fun fact: even if you have a premium account in tf2 you cant use voice or text chat if your steam account isnt activated (meaning you have to spend at least 5 dollars on steam)
F2P's are the future of a game like tf2. Make fun of them all you want, but their fresh and new journey in tf2 is the reason tf2 has lasted for as long as it has for the most part. We were all f2ps and/or new at one point. They remind you the freshness of being new, and yeah, tf2 is a game, it's suppose to be fun.
F2P's are the heart and soul of the game, sure the bigger part of the community is also important but they do not care about the F2P's it's why I've always disliked the hate for random crits those crits are there so the little f2p gets a fun moment and levels the playing field.
This is incorrect. Team Fortress' gameplay, design philosophy and reputation is what makes it stand the test of time. It wasnt f2p for 4 years of its life and people put money on the table so f2ps could download the game and assume they should have major sway in the discussion with no respect to the history. I am a f2p and the numbers on servers went up, and then down. So many people were feeling ripped off and dissapointed, because they were. It wasnt hats or cartoonish art style, its that an experience made by adults for adults got taken over by lying children, then later down the line bots. F2p def get people coming, but its really odd when people show up to a party your throwing and tell you how your party sucks because it isnt theirs.
@@christiangottsacker6932 lmao that doesn't make it right to not let new players call for medic, or help their fellow teammates by saying that there are spys or sentries.
@@arthurpietrogarcia1057 its what happens when a small studio gets a giant controversy to deal with. I wouldnt wanna work on the game much when most of what you hear are demands and not solutions. The community has been given opportunity to take over and i dont remember how that went but i dont think it stuck.
@@christiangottsacker6932 that's the job of the game developer, to find the solutions, Also the community updates were only maps, Weapon reskins have always been a strange case to me... And cosmetics, no weapon balancing allowed.
as a f2p, its just suffering, i cant call for a medic, cant call out for a spy, cant chat with others, not even being able to say thanks for someone gifting me a hat. i was at 20 hp, I reached out to a medkit just for it to get taken by a teammate, i tried calling for a medic but... i simply couldnt. -\_(0_0)_/-
In most servers in general, there are no bots. Their kicked almost instantly. They only infest the games like Harvest and whatnot. They dont leak into Payload since they get kicked instantly.
As someone who prided himself on being a F2P for several years and unfortunately made the tough decision after these updates to give in and buy a key, I would like to thank you for speaking up for us. Free-to-Plays are the blood of the TF2 community, and to see them stepped upon like this has been hard. You're right, Casual just doesn't feel right without their voices.
As a F2P, I almost never play on casual specifically _because_ of the lack of voice communication. As for voice chat being an advantage, I'll say this: there were matches where if I'd had voice chat we wouldn't have lost, for example, I knew that two enemy medics had uber and kritz between them, and heard them call out that they were fully charged, but I couldn't tell the team, and could only watch as they uber and kritz a demo, wiping out the entire team, and losing us the final point.
someone needs to make a website/forum for F2P's to share their stories instead of just pouring whatever happened and couldnt say anything about it i know if i said as a f2p (insert some story) back when i was a newbie during 2022 id be getting roasted
As a f2p who only started playing on july of last year but loves the game a lot and is always trying to get better, thanks for making this video. Not being able to mess around with other people with voice commands or just compliment a good player for hitting a a good shot kinda sucks, I wish we could at least use voice commands because being able to go from fighting to being friendly and spamming voice commands in the blink of an eye is one of the main things that make this game so special to me, but as it is now I guess I'll just stick to playing on community servers most of the time.
i started playing tf2 on my laptop during lockdown in 2020 and i remember fondly the day i said "man i cant talk in casual so imma go in one of these "community servers" lets see how it goes" after a while i realized that there are a lot of friendly people on there i said, i wonder if casual has gotten better. It didn't, but after considering for an hour or so i decided to spend 5 dollars on tf2. Since trading was like speaking an ancient tongue i spent it on weapon i didnt have. i remember booting up casual after a long time i got destroyed but i could talk and joke around, at the time i had 500 hours. the pure joy of being able to talk with my team was unforgettable. as sad as it is now i cant really see valve reverting that update, hopes are up but chances are fading if any f2ps are reading this: stay strong.
i love this video, because being a f2p is so painful whenever there's a spy owning the team and i can't call them out. valve actually stopped the bots, meaning that the chat feature might come back soonish for f2ps like myself.
Yeah to be fair I personally believe the F2P account restrictions were made to hit 2 birds with one stone The first bird being the Bots spamming the Text Chat and Voice Chat while the secondary bird being the players who haven't payed valve money to play their free to play videogame I feel like it's obvious Valve restricted genuine F2Ps because they want them to spend money
I remember getting my Upgrade to Premium thank to a friend I meet in a TF2 match, so I can do a few thing in the crafting system. Even getting the damm thing is also pretty hard back then because my account back then was restricted of even adding friend so wasn't able to trade but I able to bypass it by click and install dota 2 then I was able to add friend for some unknown reason that work and I traded for the item.
