How easy it is to get sky Sports? Or at least Premiership football? Can you get it to your house? or do bars nearby have it? do you live near a town? where did you actually live?
My Thai wife and I met online over twenty years ago. She came to live with me in the UK, and we will be celebrating our twentieth wedding anniversary this year. My wife is 100% tea total and a devout Buddhist. If I have just one bottle of beer, she says I’m “Mow”! We are both looking forward to retiring soon, and settling down back “home” in Thailand. I’m building a bucket list of all the things I want to do, and places to visit when we eventually get to Thailand.
I can't wait to move to Manchester and live with my boyfriend that I met online, I'm ready to sell everything I have here in South Africa and go live with my soulmate 😊
I came to Thailand in 2010 planning to stay 3 years. Within 6 months I knew I was staying for good. I never thought I would end up living on a farm I love my way of life. I live half way between Buriram and Satuek.
Ryan, Damo...at your ages you've found the meaning of life...keep it simple = FREEDOM & you can't put a price on that. You're a lovely couple with a beautiful son. Damo looks younger, speaks excellent English & it would be great to see her & her sister together sometime. Love your lifestyle, your attitudes. All the very very best to you & family.
Ryan and Damo what a lovely couple you are. Thank you both for your Q&A and being so open, especially Damo you are very articulate the most I've heard you speak so real and honest. Ryan you have a very beautiful wife and you can see she loves you very much, you can see you both love each other in a true and natural way. So with that I wish you both and your family Love Luck and Happiness. I hope one day when I get back to Thailand I will be able to meet you both with my Thai wife and share a meal with you. Les from Australia.
Both of you are very awesome and FABULOUS. Fighting!!! I will retire in Thailand in 3 years I enjoyed watching your video every day. Your wife is very generous and pretty. Thai women are most very Geogeous and Charming.
Both of you so lucky to have each other..
You two are so awesome & very lucky to have one another and your land too! Love watching this vlog......all the questions and answers are great and we look forward to to watching more vlogs like this! Damo is so charming and you’re lucky to have her Ryan!
Really enjoying the channel for the last month, lots of preceding episodes to catch up on. Watching you both here just now was very sweet. Looking forward to seeing more!
Wonderful Q&A session, loved the honesty and watching the two of you together. You have something really special there and it shone through.........thanks guys.
i would say you both are perfect for each other . you guys are great parents ,humble , knowledgeable. kind , and smart , so many people want to be where you are and live simple and happy like you guys .As one would say don't live life waiting for tomorrow , your tomorrow is here .nice vlog , thank you for doing this Q and A cheer!
Beautiful spider man embellishment Damo!. You both are very talented. Sua jing jing. Ryan, your summary message at the end of the vlog empowers me as I head to Thailand this Wednesday from Florida. So cute to hear Otis speak in Thai and English. Geng khanot!
Home is wherever you feel your heart is at. Now, more than ever before, living off the land is probably the best plan. At the end of the day, all we need is our loved ones around us, simple & unadulterated whole foods & a decent shelter. If the pandemic showed us anything, is that we really don't need as much as we think we do. You will ultimately be happier and healthier in the countryside and find meaning in helping the local community. It's a good life.
thank you for opening up Ryan and Dammo. I much prefer that you are staying on your property. I too have lost all and rebuilt, and love the fact that you are both lovely people with a great attitude to life. I predict great things in the future for you both while all along sticking to your values.
Thanks so much Kev, really appreciate your feedback and thanks for becoming a member of the channel. Please do reach out with any questions anytime. Wishing you and your family well 🙏🙏
When Damo stroked his beard and calls him a clever guy I pissed myself. She is sooo shy. What an amazing personality. A beautiful couple. Can’t wait for Otis to get old enough to take on some questions too. Love you guys.
Damo and Ryan you guys are awesome couple I love watching you rural life in Thailand wish to travel there one day I love everything there in Thailand. I have a Thai daughter in law and she’s telling me to visit Thailand bcoz it’s very beautiful up there.God bless you guys.

