I love your easy recipes. Im 71 by myself, this is how i like to cook. Love crockpot recipes also, please share. I love your Sunday devotionals, it starts our weeks off right. My mom and dad took us to a Lutheran church every Sunday then went to our famous chicken house for lunch. We spent rest of day visiting friends. We did always. Mom said you cant start a week without going to church, she was so right!!! We spent entire day to praise the Lord, thats why your devotionals mean so much to me!!!😊
This looks delicious. Such a great alternative to cooking for 1-2 days and spending $100’s of dollars for groceries for one meal. You and Marie are precious. Have a blessed Thanksgiving
As I get older, I've realized a turkey is over whelmimg. 1-2 per year is enough to raise. A whole chicken even makes dinner & 6 pantry meals. Canning up overnight crockpot bone broth for pantry is a bonus. 😊
Your recipes are always cheaper than fast food, and semi home cooked. You need a cookbook, fast, cheap and semi homemade!!! Let me know when comes out, id love a copy or more!!!!
Very encouraging to see that a senior couple can still afford Thanksgiving dinner for a reasonable price. I'm sure alot of folks will appreciate your showing us. Happy Thanksgiving y'all. : )
A perfect dinner, it's just me for thanksgiving so I'm going to do a couple of turkey and stuffing roll ups with gravy over the top and a couple of sides . Last year I didn't even do Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner it sucks being alone during these times of the year. Thanks for the video it really looks delicious
Your Dinner looks so good! I have always added a little vinegar to my green beans to! I was shocked when I saw you add it to them! I've never seen anybody besides myself do that! I cook down the juices in my yams until they're thick and then add some marshmallows and pecans to them! So yummy! I also cook the water out of my beans! Its how I like them! This was a wonderful meal Calvin n Marie! Thank you and God Bless. 🙏🙏❤❤👏👏
I just found you guys and I’d just like to say…you’re such a sweet couple. ❤😊 Love your kitchen! It’s so light and happy looking and you’re NOT old 😅 like you said in the spaghetti dinner. My Grandpa is 99…that’s old ❤
I’m surprised that so many people are unhappy with Walmart’s rotisserie chicken. I live in California, but I love how flavorful the chickens are. And are always so well cooked, never dry or over cooked. I’m glad because it is very convenient to buy a rotisserie chicken and use it for so many meals. Thanks for this video. Times are really hard now and it’s good to see money saving ideas and recipes. So good to see Marie up and able to spend more time in front of the camera. Barb from Ca.
Thanks very much Barbara. I think that it has a lot to do with the individual Walmart stores. At our Walmart store we used to like to get the 8 piece fried chicken but for the last couple of years it is over cooked and we haven't been able to enjoy it as much. Have a Blessed Thanksgiving, Calvin and Marie
I don't have a Sam's Club membership and can't recall having their chickens even when I knew someone with a membership. So I have to use Walmart's chickens, and they taste pretty good to me. 🤷 Sucks they went from under $5 to nearly $7, though. They're a billion dollar corporation, treat their employees awfully, and still have the nerve to raise prices.
@SouthernCountryLiving I will tell you the trick to fried or rotisserie chicken from Walmart. If you notice a hand written number on the label or bag, that's the time the chicken was made. Walmart allows chicken or finger food such as hot dogs to be under the warmer for 4 hours before being replaced.
What a great dinner for 2 right from the pantry! Marie if you hold those eggs in the water while you peel them, the water seeps under the membrane of the shell and it will slip right off. I love how you doctored up the dressing! I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving with family next week! Love & Prayers ❤🙏🏻
Hi Calvin and Marie thank you for showing how to put a thanksgiving meal together for $15.00 very good price. Thanksgiving is a very sad time for me on thanksgiving day is when i lost me whole family so i am alone with just me eating the meal. I am sure i will have leftovers. Thank you Calvin and Marie for shareing this info . Gypsy from Michigan.
