@@MisterDispenserThey probably don't bother all that much. Cuz if they did, they would AT LEAST, add cosmetics that goes in a set. Some sets of 3 or 4 cosmetics gets added but don't add the last bit of the set that goes with em, which is fuckin dumb as hell.
Part of my problem with this case is not that all the cosmetics are "bad" per-say, but there is a lot of retreading old ground. We already have a criminal Spy, a jester scout, a stickybomb hat for demo, 1 million wizard hats, and a demon skull on the mercs head. If you combined all the recycled items with the "bad" items, then you start to realize how little this case offers.
Well thats true. But some are better versions, like the sticky bomb one. And I especially like the jester. The card-theme on the mask just hits the right spot for me
I agree completely with the demo set, however The spy set feels different than say the Harmburglar, It is more like 1940s like. So it kinda works in my opinion.
I think the problem comes down to that players don't want yet another cosmetic to muddy the waters just because it's better than its counterpart.@@MisterDispenser
Just because the game has a lot of bad cosmetics it doesn't mean that we should keep adding them and not Halloween restrict very Halloween restrictable items, this cosmetics are bad except for the demo one.
the last mask you shown for all classes. Ill gona say its creppy af,. I play DR alot and ther is player with this on. Men he giveing me creeps everytime hes around me.,
Do you know what I believe we need more of? Brimmed Hats. Specifically, more Brimmed hats from Halloween that Aren’t Halloween Restricted. Like, for example: The Trial By Fire Hat. It was Supposed to be in Scream Fortress, but it isn’t, and it’s now very Unlikely that It ever will be in TF2 now. I mean, it’s such a Good hat, and yet, No one Cares. All Hats like Top Hats, Bowler Hats, Capotain hats, and all other brimmed hats of the sort are Great, but now a days, people just don’t care. That’s why there are Terrible Cosmetics. It’s because Good Hats are being outshined by terrible cosmetics that for some reason gain more traction.
Men, I don't know why you're complaining so much, it's fucking Halloween, this is about horror, costumes and being edgy, half of the cosmetics have restrictions, so stop crying about the aesthetics and art of the game, which is something that not even Valve itself respects since It's been many years and the bots are still out there.
huh? Where did you get that from. I basically said that I don't understand the outrage over the crate, yet here you are kinda talking mean to me for no reason? Did you watch the vid?
there was also some talk about how the demonic dome “looks too much like the onimann” and like… i guess. i don’t think it’s as much of a big deal as they think it is. it’s like a team captain vs. mean captain sorta thing imo. there has been a really comically negative energy plaguing this community for a while now, usually festering in r/tf2 or twitter and propagated by certain community figures. but man, they is just grasping at straws rn.
@@MisterDispenser the whole "we already have something similar" thing with modern cosmetics isn't really that big of a deal here. like, the elf hat spam of smissmas updates, that's where the argument is justified and has solid ground. here it feels sorta forced. and otherwise, a lot of the other complaints i have seen about this case have been really straw-graspy.
My main issue is that there’s absolutely tons of objectively fantastic cosmetics on the workshop that fit the mercenary and the artstyle of the game, and instead we get, this stuff
I think the shortness of breath was a pretty good pick. You do definitely have a really good point and something else sad is that there’s so many good taunts like the Cheers! one as an example.
If you put the Dead Heat and the Splitting Headache together it does make for a really good look. I get your rating tho a cosmetic should be able to stand on it's own.
The thing is, Old school players should know that Scream Fortress was never about adding new content for base TF2. It was always about the halloween restricted maps and items. Its more of a vibe than a full content update. I couldnt really care less about the cosmetics. Those are just a bonus.
