This is NOT a VR180 video, it is a 3d video. RU-vid VR is going to force it to be in the VR180 format I guess.
This is a 3d video of Thailand. You can watch using a head mounted display and playing the video back on RU-vidVR. If you play it on the normal RU-vid player, it will not be in 3d. You must go to the RU-vidVR app, not the normal one.
This video is of Thailand beaches of Hong Island, Lao Lading Island, Railay West and Pakbia Island. This is not intended to be the best video in the world, its more of a demonstration of 3d equipment to promote the creation of better 3d systems. There were plenty of issues in making these shots. Overall, I think this setup is one of the better 3d cameras you can get at the moment. I happened to get mine used for almost nothing, but since the K1 pro can use whatever lens you want, it makes a better 3d camera than just about anything else out there. There are some interesting VR180 cameras out there, but when you get to landscapes vr180 suffers as the pixels per degree is not good. You have to be ok with the square format. In this case, the square format worked out best due to the steep cliffs and jungle close to the camera all around. Normally, I would use a different rig, like the E1 twin rig to get a 16x9 video, but these islands worked very well using a square format. This is the same # of pixels, they just happen to be square aspect rather than 16x9 in the end.
This was shot with a Z Camera K1 Pro camera with Olympus 9mm body cap lenses. This is an odd choice for lens, but I wanted to keep my pack as small as possible. The 9mm lens is very similar to other wide angle lenses, but it is fixed at f8. This ends up shotting about a 23mm field of view in both directions, so the final product is a square video per eye. This is because the K1 Pro was designed to be a VR180 camera, but vr180 looks very rough with the fairly low pixel count, so in using a super wide angle lens, it increases the pixel density per degree by a factor of 4 and it then becomes an acceptable 3d camera. Most of the time, I do not need the full degrees of vr180, so a simple super wide lens still gives plenty of coverage. Since I have no display hooked to the camera, I had to guess at what I was shooting at and mostly I guessed right, but sometimes you can tell I dont know where its pointing. You can wifi connect a phone, but I was setting up and breaking down so fast and had limitted time on the islands where the time to just get the phone set up and connected would be way too long. The camera power was using a smallrig battery plate connected using an L bracket with an NP battery. This makes the rig very compact. One issue was, with no real ability to have a screen, I could not set the white balance so its auto and you will see the video change white balance on occasion, but this is the best I could do given I did not have time to hook up a screen or do a more professional shot.
Most of the shots were on a DJI RS3 gimbal. This is my first use of a gimbal and I would change all the settings I had. It was way too darty. I had the speeds on medium and joystick to fast and that was not good. I also did not have the Super Smooth feature enabled. If I did this over, I would have much more smooth video, but this worked out better than hand held by a longshot.
Processing was using Magix Vegas. Alignment is infinity converged for head mounted displays. The final resolution is 2880x2800 at 30fps. Final video had metadata injected using Googles VR180 Creator software. This was set using an 84 degree FOV on both axis. I am not sure if this will work exactly. As usual, the entire process of posting to youtube can impact the quality of the video as the source video is about 60mbps where I think RU-vid will crunk it down to around 5. So, the quality of the real video is significantly better than what you will see when using youtubevr, let alone the network issues you may have to cause a further reduction of quality to maintain a real time stream.
I do have a better quality 3d camera than this in the twin Z cam E2 setup, but this is so big, I would need a tripod and these types of shots are mostly not doable with a tripod. I need to be much more mobile. In using Gopro and Insta360 cameras, their stabilization is so good that you would not need a gimbal at all if they made 3d cameras, but they dont want to, so I still need a gimbal. I have after market software to do stabilization, but since the lenses I use are not common, the software cannot produce nice results. I have tried similar lenses to the ones I have in software and I get jello or issues all the time. Ideally, some major maker will make a 3d camera with the modern stabilization and everything would move ahead massively. Stabilization is probably the biggest issue with filming 3d.

It certainly is. They way you are playing it may be in 3d or not depending on how you got to the video. I am looking at it right now in RU-vidvr in 3d for sure, I am not kidding, I have done this longer than anyone, and its working fine. The problem is, they have made it so hard to view 3d videos in 3d that virtually nobody can figure it out. You absolutely MUST use youtubevr, not youtube, it has to be youtubeVR. Pretty much, the only thing I know that works is Quest headset. I have an HP reverb and I CANNOT view it in 3d. That is because nobody at RU-vid really wants to make this easy. So, nobody uses youtube. I pretty much am going to give up on them and post probably to Big Screen or some other app. RU-vid gave up on this stuff many years ago.
