TF2's Custom (and Cursed) HUDs 

Hey everyone! Thanks for such a great response on the video, I was really worried about how it would turn out considering this is so far off from my usual content but I'm glad to see the time i put in was worth it. I'm gonna use this pinned comment to kinda "respond" to a bunch of comments I've gotten. "You sound just like Soundsmith!" I personally don't hear it but I appreciate that a lot, SoundSmith is a super cool dude and a great content creator so I take that as a big compliment. "You forgot [insert HUD here]" There was a lot of HUDs I could have added into the video for sure but I really didnt want to make the video 30 minutes of just listing HUDs and repeating the same "it looks like default HUD but different" statement. I boiled it down to HUDs I was familiar with along with MiddleMann that had come out somewhat recently at the time of script writing. I do love seeing people talking about their favorite HUDs and giving suggestions so keep recommending some to everyone! "MaidCore was (broken because/looks inspired by/layout like Cruelty Squad)" I didn't actually know about most of what everyone has been telling me, I only noticed the Cruelty Squad thing because a friend of mine pointed it out once the video went up. I also didn't see anything about minmode having to be either off or on in the hud description and didn't think to check so if it was all broken because of that then that's totally my bad. Also if you haven't, you should play Cruelty Squad, the game is blacksuppositoried and debased. To cap this off though, when I put a hud in the "cursed" category, that is not to throw shade or any harassment towards the creators of any hud. I think if no one decided to make huds such as MaidCore, Shrek HUD, etc that the world of TF2's huds would be a more boring place. I love seeing huds like these despite me saying they are "cursed" because they are fun to play with and experience even if it's only for a short time. So it should go without saying but don't send any harassment to any creator of any hud you see here, this video was purely for fun and to talk about (while probably niche) a topic I enjoy when it comes to TF2. Thanks again everyone!

Using Shrek HUD as a daily driver, I can say that it is the best. I'd say I even got better at the game. PS: I've been using it for 3 months

the last hud is like playing while being overstimulated and your brain is screaming and you're also screaming

ive received a divine inspiration from watching this video. a true centered hud, where every ui element is centered on the screen, on top of the crosshair, no more zipping your eyes over the screen for anything. i must go forth and craft this hud, tweaked for optimal competitive play.

Thanks for mentioning my Maidcore Hud. I made it because I was completely bored with most huds and also Saw the layout brainfog used for his hud really inspired me for it. (also yes fuck damage numbers 😎)

The Shrek Hud is really good! The red Shrek head that appears when you have low health is a great way to quickly notice your health is low without having to focus on looking at your health as much.

I loved the part where Morbius said "We have to go to TF2!" and proceeded to morb all over 2Fort.

Thank you for covering my work. Up keeping flawhud, rays, fixes and the editor is all my TF2 time is spent on so it’s really nice to get recognized for that effort. ❤

Maid Core using the Cruelty Squad font flashbanged me, its style is definitely inspired by that game's HUD (which is to say deliberately hideous)

I don't even play TF2 and I watched this whole video and learned so much. Maybe too much. The cursed HUDs section was mwah chef's kiss 10/10 A+ great editing, very informative, would recommend to a friend

AYYYY thanks for covering budhud! it seems you were super thorough throughout this entire video too, which can be pretty rare when it comes to videos that cover custom huds. I know a lot of people lately have gotten tired of minimalist huds, so it's nice to hear when there's people who are still enjoying budhud (even if you're using xhud now..but I don't blame you, peaches makes great huds). I'm just a LITTLE biased, but I've tried swapping to other huds to see how the experience is different/what I can improve/etc and I really do just find myself getting pulled back to budhud lmao. I guess using it for like 10 years does that to you. I think your point about the simplicity of the hud enhancing the TF2 experience is something I've unknowingly been going for with budhud ever since I made it (especially because it was made when I was playing tf2 competitively). I've always leaned more towards minimalist huds instead of artistic huds, so I guess that's why budhud ended up being how it is :D nice video overall!

If you guys want a classic HUD for your big monitor I highly, HIGHLY recommend getting the Quakehud. It's sleak, it's simple, and the text is better to read with the aftermentioned big monitors.

my personal favorite (which is very recent) is the wierdcore hud. i just love the style and the intro is also a neat touch along with the loading screens

for a less cluttered looking centered hud, I've loved BXhud for years now. super clean and easy to read in your peripheral vision

I unironically have the comic sans hud and have had it for quite a while, i just like it.

honestly the shrek hud is really nice once you shrink some of the PNGs a bit. having a little pocket shrek screaming at you to get health is the best way to remember you're about to die. I also use it with a "what are you doin in my swamp" killsound and a "donkey" hitsound so I might just be insane though

no matter how much i keep switching huds i keep going back to rayshud, its an amazing hud with perrfect readabilty and a really cool theme

I had trouble just moving and resizing the 2d player class on bud hud and then you say bud hud makes editing the hud easy made myself really dumb. Love the video

Speaking of HUDs, I remember back in high school, I used a really nice one called FrankenHUD. It was clean, kept a similar visual feel to vanilla and had a really cool class select screen that looked like a numpad on a keyboard that looked really nice. I don't think it's been updated in years though. It's probably my favourite HUD mod of all time Currently, I'm using a modified ToonHUD I made called witchHUD which features a custom font I made myself as well as two purple hexagons that spin in opposite directions for a crosshair It's goofy but I really really like it since it's kinda mesmerising lmao

My favorite quote unquote "cursed hud" is DosHud. It just makes the game look like Doom/Duke Nukem and I love it. It's very difficult to play with cause it covers so much but its very fun.

That Maidcore HUD is actually a wonderful relic of ancient image boards. The maids are nijiura maids, a very niche subsect of ancient Japanese 2chan. What I'm amazed at is that this HUD came out like not even a year ago lol. I would unironically use this in comp.

I remember seeing that maid core one on gamebanana when looking for a hud which I'll edit when I look in my folder for which one it was, but it was pretty nice. I did think the maid core was a tad odd, but Im sure the concept of seeing anime girls during your tf2 session will be a novel to many.

Back in the day i used to use the "shellnut HUD" a HUD based on Sr Pelos TF2 In A Shellnut series, it was probably the worst thing i had ever used but i loved it, pretty sure it hasnt been updated since 2015 though so dont even know if it works now

that last one really was the gorbino quest of video game huds a side note is that there is a cruelty squad hud called "hope eradicated"

the maid core hud is based off of the Nijiura Maids, they make a genre of music called maidcore each their own twist if youd like to know more about them theres a wiki page

i deadass went "haha the anime girl health bar is a cruelty squad reference, with the tiny hp next to an obnoxiously big icon/anime girl" then i saw that the subtractions indicator was literally the cruelty squad font and i died laughing

I know nobody cares, but some HUDs I’ve liked using: ToonHUD - the first HUD I’ve ever used. A classic. AntsHUD - can customize with enabled_ folder SkyHUD - very nice background and simple layout There are probably more I can’t remember so uh yea

The fact that most of the cursed / joke HUDs are still semi-minimalist white font HUDs makes them so much funnier than they should be
