About 🙏 in Thai custom: For normal situation, the person with lower rank initiate 🙏 and the person with higher rank respond by 🙏 back. If the the person with higher rank does not reponse, it's considered rude or the the person with lower rank is very low rank like a servant. However, the king by custom won't 🙏 anybody except the monks or the person senior to him in family. So when the king travel, people 🙏 and the king does not respond. When the king recieve the visit of foreigner of high rank or the rank equal to him (the president) as in this clip and the foreigner initiate 🙏 to the king, awkward moment occur because the king cannot respond by 🙏 back. The king does not to be appear rude by not 🙏 back. So foreigner should go for handshake to the king.
