Good presentations don't vomit data on you, but piece meal them with visual aids to make following the flow of the meeting easier. Because that makes a meeting with data quicker and more efficient. Which saves money. And one should always be able to see the value in that. Granted, if they can use basic logic. Emphasis on can. 🙃

I appreciate the red dot that was used for the spec comparisons. I don’t know if this was something that was changed due to production break but it makes these comparisons substantially easier to follow along with at home.

I'm 80% sure they marketed the 7800 XT as a 6800 (non xt) replacement but unfortunately they shot themselves in the foot this generation with the naming scheme
@mitchellhalter4
@mitchellhalter4 8 месяцев назад
Yeah, It seems like most of the cards had their naming schemes bumped up a tier leading to misleading results. The 7900 XTX should have just been the 7900 XT, the 7900 XT should have been the 7800 XT, and the 7800 XT should have just been called the 7800. Nvidia isn't doing much better. The 4070 Ti only is named such because of consumer backlash to it's originally planned 4080 12gb naming scheme. This likely pushed the performance of the 40 series mid range cards down further. The 4060/ti in particular are really bad compared to their predecessors. They seem more like xx50 series replacements to me IMO
@CJonestheSteam72
@CJonestheSteam72 8 месяцев назад
Pricing match up might work except in the UK the 6800 is still about £430 compared to £480 for the cheapest 7800xt
@johannesssssssss
@johannesssssssss 8 месяцев назад
@@mitchellhalter4 Also funny how the 4060 uses the xx7 SKU which was afaik always the SKU for the 50 cards (except the 950 which used the GM-206). So I guess the 4060 Ti should have been the 4060 and the 4060 should have been the 4050/Ti.
@alexandruilea915
@alexandruilea915 8 месяцев назад
I agree, this is also a case of "not being named right" RTX 4080 was. It's the same chip as the RX 7700 XT so why not call them RX 7700 and RX 7700XT? Or at least 7700XT and RX 7800 standard even tho. Or 7800 and 7800XT since they share the same chip.
@mars_12345
@mars_12345 8 месяцев назад
Nvidia is doing better, because they did it totally on purpose, no room for "oh it's just a mishap". 4090 is a great card, but expensive. Then there's 4080 that's close to 2/3 of 4090's performance for less money, but still expensive for what it gives. And it has only 16 GB VRAM. Then we had a try to push a bar even lower by having 4080 12 GB and only when faced a backlash from community they decided to rebrand it. Eveything else though follows the down-trend, basically being off by one to half a tier. That's why the only case I may consider Nvidia right now is power efficiency. 4000 series excels in it. Otherwise - big middle finger from me. AMD doesn't seem to be as much scumbaggy, but they aren't pure white for sure. And their cards are mediocre in performance, which the launch of these two just confirms. Less cores gen to gen is a "fuck you" move to customers. If you cannot keep up - don't call your products the same way. It's like being a diamond manufacturer, releasing generation after generation, but at one point you release coal instead. Still carbon, sure, but it ain't the same thing. Change the scheme or rebrand fully. Otherwise you are misleading your customers. Price helps to mitigate this, but it's almost like painting grass green. So yes, most cards from both sides should be tiered lower. Or just be a decent, real uplift gen to gen. @@mitchellhalter4

It would be nice to see idle power draw figures in the reviews. For someone who uses their PC a lot and only occasionally games it's really important in figuring total system power consumption since the GPU is idle more often than not.

@@RatRugRug 1% lows are basically the frame rate stability identifier, average FPS doesn't really tell you much, if in a duration of, say, 5 seconds your FPS fluctuates from 40 to 80, you average is 60fps, but the actual experience of jumping between 40 and 80 would obviously be absolutely awful, which is what 1% low statistic would show you, you can see that average FPS is 60 but 1% lows would show something like 45 FPS. I had EVGA's 2070 Black OC, and yeah it was a workhorse for a number of years. I recently gave it to my friend (along with an 8th gen i7) so that he could play Street Fighter 6, and it hit the recommended specs perfectly for 1080p, so despite all the crap it got back in the day, that card really shows its worth, especially with DLSS. That said, I recently upgraded to a 4070ti (also a card that's gotten a lot of crap) and oh boy, what a difference it made. I can count on a bare minimum of max settings 1440p with ray tracing on every new release, but in most cases (like with Armored Core 6) I can usually get 4K max everything at an unbreakable 60+. I haven't even had to bother with DLSS yet. You're definitely in a perfect place to feel a massive improvement once you upgrade.@@calebsmith7179