Thats very true. Also, one thing just popped into my head. What if we could get the Halloween restricted hats, that they add every year into the game as a bonus for unboxes, also in the marasmissions. Maybe so that after a year of only being able to get unboxed, that one specific hat gets added
I mean cosmetics and new maps are literally the only life support this games receives currently, with no real updates ofc people are going to be more critical, all they're doing is stealing cosmetics from the workshop anyway, not like they could just pick them better
Here is the thing- all of the cosmetics have something to dislike. The halloween cosmetics (like Ogre Heavy and Spy head) are way too halloweeny. Yeah- they look good- but you can add an insanely detailed skin for the game (like a reaper reskin for spy if you want) and it will still suck because it just sicks out as a sore thumb. The ones that are less Halloweeny are more generic or just "we had this years ago". The spy criminal hat from before is the exact same as Le Criminal. People want something that is unique but not a joke with how "spooky" it is. Something that is high quality, well done, thoughtful, and fits in the style but not too out there isn't a huge request I think. The artstyle has been "dead for long" isn't a good argument. That's like pouring gasoline on a burn victim because "they've been burned before". If you can stop the bleeding- then stop it. As for me - I think certain items are good but most are middle of the road or just awful. The ogre heavy is repulsive and I despise it- but I am one of the rare few who thinks the Elite Grade all class is actually good. It's out there - sure - but that's why its elite. Honestly- the main reason I like it is because it makes me feel like Shao Kahn from Mortal Kombat. My proposal - Make the common, kind of rare, and rare stuff fit the art style. Make the Pinks out there, but nothing insane (think the Payday mask- perfect example). And, finally, make the elite tier either insanely badass or insanely out of style- make elite tier FEEL like elite tier. A good example of that would be the banana hat for silly and the dead head for badass. I'd give the case a 5. It's mid. Theres some high highs (Payday Mask stands out a lot and Madcap for real), and low lows (Heavy, Spyder, Sawblade pyro). I hope we can have a discussion on this, it's a very interesting topic!
First of all, thank you for the long comment! Second, I totally see what you mean, but I think the halloween themed crate this time actually works, because we got a summer update behind us, that was focusing on normal cosmetics. If it was only this crate, I would be more pissed too. The artstyle argument I said more as a realization, also there is already a huge selection of hats to choose from. And then again people never questioned the other crates before this one too much, there was a smissmas one people really didn't like, but that was not because of the artstyle, but more because it was only elfs... So yeah, I get what you mean, and I agree with some points, but it's weird that people are really pissed at a few more silly cosmetics.
@@MisterDispenser I personally think the reason people are mad now is because we "got used" to being upset. The smissmass stuff was always way over the top, and from what I've seen people tend to hate the winter crates. Nobody buys them, the unusuals from them are cheap, nobody uses them- people unbox but they'd unbox literal trash if you gave them the chance. Thing is- last years winter crate came out and was shockingly great. Every item, even the more silly ones, could work year round in some degree. Then the summer update came out- and it was actually fantastic items across the board again. I think people felt like they had a glimmer of hope- the idea that "Valve is actually going back to standard this time and trying to find good items instead of purely summer and christmas stuff". Then they drop this - cases with insanely halloweeny stuff- and it feels like a slap of reality. They got their hopes up for positive changes and then got the pyro sawblade hat as a reward for good faith. While i'm somewhere in the middle- I can also firmly say that certain hats being all year hats (sawblade pyro, ogre heavy, spy's spider head, and power spike) should have been Halloween restricted. Far less insane things in the past have been restricted that- today - would be blue grade. I fully understand liking the case, especially since the last couple were fantastic, but keep in mind that the last 3 years have felt very gimmicky and tacky for a lot of people- I am sure their sigh of relief quickly turned into a sigh of defeat at seeing spy's casket taunt.
honestly, if you ask me, it aint a bad selection to me, i will admit a couple of them are misses, like the Ogre Heavy Head and engies set (though i grew to that one cause i see it as Turbo-Man), but for hte most part, im really okay with waht we got this year. If im being honest, the Clown's Coverup sold me on the cosmetics this year, but that may be bias. The Six eyed Specs i didn't like either until i got the idea of using it for a sorta Cyberpunk Hat, wearing it with some kinda hat and the second style of Le Professional.
First of all, we call them "Taunts" in this house. Second, yes, the Crypt Creeper is amazing. You can legit hide in the weirdest places with it, it blends so well with the halloween maps
In my opinion if they would had looked at the workshop during at anytime in September and not just 1 day before the update and would had spent more than 10 minutes picking the items, they would have seen the ghostbuster medic set or the captain america soldier set for example or any cosmetics on the first 5 pages would had been better than what we got. Those are still around the first few pages, while the likes of what we got are not even in the first 30 after a few days. It's like they picked the least liked cosmetics and ignored the good ones on purpose, I haven't seen half of the cosmetics and I'm voting on items everyday. Most of the cosmetics we got are just either poorly made, boring or straight up just doesn't fit the artstyle. I especially dislike the medic goku hair and bandages set. That ogre head and saw inside pyro's head too are ugly and soulless and the fact that they are not even restricted is ridiculous. Looking back 2017 and 2018 had awesome cosmetics and I think I know why. Tf2 still had like 12 people working on it and they probably decided together and someone in the tf2 team clearly cared about the artstyle, too bad he is not coming back to pick the cosmetics anymore. In the summer update I thought they finally knew what most people want, not wacky, only allclass or remakes/variants of old cosmetics. I just hope they only did the wacky stuff for Halloween and the smissmass case will have winter cosmetics instead of more reindeer, elf, gift, random object or santa hats. Wacky is fine as long as it's ~10% of a case, not 90% bruh
The only cosmetics I like is probably that new demo set, not the biggest fan of the mad lad due to how huge it is, I don’t really like the other cosmetics.