The tragic spy death at 8:38 -ish is SENDING me Fantastic video by the way. I admit, I don't feel I've put enough thought into the f2p chat restrictions as of late simply because i often switch voice chat off or spend most of my time in community servers or on MvM with mostly premium players. I'd forgotten the severity of it all. It seriously sucks that f2p's both long term and new to the game had to be punished because of bot hosts. I think a proper chat filter like you suggested would have been perfect. No clue what it would take to implement one though.
It's pure incompetence on Valve's part. Instead of fixing the root of the problems, they fight the symptoms. I highly doubt that they kept these awful decisions for financial profits since the game itself is earning them mere pocket change. They can't be bothered to sink in any time or effort into a game that they themselves view as a burden by now.
@@trickstabber8117 You didn't answer their question... it is like saying you'll cure world hunger by having people eat food. Okay but how do you produce the food and transport it? How do you improve anti-cheat? Bots/Cheats are on user end and if forced to will be made more human like, like the top 5% of players. Do you just start banning everyone that is skilled? Then the bots drop to the new roof. It all dies. You will always hit a point where there is simply nothing you can do without giving TF2 dangerous access to your device... access to the point where if someone hacked TF2's servers they could have access to millions of computers. User side problems are a nightmare to fix because you just can't.
@@Buglin_Burger7878 All I can say is that other mulitplayer games manage just fine because having a ton of hackers running wild would be bad for reputation, hence the business. Valve has the ability to fix this within a month, the issue is that they don't care about the game. I can't blame them, however, this game came out in 2007 and is just a burden at this point. If the controversies around the hackers were bigger and Valve's reputation was at greater risk, they would most certainly respond more efficiently. Deep down, I believe they aren't too dissatisfied about their game being finally destroyed, it would save them time and money to completely shut it down at this point.
I've said it once I'll say it again. I feel genuinely SO bad for new TF2 players who are broke teens like we were when we first played. They can't voice or text chat, they are bombarded by matches full of bots (sometimes, not always) and are so restricted it makes the game feel like you need to invest money just to get the full experience. Nowhere near what the game used to be like for F2P's back in the day.
A further tinfoil hat point is that, because botters are spending money to make their bot accounts premium (probably from stolen credit cards), Valve now has a monetary incentive to NEVER fix the bot problem. I'd be willing to wager botting makes Valve more money than regular players ever could.
It would depend how much they're spending. If they're buying 3 cent cases then that doesn't make sense but if they bought keys I could very much see how this goes. No clue how DOTA works but if it has an in game market then this might be wrong because they just banned a bunch of cheaters.
when i was a f2p i got a smissmass stocking and fucking exploded because i got a brown paint bucket, name tag, description tag and a smissmass war paint
@@Rejani33most of us would rather spend time with family and/or people we have some kind of relationship with, not play tf2 just to get a backpack extender
I was lucky because one of my relatives owned this really old steam card (like the orange box but it included more) which allowed me to talk. I think it might have been the fact that TF2 was included (and probably still paid for when the card was released) which made the game register me as a premium user.
I remember that time someone (not bot) vote kick me when theres a bot in our team. The worst part is that we all stop pushing the cart but everyone still blindly press f1 to kick me, a real player. I play pyro back then and shaking my mouse in front of them but nah they just f1.
I literally just started playing last week and the friend who got me into it kept telling me to call for a medic. She's been playing for so long she didn't realize that F2Ps are locked out of that :')
I've always felt like introducing matchmaking was a mistake, since it was drawing a lot of players away from the community servers. I'm glad the game is free now, but if they didn't put in matchmaking then many players wouldn't have to deal with those bots nor would they be restricted chat access.
i was a f2p in 2020 and was just on the very end of things, the restrictions came a few weeks after i upgraded to premium by buying a panic attack and a name tag in the item shop, though i refused to spend any more money until like a year later now my backpack is worth like £250
as a f2p its impossible to play casual because if im at 10 hp and tbe medic thinks i dont need it because i aint pressing e to call medic so most of the time ill try to hit the medic with melee but even i see a SPY and i could save my teammates by saying spy nope and my team was dead JUST BECAUSE OF ONE SIMPLE THING I HTE THIS CHANGE AAAAAAA
fun fact: you can actually get premium for less than $1 by taking the item you want on a trial before you buy it. it gives you 25% off, meaning you can get tf premium for 74 cents
Still remember seeing TF2 in the at the time barren F2P section shortly after getting internet and downloading it because my favorite RU-vidr streamed it on Twitch once. Tbh though my options were MW2, TF2, or Combat Arms so I'm pretty sure I would have played it anyways... I was F2P for around 10 months. Community servers were a thing though back then so...
