TF2 Funny Summer Workshop Review (It's bad ok) 

Probably gonna make a follow up explaining what a good hat is. To put it simply; if you can combo it with other miscs and cosmetics and it looks well it’s good. But there a lot more to it.

I love how there's been an increasing volume in criticism about workshop items that is mostly universally accepted by the community of which those items are meant for, but are perceived as vitriolic by the workshoppers those criticism are meant for, creating this massive disconnect right now.

3:00 its an elden ring reference. Its about one player soloing the hardest bosses without any armor hence why you see soldier with no clothes on in the pictures.

This is pretty much the reason why Pyro has so many cosmetics with little cohesion or synergy. A wash of cosmetics that only got put on Pyro because “goofy head replacement”. Meanwhile, Pyro has maybe three generic coat-like items, that provide a myriad of loadouts. The only class that gets anything generic anymore is Scout, when Soldier frequently goes through droughts.

Well, at least the Flatliner in summer 2020 was good, i love that thing

TF2 Emporium had some of the best items back then, its sad that they turned into wacky meme item emporium

Cosmetics aside, or not, what I want to see is more story content, like I remember seeing the whole Demoman and Merasmus Halloween stuff back when it came out and I was in love with it. While just looking at the mercs as whoo-hoo wacky soldiers is fun, I want more MvM type stuff, stories that expends the universe.

The pot hat for solly is a reference to a player in elden ring who is named something like "let me solo her". He puts his sign down in front of that redhead knight and solos her, only with the pot and dual katanas. The guy has become famous in the community

CLASSIFIED TF2 FILES NO [REDACTED] STATUS: IN PROGRESS Starting date: December 2021 After the fiasco of Smissmas 2021, some community members started to fight against and critize workshoppers which they are making bad cosmetics. It worked on some workshoppers, but some are still refusing their behaviors, they can go further against those members like deleting their comments or blocking them. Only god knows what will happen but with a high chance, Valve is going to use their fingers on incomming Summer 2022 case.

The jarhead cosmetic was a reference to a elden ring meme of someone named "let me solo her" who has no armor on and 2 swords (not saying it should be in tf2 tho)

Here's the problem, both the creators and valve are at fault with this, the creators making ridiculious/copycat cosmetics are doing it for revenue/fame, while valve is willing to add it.

it's always all class because they believe that'll inflate the unusual value and so they can wear the self-made one on every single class, the workshop and at least 80% of it's submitters are an absolute embarrassment

Also the mass of ugly,useless,stupid,dumb,boring unusuals that straightly tells "i want to make a quick dolla using some particles over a head" So fricking MANY.

The worst part is that alot of these people have made some really great things that have gotten into the game, they just realised they don’t always have to put in effort because valve will probably come back to them next year anyway. I’d suggest reading into lore and comics and see what you could reference for the classes and the game in general, there is an ocean of potential; walk the extra mile.

The problem with these cosmetics is valve quickly goes for "crazy-wacky-themed" cosmetics rather than actually spending time, sitting down, and looking at cosmetics that people WILL actually use, therefore it creates this notion among workshop creators that if they create a (ridiculous) hat that will please what Valve is looking for, the cosmetic has a higher chance to be added to the game and they get to have a 'Self-made' variant of their cosmetic (especially the all class hats) and get paid for what they created. This just keeps looping around as time goes by and the good cosmetics will get thrown under a pile of bad cosmetics which Valve continues to choose.

Shoutout to the 100% very good hat that is literally just upward

Honestly wouldn't mind the Gentlemann's Generic It may be an all-class but we don't have a basic top hat cosmetic apart from the Scottish Stovepipe Also it actually fits the artstyle and would work well in many loadouts

"X" food on head might be one the laziest workshop concepts.

The Pot Head looks like it belongs in Roblox or a Lego head, NOT TF2.

The real problem is that this has been a growing issue for years. Creators are making hats that: Don't fit into the game despite looking good, don't make any sense for being all-class considering the design, make unoriginal cosmetics that are are occasionally just reskins of other cosmetics, lazy hats that don't have as much effort as they seem, or make hats just to get popular without actually having the passion former creators did. Valve is also at fault because they don't think about the cosmetics they accept. They just accept what is thrown at them from specific creators. Genuinely good cosmetics get passed over for some reason.

