Taxi name plate 1XC 3160 is a cheat and a looter. He tripples his rate once we reach at the destination outside Bangkok. If we argue he even assaults physically. His looting station is sukhumvit. Beware of him

i encountered once many years ago, the driver agreed to take us to cathucak but middle of journey he stop on small jewelry shop and asked us to patron the shop, no need to shop as he said it will earn him small comm for gas. As we also don't want any trouble with local, we played along.

Thanks for sharing for your experience with that taxi driver in Bangkok. Yes, Taxi driver can get commissions at Jewelry shops, and also at Seafood restaurants, and massage parlors, and sometimes even at nightclubs, too.

criminal taxi drivers aka mafia taxis are a huge problem in nightspot areas even thai nightspot areas like rca and thai's despise them. additionally in tourist areas. the interesting thing is these drivers may cruise around wasting fuel just to find a passenger thay can scam rather than using the meter and having many customers in the interim. they may actually lose money doing this.

How long did it take to learn the language this well and how? Classes or making thai friends and hanging out daily?

I leant Thai within my first year in Thailand as I studied here. After that year I was quite fluent on most topics. However, after that I, of course, still improved my Thai a lot, particularly also with regard of reading and writing, but I also got a much broader vocab, also on more complex topics. I just spent 2 h divided by 2 evenings to learn a little and actually remember, "i, you, will, no, may, might, cant, can, here, there, read, drink, go, movie, book, see, swim and how to combine them". Its super fun and I find myself walking around making up sentences and speaking them loudly to myself, oh and I learned "now and wood" by watching your language video. Hope to be able to move to thailand and if I do Ill take great joy in learning to speak thai.