Guys, that was a fantastic first hardware review after the incident. Like others, I heard the corrections and I really appreciated it. Also, I didn't care that you had to reduce the number of cards tested to ensure quality was there, it was just important you included a good selection and I think you did that with the mandatory previous gen cards and then adding in the 2070 for an older gen comparison. This is a great first review video back. Oh and those indicators you added during graph discussions was a fantastic idea to ensure the viewer is following along with the presenter. It actually bothers me when people act like this is a dramatic improvement over their previous reviews. I would agree the presentation is better, but quite frankly that's the biggest improvement. There is no easy way to confirm what the data accuracy was before, but if you want me to be completely honest, I don't think the accuracy was bad enough to justify having less than half as many GPUs in these reviews. But that's what they basically have to do because of people in the community who quite likely over exaggerated a data accuracy problem, which as far as I can tell at least was nowhere near as bad as it was made out to be.

@@bolbi914 The only thing in that first video that I found truly egregious was the fact that it wasn't monetized, that kind of a move is what I would expect of a politician who is convinced that they are going to lose the next election unless they basically just destroy the career of their opponents, not what I would expect a tech RU-vid channel to do when another attack youtube channel has made some mistakes. Something else that's interesting, at some point, gamers Nexus said once LTT grows beyond a certain size (I forget how Steve worded it) he will start treating LTT like any other company, The fact that he was so aggressive and pulling out the moves of politicians tells me one thing, Steve is only favorable to companies that pay him to be favorable to that company. However, it would be nice to either have a short pauseable clip 'zoomed out' after each segment or bunched at the end of the video like an appendix where it shows the full range of cards against each other if people want to get a fuller picture overall. (Top line to 1-2 gens back if still decently relevant like the 1080 TI) since pricing fluctuates so much these days.

I just bought a 7800xt for my first pc build. Ive been having doubts though bc ive seen reviews that say, when runnning a dual monitor setup, one of the two screens green screens. From what ive seen via forums, people are saying its not a hardware issue but a software issue. Something to do with the adrenaline software running the GPU at 2565MHz with two monitors plugged in... when the card is rated for a max of 2430MHz. Someone i saw said lowering it down to the rated 2430MHz fixed the issue. Someone else I saw said they switched from the adrenaline software to afterburner, and uninstalled the GPU drivers using DDU and reinstalling in "driver only" mode which also fixed the crashes. I just wanted to bring attention to this issue people have been having with the 7800xt so that anyone who wants to run a dual monitor setup is aware. I personally am still deciding on a dual monitor setup... leaning more into an ultra wide 1440p monitor l (bc of my intended usage if the pc for gaming and university). I also want to see tech youtubers talk abt the issue in order to their views on the issue, possible fixes, and so on. PLEEEAAASSEEE LINUS MAKE A VIDEO ON IT 🥹

I've found neural engine effects that use GPU compute to be extremely demanding and (last I checked) far better on nVidia than AMD. I personally feel stuff like that has a bigger impact on day-to-day timeline playback & scrubbing performance than the renders you do a hand full of times near the end of a project. I'm not sure it paints a very clear picture to only include encoding performance as the main recommendation for an NLE. Timeline / effects performance on par and sometimes worse than a 1080ti is the main reason I sold my 6900XT and bought a 4080 even though I was extremely happy with the AMD card otherwise and I'd love to know if that's changed for future purchases.

This is probably day 1 of launch. I do expect atleast 5-7% performance increase when drivers are optimised and games are optimised for RDNA3.

If they just named this card the 7800 (non xt) everyone would be happy, that's where they went wrong.

That's an issue caused by marketing, not products themselves. AMD decided to add a new highest tier to bring back XTX naming, and it consequently pushed everything up a tier. 7900XT -> 7900XTX 7800XT -> 7900XT 7800 -> 7900GRE 7700XT -> 7800XT 7700 -> 7700XT Generational increase in performance is there, but unfortunately it's in line with the price increase. I suppose messing up the naming was the way to increase actual gen-over-gen MSRP. Reviewers tend to focus a lot on MSRP as it's a nice number marketed everywhere, but it's the real world retail pricing that truly matters. It is highly variable based on region and availability, so it's pretty much impossible to evaluate for reviewers. For example, I got my 7900XT in March far cheaper than my friends got their 6800XT/6900XT/3080 a year prior during the shortage. Every reviewer under the sun was saying how much better value the 7900XTX is, but for me 7900XT was 900€, XTX was 1200€.

Lots of improvement! Love it! However, I wish the avg frame was on top and 1% low below it.
