does it only output the mixed audio to the out connected to the interface's headphone jack? The only confirmation I got against this is from a lone reviewer where they seemingly sent their PC audio into the video review itself after pressing the loopback button.
im wondering if the loop back cuts the sound in half with a phantom powered mic the same as with a non phantom powered? probably right? If one is using it for zoom but also wants to have a live audience in the room hybrid like a conference, then that loss in volume would make it hard to be heard by the people in the zoom meeting.
a question: if the loopback is turned off, lets say if we are recording the mic input while playing a backtrack from the pc, will the backtrack still be heard in the headphone out (combined with the mic input)?
Hi, can this be used as a 3-channel mixer? What I mean is, is it okay to connect say a condenser microphone to that 1/8 inch (3.5 mm) input and a keyboard to the Input 1 (1/4 inch) with a guitar to the Input 2 (1/4 inch) all at the same time? If that is so, does the volume gain for Input 1 control the volume level for both the condenser mic in the 1/8 inch input and the keyboard in the 1/4 inch input at the same time? Any feedback here will be really helpful. Thank you very much.
does it phantom power just one mic or both and if both is it the same time? can I use the phantom power on mic one and my own condenser phantom mic powered separately into a mic 2 at the same time, if mic one is only one powered
Thanks for this video! I'm curious on how I could power up the 48v phantom power. I bought one but it doesn't have any power adapter with it. What should I plug it in with?
Hello Sir, I want to know if i use this mixer with my studio monitor speaker by using 2 trs cable and plugging it into the main output port of audio interface, Will it improve the audio output quality as compared to directly connecting it to the PC.
How can this be better than the AudioBox Go, when it can't even pick up radio stations? The Presonus is an audio interface and AM/FM radio, how can you top that. ;-)
Got one of these. Having problems with monitoring (I'm using it for my guitar) I can't seem to figure out how to only listen to the wet signal (im using digital effects), and get rid of the dry signal.
Makes me feel tempted to just grab that in the future, a cheapo arm and another xm8500 and grab that for the dorms. If I won't be a lazy jerk about it of course
Thats a really good setup: the mixer is $29.99, a windscreen for the Xm8500 for $3, an xlr cable for 9.39, you can get an xm8500 for $19.90 currently, a 9.90 boom arm or desktop mic stand, and that should cost you $73.13 without tax. So this is a great budget set up
China back at it again, kicking buckets lol. Tbh, the price you pay on most interfaces are probably the build quality, it's heavy, it's premium to touch and feel, it's going to last probably forever. However the components inside still does the same thing. Now there is one drawback, the Q-12 only capable of producing 16bits instead of 24. But for the price I'm not complaining, the audio would probably be compressed by RU-vid, twitch, any other streaming platform anyways. So perfectly fine for the average user. At first I was skeptical about this product online (13$ btw) but seeing your review and others really amaze me. Thanks for reviewing budget gears, not everyone got the money to spend, keep it up.
@@ObscureMics I'm curious, from your testing, what do you think about white noise and latency of the interface? Let's say we compare it with the M- audio M-track solo. What are your thoughts?
@@ObscureMics haha, you're right. Well I just need something to work first since I have invested too much into the microphone and my onboard sound card suck. I want to start off cheap, get experience then upgrade later, this interface seem perfect for me to start my hobby. Oh and with your unit, is there any latency issues?
Just ordered one on Aliexpress for $8 including tax and free shipping !! Is it too good to be true? We'll see when it gets here. 😊 Just delivered today, It's true $8 to my door and it's a pretty amazing piece of gear! It's pretty quiet and it drives my Grado Sr 80X cans no problem. Should've bought 2 at that price!
Thank you! Appreciate it a ton. And yeah I think it's VERY comparable to the um2 for that use case, and honestly... Between the two... I like this more.
