Now this is what I'm talking about. Love the focus on WHY these mangrove (wetlands) are so necessary and how they can combat sea level rise. BKK is going to be ground zero in the next few decades; Western audiences need to see first hand how these changes are impacting humanity today and in the near-future. Great work, please keep it up!
Thank you, Lloyd. We are feeling this right now as much of the area south of Bangkok is flooding. Bangkok is very much ground zero for sea level rise. it is clearly the countries biggest threat.
Thanks William, I appreciate you coming over and checking out the channel! Paddy is an awesome friend, I had no idea he was shouting out my channel today. Super grateful he did tho. 😀
Thanks! it's super easy to get to. If you check the map link in the description you can see where everything is. BTS and Songthaew will get you there in no time.
Nice little Coffee shop, i feel ya Dana about the fishnet thingy to sit on over the water 😉 brave from Jib to do it 🙌 But you did get on the insta stairs buddy 💪 The restorations of mangroves is a realy good natural idea against the elements. Thanks for sharing and C Ya in the next one👊
I figured I was safer on the stairs than the net because I could jump off if needed. The Mangrove project is amazing and will hopefully make a legit impact on the coastline of the gulf.
Thank you for the upload :-) I visited the pier a few years back after a bicycle ride around Muang Boran. Coming from Sydney I was surprised to see tourists feeding seagulls as we see them as pests essentially haha
Thank you! Same in the US, we don't look too kindly on SeaGulls but here it does seem to be a different approach. At the end of the day they all have a role to play in that coastal ecosystem so I guess it's a positive thing. But I'm still not used to it lol
Hi Dana & Jib....... Watch strap crocodile leather looks good....... Hahahahaha... you should try the net would be fun to see......... Mangrove ecosystem nice.... Didnt see any wild life ? The dog look familiar.... "FRANk" the PUG. hahahaha. Wanna visit Thailand soon...
Hey Bro, yeah those watch straps looked very well made, his craftsmanship was insanely good. We saw a lot of fish and crabs, but that was about it. no lizards on this trip.
Lovely video. Being from The Netherlands....yeah living below sea level is a thing. Good that Thailand have Mangroves. We have dunes and dykes though ;)
Thanks Richard! Yes i hope the mangrove restoration helps.. we could learn a lot from The Netherlands, your infrastructure is world famous for its ability to hold back the ocean. Really impressive implementation.
Wow! I didn’t know that bkk is fighting against the sea. I expect it to be higher up because it like 80km inland. Thanks for the mangrove tour! I love the purple hat!
Thanks man, and that is my favorite hat, I need it to protect my sensitive skin. lol. Bangkok isn't that far inland. and a lot of it sits below sea level. Before Bangkok was a city it was actually a swamp that was turned into agricultural land. The city will always be fighting with water in one way or another. When you come to BKK again I will show you some of urban design stuff and water issues here. There is some really cool design around how the city deals with water.
Thanks Erik! Yes the mangroves are going to play a critical role in Thailand battle agains sea level rise. And absolutely yes those walkways were not in good enough shape for someone my size to feel safe walking on them. LoL. Which is too bad because I really wanted to do the whole skywalk.
Very cool…yeah we’ve been there done that….actually when we went it was freezing cold for some reason and no one was out on the pier except us…but yeah…the whole Bangkok is sinking….I wonder about the future generations….if that city will look like so many in the movies of the future …lost barren and abandoned…
Even when we were there it was chilly, but I guess being on the gulf will do that. Jib and I often wonder about what will become of Bangkok if the current environmental issues are not addressed.
Sure thing, if it's the pier at the end of the video then here is the google map link: goo.gl/maps/74yRb4HhLpsakBcf6 From that parking lot you can also enter the nature path we were on, assuming the door is open. We just took the Songtaew from the end of the BTS line and crossed the street and walked over. It would probably be about a 30 min ride on a scooter to there from the BangkChak / Onnut area.
Very interesting video!!! Maybe you could get in contact with people involved in mangrove forest restoration and get some info on how they think it will help out the city. Thanks!!!
