I think when he talks about patting his back for doing the bare minimum...he's referencing Trump getting himself nominated for the nobel peace prize, then whining about how no one talked about it, and he didn't win "Where my fucking medal, tweeting from my brand new condiminium" He is definitely taking Trump to task. And what is he getting away with? Everything.

I really believe that this is about the pandemic, politics, human rights, and progress in general. It's about the fear that the rich and powerful will not be held accountable for brushing the less fortunate aside, letting them suffer from discrimination, poverty, illness, and erosion of freedom, while those powerful people (particularly those in government) get to go on relatively unaffected or punished. Also, in regard to the your comment on mask mandates, a truly enforced mask mandate may work, but we as a nation during this pandemic tend to be more focused on making sure we can do as we want rather than do what we need to do to protect each other. Much of law enforcement has said that they don't enforce the mandates due to fear of public pressure from anti-maskers. In countries where there were strictly enforced mask mandates and true lockdowns, the spread of covid-19 is way more under control, even taking into consideration the most recent surge in cases this fall season. Some people were really angry about the lockdowns and mask requirements, but at least there are fewer dead there.

I think we should look at it on a story line , too. In We did it! , we see X which is our villain in the other singles that came before . We see his point of view in life.In Dirty (which is the single that came before this song ) the X was in an election and we saw him fail. Dirty was a more happy and less heavy song because of that I think. And now we see X saying "I am gonna get away with it , i am gonna be a winner." so he says he is gonna come back and be the powerful villain again.The sick which is us in his point of view , the humble people who is aware of the bad things and trying to do the right thing, gets sicker and the rich, himself, gets richer.We are sick because there is no way we can fix the world with our little hands ,the world is gonna just get worse and worse and because we still try to fix things meaninglessly, we are sick. We are engaging with something impossible. Grandson is very progressive, very anti government, he is on the side of the protesters. That’s where he stands, and where I stand. As for not understanding the hate for trump, I don’t know where to even start. Love the background flag. At first grandsons lyrics seemed hard to discern, but I think it's very anarcho-libertarian based. Grandson himself may have some left leaning views, I wouldn't know, I just jam his music because I like it. But he plays a bit to both "sides" imo. Like ratm, his lyrics seem to be heavily based in Anarchy and libertarianism. The opposition to a totalitarian police state that our country has been obviously heading towards since it's birth. That end lyrical content is part of my point. Really break down and listen to what he says. The "I'm gonna get away with it" part can mean a lot of things depending on your perspective which is the point of those lyrics, catchy and relatable to all. It could be from the drop where he says, the evil tyrant who set the trap and left with a smile, that they're gonna get away with it. Or it could mean the opposing end. Starting the next revolution in America, and getting away with it, from his deepest conscience connected to God, Nature's God, Nature, the Gods, whichever terminology you prefer. That's the two different ends of the spectrum from my perspective, these two things are one of the most major contrasts in our lives. Liberty and tyranny.

We didn't." And how the rich consistently gets away with their shit "im gonna get away with it!" He has two distinct characters present in most of his videos. Himself, who represents the lower class everyday citizens that are victimized by society, and the one with eyeliner who represents higher society/those in charge

The bare minimum he's talking about is voting. Just voting is the bare minimum you can do to be politically active. Please reflect on the fact that you said all these rich people don't recognize the work you do, then went on to say you feel like people just skate by. You, just like those rich people have no idea what they're life's detail. Capitalism is sucking up to the nearest teet. You work for people with money, what if you lived in a community that had no money, where everyone in your community made minimum wage and no one had enough money to invest in anything. And having to work 60-80 hours a week to keep a roof over you head, but never have money to fix anything so everything around you get dilapidated. You head up better off just being on welfare because there is no dignity in your work. You can go through music and these messages have always been there. Do a review of "Harvest of Shame" , it's a documentary from the 60's. If that shit can't wake you up to the propaganda your country teaches about "pulling yourself up by your bootstraps"... which was literally a joke before it was a metaphor. Nothing will.

I personally feel like the song itself is about American politics and American based issues. > "We Did it!" > "We didn't.." > "It's all getting better now!" > "It Isn't.." Grandson is technically a liberal - he is very left leaning when it comes to politics. We "did it" because, well, Donald Trump is not going to get another four years in office. However, "We didn't" because he's getting away with a lot of things he has done. We also had to pick between Biden and Trump, both of them being a relatively poor choice for America. And, correct me if I'm wrong, but Grandson isn't the biggest fan of Biden, either. In a sense it's "all getting better now", but at the same time "it isn't". We, as the American people, had to pick between the lesser of two evil's, and that's not how it's supposed to be.

I think an important thing about this video is that in the comments grandson made a comment describing his own thinking behind this song (which he doesn't always explain his unique spin and meaning in his songs) and it may give you a bit of insight into its creation and meaning, also I believe the poster talking about the donation is meant to show Trump donated 2 million when he thinks a loan of 1 million is "small" thus following the idea of politicians or people in power patting themselves on the back for the bare minimum they can offer for the sake of publicity and not even because it is the RIGHT thing to do.