@@ObscureMics can you help me with one thing I have a budget and there are three interfaces that are falling under my budget : audiobox go, focusrite 2i2 2nd gen, m track duo Which one should I get 😅😅
If it was me, I'd probably grab the Scarlett. I don't think either of the other two devices are as well built... And neither are better than it at anything.
im not sure if you will be seeing this but i need some advice, i just got this and i used a bm800 with a dynamic mic capsule mod with it but the volume seems to be very low even though the gain nob is maxed out is there something im doing wrong?
@@ObscureMics i have used the capsule on a usb mic before and it sounded fine on that one but after putting the capsule into the bm800 and plugging it into this audio interface its really quiet (this is my first ever audio interface)
@@ObscureMics just tried an xlr to 3.5mm jack and it seems to be slightly louder compared to an xlr to xlr hmmm anyways thanks so much for replying i will try rewiring it and see how it goes
Check your sound in windows (assuming you are using windows) and make sure mic I put volume is up.....also turn up your volume in windows up....I'm testing an interface now and couldn't hear myself....turned windows volume up and that was the issue....never had that happen.
q12 vs fifine SC3 (minus the gimmicks of the sc3)? I got the fifine SC3 and K669D and found on the dynamic setting on the back, half gain it overloaded the preamp and I got a lot of clipping even though I was only hitting -20db ish in obs. I don't see a lot of reviewers testing loudness that a interface can handle ever and I think its something that should be tested tbh.
Hard to say sc3 when the q12 is half the price and possibly better. Like the idea of loudness testing...but im not sure of how to set the "standard" on such a test
@@ObscureMics It's kind of you to reply but I fail to extract any meaning from it. I gather from another video that on one positions it send ch1 to L & ch2 to R & in the other position ch1 & ch2 both go to L & R ie. mono
@@ObscureMics should I get this, the um2 or the m audio track solo. I can maybe spend upto the scarlett solo or the audient evo 4 but most likely to get those. So what do you recommend for the podmic
I'd probably go in audio solo.... but it's really close between that and the taune if you want to save a little bit of money I don't think one is much worse than the other
Is there no monitor switch, I just sometimes want to use the headphone connected to the audio interface and I don't wanna hear my own voice from the mic.
Hello, im new to this and have no idea what driver im supposed to download or if i even need one but this is the interface i have, can you help me out?
44.1 kHz is all we have ever used in fm radio for 30 years as that what humans hear. 48 is a bonus, 96 be better. Your numbers are all wrong, it doesn’t have 60db of gain. There is a video explaining exactly what it has got, a guy Chris pulled it apart and tested it. I have one here with no branding on, it’s handy.
For voice microphone, it's okay. But for Guitar with VST Effects, latency is so much to the point that it's useless. I have tested with 2 decent Computer with Windows 10.
I have been looking for a cheap audio mixer to use because one I'm curious how mixer works and 2 I don't have 600-700 dollars to spend on the Rode Procaster and Procaster 2. So I'm really hoping that this is good
This is kind of the most basic mixer ever as far as being a "mixer" since there's no EQ or effects. It's basically an audio interface but is considered a mixer since it all goes to one track. It's well worth $29
@@ObscureMics it's amazing how a 29 dollar basic mixer is better than a 79 dollar audio interface it's better than I expected and I will make sure to put my headphones in my computer when I buy this
Double dipping on the comments. I respectfully recommend you clarify with your subscriber base that this is not aj interface that works with a DAW like what DIY Studio-Studs typically look for. There are several complaints due to false product descriptions.
@ObscureMics reviews aren't specific. But they say it's just a mixer, it doesn't work with DAWs. If you have no issues then perhaps they aren't utilizing their rig correctly. I was hoping to plug my guitar in or my amps effect loop "Send" into it and record through Waveform.
what about for live streaming...? in the amazon comments, someone said that it has heavy latency, and lags, not usable for live streaming... i have it in my cart, i'm just waiting for someone to say it doesn't have any latency... LOL...
I wonder if it works directly on ios using a camera connection kit (dongle) or it would need a powered usb hub, mmmh! My mother in law wants to record a podcast using her cell phone (iphone) but don’t want to invest, so I’m trying to find some dirt cheap ‘Obscure solutions’ haha
