Matt, bet you have a bunch of "B-Roll" footage from your phone/cam from the perspective of the cab floor looking at the cab ceiling... CONTENT: GOLD ! Always enjoy tagging along in the tractor like Juan Brown.

Matthew, when I start my truck I put on my seat belt. This gives the engine time to properly lubricate before engaging the transmission. So it is a good habit to have as personal protection for both you and the engine of your chariot.

If you have metal in the cab consider building a rig like the guys at Welker Farms did with a magnetic foot.

A video on your fuel stations. The set-up, capacities, and gallons per minute. Just wondering because I noticed you use a gas engine pump versus an electric pump. And I currently use “Gerry” cans. A lot of lifting.

Great video Matthew. I wanted to comment on how you are disking though. You are making extra work for yourself, there is a more efficient way to work a field that you may want to consider. You want to go around the outside round turning to the right, and the rest of the field turning to the left. The reason you do the opposite direction on the outside from what you are doing is the disk throws dirt to the right. Over time, that dirt builds up around the outside of the field. So you want to be turning right the first round, so you are not building up a ridge on the first pass around the edges. Then you want to be turning left on the rest of the field, for the reason you mentioned in the video: you can turn left without raising the disk. That does not mean you don't have to work the corners, you still have to. The whole point of the disk you are using is that it allows you to make left turns without raising up. Then when you are finished, you work the corners the same that you have been.

Would using a normal plow or maybe a chisel plow with smaller spacing's not save you having to do two passes? We sometimes even put wide cultivator sweeps on our chisel plows to make sure all the soil get worked. Also the same for the discs. You get seedbed discs with the discs a lot closer together. Would using one of those with a heavy roller not also smooth the field in one pass? Just thinking there is a lot of fuel to be saved. Not trying to be a know it all but as a fellow farmer I do like saving money :)

Hey Matthew I have a question why do you not run a soil finisher because a lot of people in my area of farming runs slow finishers but why do you guys not run soil finishers

1. Over time, does your rice fields get higher, lower or remain the same in height excluding land lowering due to the water table lowering. 2. What is happening over time to the land height due to the water table lowering?
@freshchicorice

Hi, I'm Sri from Sri Lanka. i've purchased more than100 acres of rice land. Traditionally, locally farmers are planting in small block for instance 1 acre is divided as 4 pcs. for me its not comfortable due to I have big land. plowing and harvesting are very difficult due to movement of machines. my question is how many acres of land can one block comprises?

As a lifetime southern Indiana row crop farmer your tillage videos are very frustrating. To each their own on how to prepare a seed bed, but way to many passes and such small tillage equipment. But do love the videos and I support all aspects of agriculture! Rice is a long way from corn and soybeans so I find it interesting none the less. Keep it up!
@matthewmeents1287
@matthewmeents1287 4 года назад
Yeah, but guess what? Northern California is not Indiana. Our soils are so hard and different we can’t do no till. We have to constantly work the ground. The practice that you think is “frustrating” is actually very necessary.

Why can't you "dress the corners" of a rectangular field with the first couple of passes, and then do the rest of the field with a single spiral toward the center? Wouldn't this be faster than having to make critical turns at the ends of every row?

Explain right and left braking to me....that I had no idea about 😲🤷‍♂️
@buckhorncortez
@buckhorncortez 4 года назад
Tractors have independent rear brakes. By using the independent brake, you can make the tractor pivot around the rear wheel that is locked by the brake. Lock the right rear brake, turn right, and the tractor pivots to the right around that rear wheel. Lock the left rear brake, turn left and the tractor pivots to the left around that rear wheel.

@jeffcrum5023
@jeffcrum5023 4 года назад
Jocala Farms rice takes a lot more labor that row crop. Here in Arkansas I have one employee per 250 acres of rice. 5-6 passes before planting to get the fields ready. Not sure how they do it out there but I know here it takes a few hands to get a crop in and out.
@matthewmeents1287
