Darragh Collins I don’t think it’s necessarily about being in love with Mac. But Mac had just died probably which is why he’s coming back as a “ghost”. And he was interfering with her relationship with Pete without even being there.

Darragh Collins the actually story of the song is Ariana being in a relationship with Pete whilst thinking of Mac. “Ghostin” refers to “ignoring” and as said in the song “I know that it breaks your heart when I cry again, stead of ghostin him” is basically Ariana apologizing to Pete for thinking about Mac instead of “ghostin/ignoring” him. And to add on what to the person above me said, “ghostin” can also be an innuendo as mac coming as a “ghost” when she says he visits her in her dreams.

Ari and Gabi are cool. Ariana puts gabi on her story here and there. Plus break up with your girlfriend has a lot of different meanings. For example, it kinda just represents self love.