Not being able to call for medic or say "That person is a spy!" literally gimps tf2's gameplay. Half of the fecking in game tips are for "Call for medic with E!" Valve is greedy for money. They may have STARTED doing it for stopping spam, but they realized forcing people to do this, was easy to get away with.
I learned about the game from a friend. The first thing I remember of the game was me and him on a Minecraft map and he was messing with me by being spy and cloaking as me.
i'm forever f2p, i have 1,000 hours on tf2 and i just unlocked chat like last month, i had tf2 for a long time but i didn't play alot before bc i had bad pc
TF2 literally became pay-to-win. Some taunt bugs will allow you to clip into the walls, remove fall damage etc. If it's weak argument, then allow me to introduce you to the items, which are damn keystone of gameplay. IK you can play without them, but you won't win. Screw the Valve.
I,m Free2play and one day I was palying on 2fort just having a fun time when suddenly a bot took my username and screamed in voice chat and started a vote to kick me. I was unable to do anything about it so I eventually got kicked. I didn,t play tf2 for 5 weeks after that because it was super stressful
returning player here from 2011 and right away thought my mic was broken or something till i had learned about the update to have to spend money to talk i was disappointed as the game i had played before wasn't free anymore in a way. then let alone the bots blasting music in every game almost now was confusing hopefully can get rid of them soon which makes you wonder whos making these premium bot accounts.??
My bro and I f2p boot camp to git gud took us a while to realize why we couldn't talk in game after a year hiatus back in 2021. We resolved to buy the only two keys to unlock random cosmetics t fix the problem. Still consider myself f2p tho
I genuinely can't understand anyone who defends what happened to F2Ps. All of the arguments suck. 1: Just pay Team fortress 2 is FREE. you shouldn't have to pay to not let your medic get backstabbed. 2: It's to stop the bots Bots still spam. A certain robot can literally advertise his twitter with several bots AND micspam at the same time. Clearly muting F2P's wasn't the thing that should have been done. 3: F2P's will spam chat Again, this wasn't something anyone was complaining about before they were muted. At the very least let them use voice commands.
I started a f2p but I just couldn't stand it anymore. I wanted to learn and get better but it was so hard. So I bought a pyro crate. I wish we could at least do minor things.
i mean a lot of good stuff have been happening and apearing this year (2023) so maybe valve will say: sure or not and will just say: no we need the money, thanks and have fun
i died many times as a f2p just cuz i cant talk, mostly from chasing a medic to be healed from afterburn,or the funniest one, triying to explain a sniper that theres a spy for so long that we get backstabbed
The silencing of F2Ps kinda makes the upgrade to premium gift a shit purchase. Usually I pick one up if I meet a charming F2P who I plan on friending and hanging out with in the future. Since the F2Ps can't talk I don't wanna hang out with them since I don't know who's chill or who's 9 years old.
im an f2p and i do hate how i cant do many things p2p's can. i cant do mann vs. machine, competitive modes, i cant chat, and i also dont want to pay money for a free game. i am planning on getting a steam gift card just so i can buy stuff and do stuff without getting limited
I remember equipping the cloak and dagger once because i thought it'd let me backstab while cloaked, and using the pomson in achievement engineer servers. God i miss those days.
I was able to immedietely use text chat right out of the gate since the whole reason I got tf2 was uncle Danes ninjaneering video. so we bought the eureka effect from the store.
You get called a f2p for literally any reason. It's a joke. I've been called a f2p and I've spent a couple hundred dollars on the game already. I just only bought a few taunts and buy cosmetics when I receive them in a box.
i started playing the game after these changes were added and so my first 60ish hours was without talking. when i finally was able to it was such a big difference and made me play the game in an entirely new way. i wish that you could at least use voice commands because without anything you are basically invisible to your team esp medics.
being a f2p in boot camp sucks. I know a lot about mvm and i play boot camp a lot. but when i see someone make a mistake, i cant help them because i cant talk. its very painful
I would be hoping for valve to bring back F2P's ability to be able to use voice quotes/voice commands, because it is an important thing to have as a function in the videogame, but I'd say it's fine to not be able to use text chat or use voice chat though it still sucks not being able to.
Ive only recently bought an item from the manco store and now have a premium account. I joined the game during the jungle inferno update and those were the best times of my life playing tf2 and i was really sadden when valve removed the abbility of communication for f2p accounts. I was no longer able to say funny things in the chat. But worse of all i couldnt call for a medic, so for 3 years i had to ram my face into a medic hoping i would get his attention. Now i dont have that problem anymore and being able to text something funny feels great
They just haven’t reverted it because they haven’t found a sure fire way to counter the majority of bots. You gotta think valve is like 400 people. And all working on different projects. TF2 has maybe a few developers working on it actively.
