You gotta love them turbo 400s...I was fortunate enough to have experienced one in my 1970 SS Chevelle..today...to me..there're almost worth their weight in gold!!..thanks man!!😊👍👍😎
Yeah...you're exactly right man...this is one of my true loves...turbo 400s...they've got lots of strength and staying power...if I could only a woman to match!!!😁😁😆😎 this is my Saturday night excitement..😁😎
Hello Shawn, I remember getting my tips back in the 1970s from John Kilgore in Hot Rodding mags he gave simple tricks on the Turbo 400 like drill here on the valve body separator plate and a few other mods without buying anything. I now get motivated and ready to tackle my T400 before bolting back into my K10. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
My th400 had the oil pump boost valve stuck fully open, It propably made full pressure all the time. The pump was whining while the transmission was cold. Installed new boost valve, reused the gears since they looked ok and measured ok too. Got the tranny back in the car and it still whines while in gear (higher pressure in gear). So I guess I need to pull the pump again and replace the gears too.. I measured the pressure in all the gears and they are ok. I guess those gears are somehow damaged or someting. It also have cracked plastic valve body accumulator piston(too much pressure?). Replaced it with aluminun one.
@@mountainsgarage I used the one that came with the alto rebuild kit. It's not the hi flow brass version, I can see the yellow cloth in the oval hole. Also the first filter I used before overhauling was the same kind. Too restrictive?
@@mountainsgarage have you ever thought about doing step by step videos on DVD I would shure be interested in one I have been saving your videos to for help
Dam. Maybe the builder consumed one too many adult beverages during the build. Shawn, your jokes always crack me up because they are always out of left field and the best part is that you don[t mind making fun of your own mistakes. And lol, "or not".
I tore one down awhile back where a couple of thrust washers and torrington bearings were installed in the wrong areas in the planetary assembly and it was not good😔
Good info Shawn. BTW, was the cup plug (ventilated) and check ball in the case next to the center support bolt boss for reverse exhaust control for dual feed direct?
@@mountainsgarage I did the dual feed on mine and plugged that hole to prevent reverse band apply in forward. (also left off second sealing ring on the center support). Some shift kits to the same thing with the plate design. And one of the nice things about the switch pitch is the lighter apply with higher stall (brake pedal control) when shifting into/out of reverse and forward. Had a failure of the stator solenoid and you can really tell the difference when it bangs into gear in low stall.
