On this edition of Tex Grebner Outdoors, we're gonna make it weird as I let all of you watch me lay this classic skin on my signature takedown bow. Several years ago I bought some faux snakeskin fabric from 3Rivers Archery. It's been sitting in my pile of limb color duct-tapes for long enough and it's gonna fit perfect on the Martin Hunter Recurve.
I could not find any other videos of applying this type of fabric to a laminated recurve surface, so if you're watching this, it's a Tex Grebner Outdoors exclusive that's either going to be a great success or a catastrophic failure.
Thanks to 3 Rivers Archery for the snakeskin! Check 'em out on all the social medias below and tell 'em Tex Fuckin' Grebner sent ya:

Last fall, I used the copperhead pattern to cover the limbs of my OMP Ascent. I did have access to Barge cement, but only after going to Walmart, Home Depot, and several local hardware stores and coming up empty and ultimately ordering it online. I, like you, stumbled through the process pretty blind, and ended up with similar results as you. I've taken hundreds of shots out of my bow since, as well as through a tough, wet fall Maine deer season. I did not seal mine as you did, and it seems to be holding up just fine. The seal is probably the final touch my bow needs, though. I am curious as to what tool you used to trim the fabric around the limbs. I used scissors, and though sharp, left edges so very close but uneven and ragged. Made the second pass at getting it closer that much harder. I knew I should have reached for a stone flake when I started with the scissors, but that was across the other side of the workshop, I needed it now. :D I've liked the end result of covering my limbs. Seems like tough stuff, and it protects the limbs really well. Shows no sign of wear, despite the thick stuff I ramble through. I would hope to hear if you have similar results as it gets field tested. Side note: I saw the rep from Oncore targets (the one you spoke with in your ATA show video) at the Kinsey's Dealer Show in Hershey a couple weeks ago. The only reason I knew to even look for his type of product, was because you stopped to talk to him. As a small archery shop, his targets have been what I've been looking for, for a long time. Ended up buying a lot of product from him for the shop. Keep up the good work, Tex.

Nice job man, but I'm a little disappointed in you,the Tex I know would have bulldog caught a twenty foot rattler with his teeth pulled the hide off and covered all his bows musta been a slow day. Anyway looks fine it does now I'm wanting one.

I've found barge cement at hobby lobby. Onestringer has limsations in several different designs for putting on limbs that look pretty good.

I got the fabric, I got the barge cement. I put it on the same way you did. I used an acid brush to cover the limb front. I put on the cloth right away, before the cement dry'd even though it is a high grade rubber cement and you are suppose to put it on both surfaces and then let it dry 15 min and then press it together. I think it works better with the fabric, to stick it on with it still tacky and rub it down. I didn't put any on the cloth, just the limb. Now I cleaned the limb good, but I didn't sand it. It still sticks like a Massy Fergason. I put the cloth on both sides of the limb and rubbed down the sides on the sides of the limb in an overlap from the rear to the front, but I think on the second limb I am going to put the back on first, and overlap the front to the rear. I haven't sealed it yet, but if my hardware store sells the minwax polyurathane i will get it. (By the way 3 Rivers has it for 14 dollars for a can, and I think one can would be suficient. Also they have an Arrow Sealer but you would need a spray bottle, and or paint gun for that, but i think it is a bit heavier and made to seal bows, so 25 dollars vs 14 and probably more durable. The way I installed mine allows me to remove the cloth in the future if I wish to do so, and clean the barge cement off and the limbs will look like they did before the process. I have 4 actual rattler skins but I am going to put those on an expensive bow, like my ILF/FALL quad bow. I am fixing to launch my You Tube Archery channel, so I will show what I am doing soon. And TY Tex, I always am inspired with your vids.

I have used these but in copperhead on a couple selfbows, I use tite-bond 3 under the skin and then a layer on top, once it’s dried I trim everything up and use a wipe on satin poly, they don’t come off and like you said look great. Good video

Tex...turned out pretty good IMO...time will tell if the edges stay glued.......question....do you ever clean the dirt from underneath your fingernails? Just one of my pet peeves.

I admit Tex that it does look good but I'm curious as to how your choice of glue will hold up after shooting it a few times. Will the flexing loosen the stiff glue or will it bend with the bow. Another comment....clean your finger nails man! Do you eat with those looking like that?

By the way. I have 2 recurves now that is one of my new priorities to practice every week. I always liked the recurve. Now I'm gonna get serious. You are to blame. A little.