I can atleast agree with this video partner, although I won’t like none of the cosmetics in this case. To be particularly specific the Goku medic hair just seems off for some reason, looks very clunky like a giant rock like carving. The org head for heavy should really just be Halloween restricted like a lot of cosmetics. The saw blade for pyro, it’s just lazy. The demo goat head, I hate it. But that’s not to say there are a few gems. Particularly the demo set looks nice, same with the scout jester set and even the wizard theme set for sniper.
For the splitting headache hat at 2:26 I feel that maybe they could have at least added more by maybe making pyros head into a wooden replica of pyros head, so it looks like the saw is cutting through wood, and that could even make it kinda look like it’s referencing the sawmill map.
Putting the Splitting Headache with the Creatures Grin for pyro kinda works plus adding the Eye See You eyes makes it even more cursed for my Halloween loadout this year
Honestly the biggest offender is the stuntman/biker helmet thing, there are way too many of essentially the same exact hat, and its arguably just... Bad, both uniquely and for unusual-wise.
I think there is reasonable grounds to dislike artstyle breaking cosmetics like the Dead Heat, even though we have things like the Filamental etc. This case has mostly decent-good hats, I agree, but we still get trash items or items that don't fit the artstyle. I think taking the time to understand the game's artstyle would help you see why people dislike some of these hats. (Yes the LLL hat sucks, I blame valve for not adding the neon lights tool to combo with it.)
Dead heat is literally PY-40 but not Halloween restricted. Its so stupid. Make ogre workshop page SAYS "INTENDED TO BE HALLOWEEN RESTRICTED" and power spike is just horrible.
0:28 you know it's because of the chose of valve for adding it because as you can see there is a lot of hilarious and perfect stuff and community, but they're at some of the few I'm not saying yeah all of them bad but yeah a lot of people hate it (also why I'm talking about this, I'm free to play!)
People are getting too dramatic over these. Only bad ones I see is the orc, the saw-hawk for pyro and probably the neon tube fedora being modeled poorly, but still a nice concept and not too stupid like... train on head or cardboard. I get that some complaints are that it's all just too halloween themed. But it's not like all the cosmetics are only fitting for halloween. Demo's set looks fantastic over all. Soldier's mask is a good filler for plenty of military sets. Soldier' cape and the jester outfit may be halloween af but still fit regularly imo. They look badass. I do hope we get cosmetics from all seasons, maybe easter update? So we get plenty of basic cosmetics as well.
I would love to see more weapon extensions like the neon lights. My favorite way to make my weapons feel special is of course already with warpaints and festivizers, but what is there were just more festivizers so you could make your weapons extra special.
they're good with many being some I wanted though im still a lil dissapointed cause many of the ones I wanted the most werent added(like that knight helmet with an eye inside)
The only thing I hate about the update so far is the Goku Medic hair. It looks too off in my opinion. Jojo hats atleast felt a bit fitting while doesn’t felt out of place. Compare to Goku Medics I think it would be better if the eye’s doesn’t glow with the hair. As it is looks alright with other cosmetic combos. But in terms of the eyes glowing is doesn’t looks right at all.
People complain about Halloween cosmetics that they can only use during a holiday whose prime tradition consists of people wearing a costume that only fits during said holiday. This logic is ludicrous. Of course Halloween cosmetics are going to look out of place during the rest of the year BECAUSE THEY’RE HALLOWEEN-THEMED.
