That's much easier to understand than any articles I read about this visa! If I were younger, I would do this in a heartbeat! Today is my first day of retirement, and I've started thinking about coming back to Chiang Mai again, at least for a couple of months a year. I just need to set up some sort of social life before I go. When I went in early 2022, I was so lonely the entire time. The expats I ran into weren't open to talking, which shocked me. Have you thought of starting some type of monthly get-together of both current expats and newcomers, to break the ice? That way, at least the newcomers could make friends with each other, and get advice from the old-timers. I would gladly pay for that!

Hello! Thanks so much for your kind comment. Please feel free to let us know if you are looking to come back to Chiang Mai. You can email us at info@settleinabroad.com! Regarding the 500k deposit in a savings account, does it need to be in a Thai bank?
@SettleinAbroad
@SettleinAbroad Месяц назад
It does not need to be in a Thai bank account. It can be in any bank account in any currency as long as the statement has your name on it.

**WARNING I was Charged $650 CAD for the official DTV application and denied over a name typo. The application form has some unclear fields, including the NAME field which I entered my first and last name but should have put in my middle name. They flat out cancelled the application. I called in about the simple error and spoke with the fella that cancelled it in the Vancouver Embassy, he was a stone wall about how simple the error was. I also Asked why it was double the price as all other embassy and he said that is just the way it was setup from Thailands side and they had no control. I'm going to have to try again but from Vietnam next where its actually only 10,000Baht.

I just got an email from the Penang Thai Embassy. I previously mailed them asking for the DTV visa, my big doubt was whether the 500K needed to be in a Thai bank or not, and this is what the answered: "The bank account can be either a Thai bank account or your home country's account."

What if you don't have a registered company or contracts with anyone but just work online as a freelancer taking payments through wise etc? I am a recruiter so I don't have any portfolio apart from messages on various platforms organising interviews. Is that enough evidence?
@SettleinAbroad
@SettleinAbroad Месяц назад
Hi there! Thank you, for your comment. Yes, this may be possible. We would suggest you select "Freelancer" on your application. Create a document, of you "portfolio," even if it is just messages. Write a document explaining what you do and how you make money. Have pay stubs showing that you make money from it, and you may need to make a work contract from yourself to yourself and proof that you have paid tax on this income. Every embassy is handling this differently and asking a lot of details for the Workation category. If you don't have great proof, it may be safer to enroll in a Thai cooking class or Muay Thai class. The only risk in applying is that the government fee is non-refundable. Feel free to email us at info@settleinabroad.com if you need assistance.

@@SettleinAbroad I don't earn enough to pay tax yet in my country. But I have plenty of money in my bank. Maybe they will be kind as it is a fresh startup. I'm already in Thailand. So I don't want to go back to UK. Any idea where the closest embassy is that goes easy on freelancers?
@SettleinAbroad
@SettleinAbroad Месяц назад
@@workhardplayhard7610 The embassies in Laos, Vietnam, Indonesia and Malaysia are accepting DTV applications. However, each embassy has their own exact rules and strictness. There is not an "easy" one per say, yet anyway as the visa program has just started.

So correct me if i am wrong but its 180 days per year as you said. Which is extendable by another 180 days for another 10k Baht as i can see everywhere else. Again per year?? So does that mean if i am willing to pay another 10K baht every year again for the extend i can stay up to 360 days per year in thailand before i need to leave the country by airtravel?
@SettleinAbroad
@SettleinAbroad Месяц назад
Hi there! Thank you for your comment. The price of the extension has not been announced yet. In theory, what you're saying is accurate for what they have announced, but we expect there will be some limit on the amount of extensions in the 5 year span.

While the mandating of Insurance is happening, many prospective retirees will not choose Thailand. Many retirees have funds to pay for their own health. They don't need insurance and don't want to be forced to do something they don't want to do.
@SettleinAbroad
@SettleinAbroad Месяц назад
Hi there. Insurance is not required for retirees when you get the 3 month non o online, or the Non-O Retirement within Thailand. Only the 12 month Non-OA applied for outside Thailand, requires insurance. Also, the Wealthy Pensioner LTR Visa, has the option to show financial proof instead of insurance!

Great video, thanks. We are currently in Thailand, i know you can't apply in thailand. But is it possible to apply in Penang, so not our home country? And when you make a cooking class, how long should the course be, every year for 6month? Thanks in advance
@SettleinAbroad
@SettleinAbroad Месяц назад
Hi there! Thanks for your comment and kind words. Yes, it seems possible to apply from other embassies in Southeast Asia. It will take a bit of time for all the embassies to get on board, but so far we see it's available in Vientiane. Laos. The course should be at least 6 months yes. The exact criteria on this does depend on the exact embassy who will read it. If you would like our support for a visa run to get the visa, we can help you through the whole process. Few factual things incorrect there, it is 180 days with an extension of an additional 180 days.. so that is 360, same cost to renew.. Now the biggest question is at the end of the 360 days can you leave and come back and do it again, one the one hand seems silly to allow this but on the other hand do you really think Thailand is going to make a person ineligible of coming back for 4 years.. I don't think so Side note Safety wing is garbage, if you have a serious accident you need to pay the money upfront, the purpose of having the insurance is that you are not having to pay your own health care, imagine his you have to pay $50k usd upfront...

Not likely to happen. If it did, border run companies would lose their customers. Local immigration and associated border tour companies won't accept it due to the massive loss in money.