Wow 😯 I can’t get a rotisserie chicken for cheaper than $8 I love how supportive, Marie is 🥹 Always cheering, Calvin on and so encouraging 🫶 God Bless 🙏✝️
I have never thought to put Worcestershire and apple cider vinegar into my canned green beans! Great tip Calvin! I’m going to try that next time I cook them……. your stuffed eggs look great Marie! ❤
Marie and Calvin your dinner looks delicious. Most like their own corn bread dressing, but sometimes you have to do different. I think Sam’s rotisserie chicken beats all others, I will be alone as my family has other plans, but the Lord will take care of me, he always does. Everyone take care and don’t forget to pray for those that are sick. God bless you all.
$12 for a Great meal!! I will be watching for this Thanksgiving meal and we did the samething last year had a big beautiful roaster already cooked by the store. Calvin you are right you cant buy a fresh chicken, cook it for the under $5 cost of purchasing a cooked chicken. God you bless you both!!❤❤
Dear sweet Marie, I prepare my eggs the same way you do except I boil them for12 minutes and use ice with the water. Mine are always easy to peel. Sorry dear Calvin. I never use vinegar. 😃Love you guys!!!
I was just wondering what my hubby and I were going to do about our dinner. We are seniors living on a tight budget. Thank you for the inexpensive ideas.
I’d be perfectly happy with this meal for Thanksgiving, everything looks delicious. You definitely can’t beat that price, goodness you can’t even get a combo meal at McDonald’s for that amount. God bless you both.
Great video! You gave many people ideas on how they can cook a frugal but delicious Thanksgiving meal and you can't beat Sam's Club rotisserie chickens. I enjoy watching you and Marie so much. You are both down-home good people. Thank you for sharing your lives with us. 😊
Hi Marie & Calvin, that is a wonderful meal for a small family.I like roasted chicken better than turkey also.Thank you for sharing. You both are so kind & humble! ❤️
Loved this--great idea. One thing I like to do with my leftovers is make "Gobbler" sandwiches. I take the turkey and add bacon, stuffing, a thin sliced purple onion and put it with cheese (provolone or pepper jack) on sourdough bread. I spread the bread with mayonnaise and cranberry sauce before I add the ingredients. Then I toast the sandwich so I put butter on the outside of the bread and heat it in a pan. It tastes like a Thanksgiving sandwich. I would love to see a video of what you do with your leftovers.
Good evening Calvin and Marie. You did outstanding on a tight budget, a very good meal & plenty of leftovers. Marie I cook my eggs the same way, no green yolks here either. Thanks for this I am sure it will help out many folks who are on a tight budget. Take care. Sending 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 I.
There are many people even in this country who would view this meal as fit for king. We waste so much food here. No one should ever look others down because they can’t afford what the “normal” is. We do what we have to do with and can certainly make it taste great as you two have shown. God bless you both. I’m not sure how I missed this but I have been sick and having to go in to the drs office for an injection 5 days in a row. On the 4th visit my infection came back clear. Thank God. There’s something all the time, right? 😊 Enjoy your weekend. Love you both ❤
Thanks very much Vikki. We pray that you are feeling better now. Marie started an antibiotic today for a couple of problems that she has been dealing with. We are just thankful that we both were able to enjoy another Thanksgiving together.
I'm glad you told about those tea bags. I will have to get those for sure! The meal looked scrumptious. I love how easy the dressing came together too. Great video. Have a blessed Thanksgiving. ❤
Marie I put my eggs on the stove and let them strike a boil and then turn off the stove and let sit for ten minutes and you have the perfect boiled eggs time consuming to❤❤thanks for sharing love your videos 😊
Hello from KY love your channel ❤️.I will be right over to eat with you😊.I had never heard of putting some Worcestershire sauce in the green beans ,what a fabulous idea .So when are you available to cook mine?😊 Have a blessed week ❤
My husband and I are with you on the turkey , not our favorite either. I did get a turkey breast for our dinner and we always have ham too. Your meal looked delicious. The price cannot be beat. I hope alot of people watch this video. They will be pleasantly surprised what a wonderful meal they can have. Thank you so much...Mrs.Steve
2 people couldn't eat out this cheap. My Momma and so do I make eggs like you Marie with ice in the water after and the eggs always peel good. Nice looking meal. You can freeze the leftover chicken too.