Dude, Ive just come upon your channel and am so envious of your adventure. I have just watched this episode actually its the forth one tonight .... what a great couple you both are very genuine content, I first went to Thailand back in 92' for 6 months and loved it and have returned many times and have always wanted to make a life there in fact exactly what you are doing now, just talking with my buddy tonight and he has a place just north of Kaset Wasai, north of where you are , Im sitting here licking myself wondering why did I just not take the plunge and do it ... love your channel... keep up the great content and best of luck to you and your family
Damo: your English is so good! How did you learn? Thanks again to both of you for sharing your life. Also for reminding viewers that this paradise didn’t happen overnight… You both referred to the years of planning and working towards this. It is my dream to one day have my own little green space… I’m not sure how it will happen because the cost of land on Vancouver Island is so crazy. I am open to living some of my retirement years in another country. I would love to own but it may just be me renting. And that’s OK too.
Excellent vlog mate and well answered to selection of good questions. Damo was great with her English and answers, very kind hearted person. Not bad by you too Ryan, 555..
Hi Ryan and Damo I just found your channel through researching more about Thailand and my future move to it, both your insight and information is really helpful and hope you don't mind me dropping in from time to time for updates.
Really interesting to hear the full story. My girl ( online 555) an isaan girl, unfortunately has a bkk ball and chain attached and is only allowed 3 days off at a time ( graphics company) in the melting pot .I love your volgs it helps us no end for when we make the move, cheers...cheers !" maybe the wrong words for someone T total 555 🇹🇭🙏🏴
This couple is real, they just want to live a simple and happy life. So simple in everyway, others would ask, why or don't even understand. The answer is plain and simple, "happiness".
what a lovely couple..damo is really a nice smart hardworking and simple woman .A very caring mother to otis.your so blessed ryan..Godbless your family..Keep safe ..
I have two cultures myself and understand both of you very well. You all are doing great, I admire your simple life style, genuine and positive attitude (no greed...), so stick to what you believe and keep on doing/going, ignore the negative comments since you are in different world from them. However your son is adorable, he will learn a lot from both of you about life and culture. I enjoyed watching your video and good luck to you.
I have just found your channel today! It is wonderful and I am grateful for you both for sharing your adventures and lifestyle. I'll be watching more and more and have lots and lots of questions!! I'm a 12 time visitor to Thailand and want to make it my home and immerse myself in much the same way as you and Damo have created. thank you.
Great video and thanks for answering my question. I must admit that I agreed with Damo that it is not the right time to go off grid. Good luck with the garden project, I will watch with interest. PS, I also lve Koh Ph'angang
In a way i was looking forward to the buffalo video but as i said before the cost didnt seem like you as you are normally not one to waste money. Glad to hear you will develop the farm as this makes more sense in the long run. Glad to hear damo speak a bit more its obviously hard for her as she is a shy lady. And she defo doesnt look older than you ryan. Love the video.
Well planned, an off grid project can be at your land close to your family... much better! Very nice with a q and a . I like that both of you give and take space in the conversation. Regards Rickard from Sweden 🇸🇪
A great and interesting video, thanks for answering my questions. I think you are becoming more Thai in attitudes than perhaps you might think 😁 I've found that living for the day to be very common in Thailand, much to my frustration sometimes. Not that anybody really predicted the current situation, but my ex-gf had a very successful taxi business which 90% relied on transient tourists, I used to try and persuade her to save some money but as soon as she did, she spent it with no thought for the future. Covid hit, her business collapsed and 5 years of building her customer base just disappeared along with the nice flat, car etc. Future planning isn't sexy or funny but it is essential.
I agree. 1 year before Covid I had a dream which said be like a squirrel the winter is coming. I’m glad we decided to completely change out habits and listen to that message. Or non of this would be possible 👍🙏
It baffles me how anyone can give this a thumbsdown. All I can think of is jealousy. Ryan, Damo, please keep as you are & doing what you do. Oh & more Q&A vlogs would be great. Thank you
Thanks my friend. I do wish those that thumbs down would leave a small explanation as to why. Though I see there are always two straight after posting within 2 minutes so I’m other words without actually watching the vlog 😬🙏☺️
@@lifeinruralthailand I totally agree Ryan but that would mean them having to say they're jealous or just make something up. You & Damo keep doing what you do.
Thanks Ryan and Damo for sharing this lifestyle experience, wishing both of you get happiness and long life! Thai Issan special food that I like to eat is papaya salad (Somtam pla)
Great video as always 😍 We have just moved to Thailand as a family from the U.K. to Hua Hin, don’t get me wrong we love it here but where you live seems so free and liberating, anyway keep up the great work and good luck going forward.
