You know, the boating industry could have collectively come together to make transom plug holes slightly smaller than hull and live well holes so you couldn't make the mistake, or for a few cents could have added a paint ring around each hole with a different color and dyed plugs to match. But they haven't in the decades and decades that people have been putting the plugs in the wrong holes. Good for them. They know a sunken boat is another sale, and there comes a point in your life (if you haven't reached it already) where you stop caring for stupid people with money because you know they got it off the sweat of someone else who is smarter and paid less.

I picked up a friend's boat from another friend (I know). Anyway, it had my motor on it so we are just all sharing it. When I came to pick it up, it had rained with the plug in. It was full of water. I pulled the plug, and hooked it up. I let it drain for a few minutes, and then started to drive SLOW. I figured that it would drain enough by the time I got on the actual road. I was wrong. Even though most of the water had drained, there was still enough in it to dump the boat off of the trailer when I took a sharp turn. Thankfully, a big strong kid was behind me when it happened. He helped me dump what was left, and put the boat back on the trailer in minutes. It was heavy traffic, so that was good. It didn't hurt the boat at all. Also good, considering it wasn't mine.

On a small boat that can go 20mph+ you can drain the water without a bilge pump by simply accelerating up to plane speed and the water will drain, when it's empty, you either plug it, or drop some one off, to put the trailer in, while you speed around until you can load the boat on the trailer.

Asked me if I wanted to go fishing after work I said sure I’ll meet you at the ramp, 1st clue he showed up with a 1980 sprint boat (granted it was “new” to him I know) 2nd clue he had 3 rod and reels that’s it. I specifically asked him did you put the plug in, straps off of the boat, build primed and trolling motor plugged in. Yes, yes, yes, yes, so I backed the boat in the water park the truck and trailer and we go fishing……….for about 25 minutes. When a boat starts taking on water you can feel it getting lower in the water. So I asked him “you are sure you put the plug in” he replies “yes I put BOTH of them in”…………:BOTH??? He said yes, “the two plug thingys right by the motor mounts and primer bulb and fuel line” my reply was “get us to the F’ing shore as fast as this piece of shit antique will go”

I can almost forgive the plug, it’s the straps that blow my mind. My trailer is right beside a boat launch, so many people back in without undoing their straps.😂

Easy easy fix for no plug in the boat, especially that little light one with that decent sized motor, FULL SEND across the lake until the waters out. Shoot after a heavy rain over night in our tiller drive 14ft fishing boats we used to launch them and just pull the plug while driving to the fishing spot. Reach down when empty and throw the plug in.

Small boats you can plug it from the inside and unplug it while you are traveling to drain the water. Haven't seen anyone comment on that yet.

I was a tournaments ski boat dealer for quite a long time and we always had a new tournament boat on a hi Mtn. lake at a family owned home. I thought everyone including the parents, siblings, nieces and nephews and of course my wife and daughter how to take care of a boat and most importantly how to drive one. Fallen boards are a little trickier than outboards and Inboard outboards. Nobody ever seem to learn how to tie the boat up correctly or docket correctly. They damaged one of my demo boats constantly. It drove me crazy. They would trash a boat in one season😵‍💫

My cousin almost sunk his boat because he forgot his plug, even after going out on some shakedown runs so he can get used to the feel of it I told him "the first thing you do when going to launch a boat is always check if your plug is in" luckly the boat only took on a bit of water and is fine

Most people don’t know this, but if your drain hole is at the back, centre, bottom below the transom like 99% are, you can simply drive the boat up on plain at decent speed, say 30 mph plus, and nearly every drop of water will drain out. Then, if you have someone with you, have them pop the plug in while you’re still in motion. If no other person is with you, you can either let the boat run at 20 mph or so, leave the cockpit (if safe to do so, open water, tight steering that doesn’t flip back and forth) and do it yourself. Worse case scenario, you stop the boat, let a few litres/gallons in while getting back there and popping the plug in. ps. If you have a bunch of water in your boat too while the plug is in, from leaks or rain etc, you can do the same versus bailing or pumping. Just bring the boat up to speed, have someone pull the plug (or yourself if in an aluminum boat as it’s right there) maintain speed until all the water is out and pop the plug back in and boom, no water on board.

Or since you are in view of the dock, put the thing back on the trailer for 2 minutes.
2 месяца назад
@@TokenTombstone I think if the trailer was still in the water he’d have done that. With the amount of water that appears to be on board, he had likely been out there for a bit and the trailer is parked. I’d go with the quick drive method and empty the boat that way to save it sinking.

Get the boat moving fast enough for plane and the water will go out, may take a bit, then put the plug in . I’m surprised the bilge pump wasn’t working, but if you’re confused on which hole, you might not think about the pump

People in boats, in crowded areas, is usually trouble in the making. The last guy was funny. I’m taking on water!! What do I do? Turn on the bilge pump! A nice bass boat will have one. It’s happened to all of us but do something soon. Another trick is to run the boat up on plane at speed. Water in the bilge will be sucked out.