As much as I love the cosmetic that's a reference to Van Darkholme, the VAST MAJORITY of TF2's audience these days is not going to know what Gachimuchi is.

They don't want a hat for people to wear, they want a crown for themselves

I am an artist and I've been drawing for 5 years now. I can't imagine deleting comments with criticism, they're supposed to steer you into right direction and help you grow. If you delete them it seems pretty clear that you don't care about people's feedback and have a specific selfish goal in mind such as in this case: getting a cosmetic they made to become official in their favourite game no matter how good it really is. It was a fun video Monkey I enjoy your commentaries, knowing that English isn't your native language you can express yourself rather well! And thanks for the game on Mercenary Park it was fun until the autobalance happened.

The Meal Mishap is literally the classic Halloween paper bag hat but with sandwich ingredients glued on it lmao

Jarhead is a reference to a legendary Elden Ring player character simply named "Let Me Solo Her", who basically sat in front of the hardest boss in the game waiting for someone to summon him, and then proceed to solo kill her while she has double hp from scaling. This also done while completely naked save for a pot on his head.

I find it kind of funny that one of the fall backs I’ve seen multiple times that these people say is something like “Life and all of this is meaningless, go outside. Why are you upset when it doesn’t matter.” Even if it’s some sort of joke, it’s pretty sad if that’s your come back to criticism in any way.

I hold zero positive expectations for Summer. I'm hoping they just don't add a new case.

I don't understand your hate for almost every hat in the video, they're not good but they're not that bad. It's a silly game is it not okay to have silly hats that don't have to make sense?

The problem with most of the hats are either; pure laziness, out of touch design, or just lacking the general heart and spirit of TF2. It doesn't help either that Valve likes to add just parts of some item sets too which makes it feel incomplete.

Alright so, "The Little Chef" would be perfectly fine as a multi-class for four classes and heres why. Scout: He looks skinny and wimpy looking like Linguini. Pyro: They already have various chefware outfits and this looks adorable on him. Medic: same as pyro except for the cuteness. Spy: Weakest here, but because he's french which is the movie's location, and thusly making it a fitting hat for him. Otherwise, yeah this hat doesn't fit for the other 5 for one reason and/or another.

I love how folks now a days think critisizem is being mean. Critisizem is meant to help point out flaws of one's making. Being told it's lazy or boring is proper critisizem. Folks who make a reference item is trying to get a specific audience to enjoy it, but theyre not allowed to piss their pants when the cosmetic is looked at face value and critiqued.

If you want a honest opinion from a long time viewer? I prefer this kind of videos, the gameplays are fun but this in my opinion is where you shines my man, a honest opinion, straight for the guts of this weak ass creators, nailing with the right tone, so keep doing this reviews and more, i love your content.

I do like the critism on the cosmetics but you're more so just boiling each thing down to "object on head". Making such a broad category isn't really good criticism. Like, it's fine to criticize people, but in the way you're doing it is saying "hey, this looks like shit idiot, do better". Sure tf2 workshop creators do need to do better, but you're being too bitter imo, you should try to help and not just shit on them.

Can we actually have good cosmetics this time around without lazy remakes please valve

While you made some good points on how making hats that are flowers and food are pretty boring, I feel like you didn't show many good examples of what you consider to be a good cosmetic. At best you showed three and spent the rest of the time complaining about what you consider to be boring, generic, or bad cosmetics. If you want people to understand what you're coming from, you should showcase cosmetics that are actually good in your eyes. It's a somewhat informative video, sure, but there's just nothing to back your point other than like three cosmetics you showed for a solid 20 seconds total and one warpaint.

I think you're right, and I definitely agree with you on a lot of workshop hats being uninspired or not matching the character. However, I do feel like I have to say, though your criticism is just it's worded rather crudely. I mean, I could certainly imagine feeling attacked seeing a comment like what you're saying in this video. When people feel attacked, they'll do stuff like deleting comments, because they feel like the guy attacking them is unjust. If you actually want to leave criticism that won't be deleted you'll always have a higher chance by calmly and gently writing down what you think.