Hey mate. I was just like you married to an Esarn girl with a little boy. 17 years I lived there with her and loved every moment. We are still together and are a strong loving family. When my son reached 14 we moved back to the UK so he could finish his education. Its been 4 years since we left and I'm ready to return. I'm missing it so much. It is my real home not the UK
Cute couple. Damo if you ask me I say you’re look like 28 year old. Just keep your love strong and be there for each other and be happy with Otitis.❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Yes .. I watch you guys on full screen (TV :D lol - I feel so alive when I do that ). Yes this time I used a mobile phone with headset . Thank you both very much once again ❤️
I know this is a late post, but you have a suay mak family, & are very lucky to live a beautiful life with a beautiful wife in a beautiful part of 🇹🇭 🙏🏼..
Yes, focusing and living in the NOW is so important. Loved this. Thank you. 👍💯 You can't put a price on happiness. Side note: Kiwi here, have you been to NZ?
Great Q&A session. I loved to hear what Demo is saying. Next time give her her own microphone please as she has a very low voice (still too shy). Yes, going 100% solar is a challenge in Thailand. In Chiang Mai area there is a German couple who developed an area build several houses on it and it is all solar now. However, they have a company to pay for the investment. (Phi Suea House; I visited them in 2018. Absolutely fascinating). Battery wise, I tend now for Li-Ion batteries as they cope better with the heat and are much more flexible with respect to depth of discharging. They just have to be all balanced. Due to Covid and restricted material flow from China, even building a house in Thailand with steel is more expensive now. We too do wait until we will build the new house on the farm which is 1 h away from the land my friend normally lives. A week ago, a thunderstorm with a tornado did lift up all the roof and blew away the solar sells on the roof. So we have to fix it now, but will not invest yet into the house we want to build.
When did you start the vlog? I've been bingeing all afternoon and would like to watch vlog 1. Great show and greetings from Cambodia. I taught in Bangkok in '92 and went on to Indonesia, Vietnam Japan, Laos, and now, Cambodia.
I got married in 2003 to my wife, who's from Ban Dan in Buriram (nearly 20 years ago !). I did pay a sin sod but we didn't have a proper wedding ceremony in the village, and subsequently, we never got around to it. I think this was a huge oversight and has caused a lot of hurt and regret over the years. We're the opposite to you in lots of ways (my son doesn't speak Khmer or Thai and has never been to Thailand, and just due to the pressures of the rat race, here we're struggling a bit as a family). My wife and I returned to the UK mainly because I couldn't make a living as an English teacher and couldn't figure out another way to make things work. I've worked hard ever since and slogged away to reduce my mortgage, etc .But on a positive note, we live in Dorset, which is beautiful. My wife is happy here and has been able to return home intermittently over the years (at least every other year excepting Covid). Dorset is a great place to live, but it's been nearly 17 years since I last went to Thailand. You've got me thinking it is probably time to just get on a plane now. I've retained my Thai but not to the same level, and my Khmer has largely gone except for listening to family phone calls back to Buriram. There is someone called Shelby who is a great RU-vid Thai and Isaan (Lao) teacher. It would be great if someone could provide basic Upper Khmer (Khmer Surin) lessons. I learnt Khmer in Cambodia, which provides a good baseline, but it is quite different. Apologies, a bit of a long comment but fairly cathartic for me as I reflect on life in Nong Khai, Mahasarakham, and Buriram between 1992 and 2003.
I'm Thai. I met my Scottish husband online too. he is younger than me 3 years. we live in Glasgow and we are together 10 years now with a wee boy and one more coming. My mum and dad didn't want SinSod. They just want us to keep the money for our new life here. Mum even gave us money for our new house. We used to live with my mum in law just to saved money for our first house. we both working. I was really depressed when I moved here in Glasgow. yes culture shock, foods, the weather.🌧 always rain, dark ,not much sun. 10 years now I kinda get used to it.🙂 also my English was really bad and Scottish accent just not helps🤣
What you have there money can't buy so you my friend are better off than a millionaire. A beautiful wife and adorable son wish you all a happy healthy life.
