It's interesting to see the actual results of this much crafting. It seems like your luck was actually pretty good with an 18% profit rate, I figured it to be about 12% average. Sad you didn't profit from it though
I took to crafting hats instead of trading a few years ago. It actually makes the drop system a bit more rewarding when you consider that it effectively guarantees a hat "Drop" after 54 weapons. Though honestly, not engaging with traders is kind of its own reward these days.
@@steelemerald300for real I will spend hours grinding for materials to craft one weapon and 10 seconds later I see the popup that someone else in the lobby got it from a drop.
my favorite thing about crafting is that you never know what you'll get, and with a lower cost than unboxing a hat, if you aren't going for unusuals or stranges, its my preferred method of tf2 gambling
The only thing I like about it is that I can just use the drops I receive just for playing and Craft hats once I get 3 ref and Im rly patient so I take my time... Also that I used all the Halloween restricted items to Craft hats cuz why not, I dont care about the profit ,no money spent
Keep up the content my dude, it's always a pleasure to see them as it perfectly tips the scales of entertaining and informational without ever getting boring or cringe. Props to you for every video you make! Never regretted subbing ever since I discovered you
I love crafting my own hats because of the “Crafted by username” line they get in the description. My “Crafted by Rare” Dead of Night is my most prized possession.
While it may not be profitable, I just like knowing what Cosmetics exists in the game. And who knows, you might find something you've never seen before that you might actually like.
Wonderful, that might not be considered as a funny number, but damn, it is even funnier. So, this man won the 60065, but even IN A SUIT WITH THEM, OH GOD.
As someone who has caught onto your videos pretty early into your RU-vid span I would be delighted to see you branching out, although I’ll probably love anything you put up
I actually have been crafting hats for most of my time in TF2, only rarely having a friend of mine get me specific items (since my w+m1 pyro was too dense to get into trading XD) and honestly, there is just a special feeling to wearing a cosmetic you crafted yourself.
"[The Dead of Night] is rarer then unboxing an unusual" So you're telling me, the other day, I crafted something rarer then an unusual???? fuck my life
I have been doing this for a while and I think there is one intersting thing that should be factored in. You can "rebuild headgear", which might be worth it with cheap cosmetics and could alter the profits.
At a large scale you could save a lot of refined metal by only purchasing craft hats and then using the two hats to rebuild headgear. When you consider that the worst craft hats are 1.33 ref you're saving the equivalent of 1 rec per craft hat and a slot of inventory space each time as long as you can get your hands on them for below 1.55 ref each
I craft hats every month or so, I been doing this since I started collecting Der Wintermantel, while I don't think I'll ever get 100%, I crafted a lot of good stuff and I just feel like crafting in general just gets a feeling of nostalgia, crafting hats used to the thing back in the day but now barely anyone does it, so seeing a video like this and telling people to waste their ref on crafting silly hats make me happy, sure you're more likely to lose profits but just give a nice feeling of classic tf2 and I feel everyone should do one big hat craft once in their tf2 life.
Honestly, you're probably one of the most pleasant makers of tf2 content on RU-vid I've come across. Your MvM stuff has been invaluable in reinvigorating my motivation to play. So, if you feel like experimenting with other facets of the game, go for it. If it helps make playing the other modes on offer easier to grasp or more fun, all the better. Just wanted to state my appreciation for what you've already done for the rest of us.
I would have loved to get a crafted # (ex #.45 out of 1,000 or so) Plus the Dead of Night works well with almost every cosmetics you throw at it... Also RIP
I just crafted a team captain yesterday, more fun than doing unboxings half the time just because you're guaranteed to get SOMETHING interesting, and if not, just craft it into another hat if you don't want it and maybe get something better
Maybe it's not worth it financially, but I still craft hats because I like all the old cosmetics. The fact that it's a forgotten mechanic whose pool hasn't been touched in half a decade actually works out to be its biggest strength for what I want. Plus I need something to do with all those weapon drops
Put a bit of money into MVM tickets, got an australium and sold it for tickets and some refined. Been crafting a hat each time I log in with that metal since then. I guess I'm with you on the hat craft grind
I put a bit of money into MVM tickets, got a specialized killstreak kit for the kunai and postal pummeler, I didn't have enough parts to make any of the other ones.
I got an Orange KS Kit of an AWP and turned it into the kit itself and sold it for like $25 and then the 2 tours I did after that I got an Orange Iron bomber kit so I am ruining my gambling addiction recovery
Crafting hats is "fun" I've done it numerous times, I did record myself crafting hats I'd prefer to craft hats then wasting time with an unusual(s)... Cool you have a hat with some particles attached on it, that's work maybe 1/2 of your rent or car payment... IDK, Also you don't see many youtube videos on TF2 Hat Crafting much anymore....
I once crafted a pair of bucks. And this was when they were added to the game. They cost like 4 keys at the time, which was probably 28 refined back then.
I've been slowly self crafting my items for a while now. It hasn't been a major concern but Its that little bit of satisfaction from knowing you're the only one to have it ever
In my ~2k hours of tf2 the only cosmetics I use are the gibus and pyro goggles. Maybe crafting a bunch of my own cosmetics would be a good way to branch out.
I wonder how much refined the average "self-craft" challenge would take if you considered the possibility of re-crafting duplicate hats. You have 491 unique hats, which leaves 519 duplicates, which is 518 more crafting opportunities.
There should be a collectors log option that keeps track of all the items you ever crafted and received from boxes. May even revitalize the motive to make hats.
So I did this a few months ago but I only put in 300 ref roughly $13 or so and I was able to get cosmetic items to fill out every class A-D slot without any duplicate items on my characters so if you’re wanting to get some new cosmetics for cheap it’s honestly pretty good
"I can confidently say that I am the only person on the *planet* who can claim ownership to Dell Conagher's tig ol' biddies" This sentence is spectacularly cursed out of context.
Forget the profit for a sec At least you can get hats without spending a single euro, just rely on drops and once you get 3 ref, craft a hat And even use the Halloween restricted items if you can, sure they are non tradeable but free hat you get
i was just using up the rest of my like around 20 refined metal and i got the "Buck Turner All-Stars" and i did not know that they were like 30 scrap worth, i couldve gotten a unusual for that percentage...
2:17 i literally got a dead of night, heat of winter (20 ref) a sub zero suit (13ref) and the all father (11 ref), it was fun ad knowing that the dead of the night was rarer than a unusual was kinda great to know edit: i kept crafting hats and end up getting another dead of night a back turner among a couple of cosmetics that were 12-20 ref
its a better deal to take your key and craft 20 odd hats than it is to unbox it. So if you prefer just having random hats dropped in to your lap, so far, a supermajority of my hats have been crafted just on that basis.
Honestly, considering you can just (slowly) gather enough scrap to make ref, this is often better than spending it most ways. Certainly better less risk than unboxing considering you haven't spent a time.
how 2 craft: option 1: buy metal option 2: grind for metal step 1: craft - 2 options: buy cosmetics. Craft cosmetics (100 refined metal to actually get the hat you want) step 2: be broke or lifeless step 3: you crafted funny hats
im still mad about the fact that i managed to craft both the *Buck Turner All-Stars* and *Dead of night* but since the metal i had left was fucking untradable now i cant trade them
One of my pals will just randomly craft hats and give then out to his subscribers that want them; doing stuff like this on a mass scale could be a good way to actually help the economy
