I like this band a whole lot, but I'm not sure how I feel about the two drummers playing a lot of the same parts. I thought the trade offs that occur were interesting, but other than that, The two kits take away definition from the drum part IMHO. I would have liked to have seen more occurrences of a varied orchestration, trading off between "lead" and "rhythm" drum parts (like in 5:49-6:03), while the other played subtle tom or ride only parts. Maybe this occurs more in other songs by these guys, and I'm not saying my opinion matters more than anyone else's, but whenever the snares didn't lock up just right (snare fill 6:35 to name one), it always really took me out of the groove of the song. Very cool writing and performance though. This band has great chops.
I actually have to disagree. Other than the coolness when the drum parts "fork" (made awesomer by the fact that they're panned all the way to opposite ears,) I think it's also quite an interesting sound when they play the same part. It gives it a really "approximate" feel. For a band that's so ridiculously tight performance-wise, I think the imperfect doubling in the drums serves to give them just enough grit to maintain personality.
I LOVE THIS BAND.......speechless as always when I see these guys play and such awesome guys! Chapman!!! Anton!!!!! Oh don't forget to visit their awesome studio/restaurant at Battle Stage! Delicious food!!! I can order all day!!!!
