Thüringerwaldbahn Driver's Eye View: Tabarz to Gotha Hauptbahnhof, Thuringia, Germany: 4th June 2015

The Thüringerwaldbahn is a Regional tramway service in Thuringia . It runs between Gotha Hauptbahnhof and Tabarz along line 4 of the Gotha tram network. It skirts the Thuringian Forest. To read more about the Thüringerwaldbahn, click here: translate.googl... .
This rare footage is taken from a camera mounted on the dashboard in the driver's compartment of the tram, and features the entire journey from Tabarz to Gotha Hauptbahnhof. The footage has been edited to remove the 'still' sections when the tram is halted at stops.
The journey that this tram takes goes through the following stops: Tabarz; Marienglashöhle; Friedrichroda (TWSB); Reinhardsbrunn Bf; Reinhardsbrunner Telche; Walterhausen Schnepfenthal; Walterhausen Gleisdreieck; Walterhausen Wahlwinkel; Leina; Boxberg; Gotha Krankenhaus; Sundhausen; Gotha Am ha we ge-Markt; Gotha Schöne Aussicht; Gotha Wagenhalle; Gotha Ernststraße; Gotha 18-März-Straße; Gotha Myconlusplatz; Gotha Bertha-Von-Suttner-Platz; Gotha Gartenstraße; Gotha Huttenstraße; Gotha Orangerie; Gotha Bahnhofstraße and Gotha Hauptbahnhof.

Увидел свою квартиру,которую снимал на третьем этаже Waltersheuser str.3 😀 Шумно было жить,особенно на кухне и в зале телевизор не слышно,дороги из брусчатки, плюс трамвай, в Gotha прошла молодость

Tree cutting is probably a real concern, keeping branches away from the overhead wires. I imagine there may be a special railcar that travels the track with the equipment to trim back the trees. This is indeed one of my favourite train travel videos.

No need for any special railcars. There're too many arabs over there to bother with railcars or other dedicated machinery.

Very interesting, reminiscent of American interurban railways of 100 years ago. What was the forest clear cutting on the right side towards the beginning about?

+Moss Travelogue When I saw the clearing I immediately thought autobahn. I see there is a bundesautobahn 71 under construction not far away. Apparently the highway building lobby is alive and well in Germany as well as the USA. I hope this railway is well patronized and continues for years to come. Wish I could ride on it!

+brushcreek42 the tram is reasonably well used, but is also promoted as a tourist attraction. Public transport in Germany is very much valued by government and the public, where car ownership is not as great as it is in many other industrialised nations.