I heard the comment that Walmart tends to overcook their rotisserie chickens I most certainly disagree with that. I have returned several undercooked chickens. The ones I returned were being used for chicken salad. If I were putting the chicken in casseroles I would have kept the undercooked chicken because in casseroles it gets cooked a little longer. As a rule now I bake the chicken myself for chicken salad because I have gotten so many undercooked chickens from Walmart.
Here un Maryland, average rotisserie chicken is about $6,99 but we have a store similar to Costco that's called B.J. 's and their chicken is $4.99 and huge. I'm a senior and it gives me 6 meals. What I can't believe is a cooked and season chicken is cheaper than buying a raw one .
We had noticed that also. It's hard to believe that you can buy a rotisserie chicken already cooked for less than buying a raw chicken. For us seniors that is a great deal.
I love your apron. If you ever make some with your motto on it I’d be the first one to order one. Southern Country Living doesn’t mean anything to us here in Canada. We’re Northeners. Love your videos❤
Hi Marie and Calvin. I love how you always make the simplest, inexpensive ingredients look so scrumptious! 😋 I usually cook up a lot of food, even though I'm not cooking for a big crowd. I'm gonna keep it extra simple this year! And, I'm only a fan of the fatty parts of the turkey, which is why I started cooking turkey wings instead. Thank you for showing how to keep it simple yet delicious! ❤
Thank you so much for sharing this very economical thanksgiving dinner. Prices are so high now it is great to see a meal that can be eaten many times for that price. We will definitely do this as it will be just the 2 of us for Thanksgiving day this year. God Bless you both!
Just binge watched these last two videos everything looks great! I agree with Kim, Sam’s has the best rotisserie chickens they are delicious and the best price you can find. So glad to see you and Calvin cooking together again, you seem to be feeling some better. Happy Thanksgiving!🍁🦃🫶🙏
You guys are like me I love ❤️ cranberry sauce but love ❤️ the gravy better. Have to remind myself not to forget the Prilosec. That was awesome. Be blessed keep me in your prayers as I will you both ❤️🙏
So happy to see both of you! Y’all look great. I recently made something like this meal. I made instant smashed potatoes. Dry gravy mix but I put about a tblsp of the juice from the rotisserie chicken in the gravy and had buttered corn. Difference is I paid maybe over $20 due to where I live. We always get our rotisserie chicken from smart and final. Y’all have blessed thanksgiving ! Love y’all ❤️❤️❤️
I'm catching up with your video's as a new subscriber. Everything look's absolutely delicious and I'm going to give it all a try! Thank you both so much!
Just wanted to say how wonderful this video was! I think that you both did a brilliant job on this super easy and economical Thanksgiving dinner. I agree with you both about the preference of chicken over turkey. I always make a chicken for us instead of turkey mainly because of the better flavor from the chicken. I am definitely going to watch this again and again and probably do this for my small family during the holidays. Thank you so much for your efforts on this...the way that you showed the prices and preparation methods was great! Happy holidays to you both!
Thanks very much Zane. I'm glad that you enjoyed this video. If you do try this meal please come back and let us know how you like it. Have a great weekend, Calvin and Marie
There is nothing wrong in using convenience foods to save some time, and a lot of times the meals come out satusfying. Looks like you are actually having two Thanksgiving meals this year, one private one and one with rhe rest of your family, and I think that 's a good idea. I have never tried Walmart rotesserie chicken for the reason you said, that it always looks overcooked and shriveled (and not worth the cost, you could add),. Glad you enjoyed your supper.
Calvin and Marie This was a very good video. Many people are alone or have a spouse and no one else for dinner. Good alternative doing something t the fast and easy way. This year my husband and I will be by ourselves for the holidays.
Your Thanksgiving meal looks delicious 😋 thank you for sharing....I would also like to know where you purchased your purple little nite light...thank you 🥰