@@MisterDispenser Thanks for your reply, I just got back from vacation so I'm responding late. Clearly we don't see eye to eye regarding this case but since you asked, I'll let you know my personal opinions. I feel that this case is simply a step backwards from the previous summer and winter updates. The cosmetics are clearly more wacky and less atuned to the games artstyle. I feel like the main counter-argument to this is "Oh its Halloween, things are allowed to be more wacky" and if this was a stand-alone theme for one year, I would let it slide. But it seems as though almost every single Halloween case has been wacky, colorful and childish which has made this years lineup even more redundant. I think I saw a comment somewhere of a person mentioning "ask yourself how often are you really going to be using these cosmetics after halloween" and I think that is a really good observation. A lot of the items in this case should've been limited to the full-moon restriction, I don't need TF2 looking like fortnite. I can't speak for others but I grew up with this game which I picked up in 2011. But it feels like the game is getting less "mature" in its cosmetic items over the past few years which doesn't make sense to me. Like a good TV show, characters have arcs that grow and progress as the show goes on. If TF2 was a TV show and the cases were its characters, it almost seems as the characters are getting more annoying, iritable and less needed of respect. Its a shame in my opinion. I know my reply has been more general than speaking about literal specific items for the case, so in terms of that, I find the elites very dissapointing, they cover the faces of the mercenaries and changes them into different characters (demonic dome for instance). I love TF2, I love the 9 mercs, I want to see them, I don't want to equip something that changes what they look like completely. The rest of the cometics are "goofy" and redundant. It feels like I've seen everything before in previous years but valve just changed it up a little. Putting some glitter on shit, is still shit. Anyway, sorry for being brash in my first comment. But it really pisses me off to see people normalize this garbage as it leads to incentivizing more of this crap.
@@BLOSSOMxCHARGER Yeah, I can totally see your view. Still, I think cosmetic wise the game has been going into another direction for a long time. And while I always enjoy new cases, in the long run I stick to my cosmetics that I like, and all the other ones I find ugly, I just don't care or do not look at. Especially with the influx of more and more cosmetics, there are already plenty of other cosmetics to choose from. Maybe I am just not as interessted in them or have as strong as an opinion as I used to, but I just never really get too angry at new hats anymore. Like the winter 2021 I think it was, was really bad, bc of only elf cosmetics, thats bad, but here we have a veriaty of hats, some outlandish, some decent, some bad. But yeah, in the end, sadly the artstyle is pretty dead, and the TF-Workshop creators seem to go into the direction of "references" over og ideas more and more
I hope we get more Demo cosmetics like the Stunt Suit and Mad Lad. Also I agree with you on most of the cosmetics, but I do kinda like the Demonic Dome, but hey you do you! (I’m sorry if this sounded like I was being douchey)
@@MisterDispenser Mmhmm. And also what if they added more Robot Demo cosmetics to along with the Alcoholic Automaton so that we can get a full Robot Demo loadout? It’d be perfect; we already have a robot reskin of the fro, the Battery Bandolier (which are the MVM robot Demo’s grenades), and the Alcoholic Automaton like I mentioned before. (also I don’t know why I’m so obsessed with a robot head cosmetic for the Demo)
This case fits the bill of the intentions of case design after sf 2014, mostly unrestricted halloween costumes to wear for halloween that you can wear offseason if need be. But the bigger issue was the fact that the update was rushed worse than expected and I like to theorize that it was due to Counter Strike 2 having a very buggy release and the focus to make sure it is running okay.
@@MisterDispenser What i meant is that a big nose and pointy ears can easily be bought around stores. So it makes it seem more costume like. The ogre face for Heavy not so much.
@@MisterDispenser even then, the snipers can simply adapt to the hitboxes, the spy has bugged hitboxes when disquised, as he retains his small hitbox even when disquised as a heavy, who is nearly twice as tall
I feel like most of the cosmetics are simply either really bad or have no place in TF2 at all.. or, of course.. should be halloween restricted at least. And well.. in this video you did not even touch on the unusual effects, cause oh boy, they picked some stinkers (except nightmarish storm, that one I do tolerate).
I personally only like the shortness of breath out of all the cosmetics that were added, because uh, guys look, it's that guy from the funny lambda game spinoff, isn't that crazy. and maybe that one soldier cape, but it doesn't fit into my loadouts so it's going in the trash can but overall this case is fine I think
not gonna lie, i like the classic criminal the only issue is the painting, witch can turn this cosmetic into a way for blending in the enemies without team recognition, and the body set should be halloween only
i liked some of the cosmetics for this update to be honest, considering how they inproved compared to the hats from previous updates, lets hope for more good hats for the smissmass yay!