I'll tell you why so many cosmetics are food or references to TF2 shorts: Lowest common denominator. With the mindset of a corporate marketing shill, these people assume that if they make something everyone can recognise, they're more likely to get upvoted. Nevermind that the work is poo poo.

im open for discussion, id love to know what is wrong with most of these cosmetics. i personally like the funny hats like the sniper piss jar beer hat or the soldier rocket head. is it just because its whacky and out of place? i would love to know what people think

I'm pretty sure some workshop creators make ugly, out of character hats just to spite naysayers who leave "mean comments" or "talk negatively" about their other works. A little trolling, if you will. Problem with that is the fact that they're generally the top dogs who have years of cosmetic making under their belts, and plenty of self made cosmetics stached in their inventory. The intern that picks out a few cosmetics for the seasonal update will probably go back to them, someone Valve has worked with on multiple occasions, rather than someone new. Thus, the cycle repeats. Ugly hats get added, the community gets upset, the workshoppers think it's funny and wish to piss the community off more.

I followed was in a Discord group like this. A lot of it was "hey I have an idea" and they'd make it regardless of what it was or if it really "fit" TF2. There are a lot of cosmetics and items that don't fit TF2 already in the game (like the Deus Ex stuff), but the overall feel for a lot of their work was "okay but why tho?" Spy's little Christmas tree mask is a great example of this. It's a dumb cosmetic that doesn't make any sense for the Spy. What people really do nowadays is meme cosmetics because...of course. The Jojo's Bizzare Adventure stuff for Heavy for example. Why does it exist? Cuz memes. People complain about the death of TF2's style but if the best Valve's been tossing us is community-made hats and skins, then we kinda gotta give some of the blame to the workshoppers. IDK. I'm at the point that TF2 doesn't need content updates, just maintenance, and cases really only keep the server cost down nowadays. It seems most workshop cosmetic makers make whatever they want cuz Valve *might* just add it straight up, and any time someone says "yeah this isn't good or interesting", they act like it's an attack on their very being and how we should lick their boots for "keeping TF2 alive."

Instead of showing all the bad cosmetics can you make a video highlighting all the good items put on the Workshop, give them a bit of love.

The Workshop has become a fucking joke. Thanks to Valve promoting "crazy-wack-haha-bababooey" cosmetics, but also thanks to the greed of creators. 99% of all new cosmetics that get added into the game are over-the-top, don't fit the artstyle, are irrealistic, and say nothing about the class wearing them. WHY WOULD A SPY WEAR A POTTED PLANT ON HIS HEAD WHAT DOES THAT TELL ME ABOUT SPY? *WHAT?*

The thing is... the Workshop creators are as "imaginative" as Valve are at this point. The Sniper says "piss" a lot? Let's make him throw actual piss at people! So naturally the community picks up the policy of narrowing the themes and makes sticky bomb themed hats for Demomen and camper van themed hats for Snipers. Like they cannot deviate too much from some unseen guidelines... Oh, Emporium, whatever that is. I see.

yknow i get your point, but i like some of those hats. despite how unoriginal some might be, they still look like people took time and efforts to make them

90% of workshop submissions are just “what if we put [wacky, loosely themed item] on mercenary’s head?” Little to no effort put into making it stylistically match or integrating the item into an actual hat. Like, wow, that’ll be so good for that one dude on 2fort committing way too hard to a gimmick set and literally no one else. It’s lazy, it’s uncreative, and worst of all, it doesn’t fit into any sort of loadout. If you can’t think of a single legitimate set that the cosmetic would not only work with, but compliment, the cosmetic is shit. Tough cheese, but that’s the truth.

Workshoppers haven't changed. Workshop creators have been creating wacky items since the workshop came out. What's changed is what valve has shown they have an interest in adding into the game. Workshoppers are still just doing what they've always done: making what they want.

I'm ashamed to be an adult and actually wanting to see Sniper drinking from Jarate, that's one of the very few crappy hats that I want to see, would be good for the piss loadout. This was a very good video overall, now I know where the problem comes from (I'm actually sorry about this)

Just gonna say that Valve as a head company has all and every option not to pick stuff that is "wacky". But they don't even look at items that are crazy high in quality and have been rotting in the workshop for ages. Valve keeps adding weird stuff and straight forward telling creators THAT'S what they want to see. And creators give Valve all those weird hats. Because this is a free market. Where people only offer the buyer (Valve in our case) stuff that is in demand. Easy as that. Stop roasting creators, cuz they simply adapt to valve's needs.
