"I wish I was a dumb pop star so the words wouldn't matter to you." -Mars Argo ("Runaway Runaway") "I'm a dumb pop star in my own right." -Poppy ("American Kids")
phine_ positiv Im definitely in favor of saying your opinion, if it has any value. Just bragging about how hipster and anti mainstream you are is just a stupid and childish manner of asking for attention.
Punkt
"Sold my soul to the man with a handshake" is even more sad now after she talked about what Titanic did to her... I'm so happy she left his abusive ass and I wish the best for Poppy and Mars. They are both so strong for leaving Titanic. 💕
Everybody is focused in Poppy's weird videos, but nobody notices her fantastic Music! It's so deep, talking about consumism and the pop culture esthetics... It is awesome!
Her videos almost all portray those messages too, though. Just in a different way. Her music is an ironic message about such things as pop culture and the music industry, while her RU-vid channel has this sarcastic, grim, usually abstract satire of everything going on. Her music is smart lyrics over typical(-ish) pop instrumentals to hammer down the point while her videos are like surreal commentary in the more horror-like direction.
Sensiblenonsense no tf it isn't good. it shouldn't be considered music, because he simply doesn't try. it has no point whatsoever from what i've heard. absolute garbage
MrSenseofReason there's literally nothing predictable about poppy. Poppy is not a person she's a character Titanic Sinclair invented in his mind. you have to be in his mind to understand what he's thinking. there's no way it's predictable when you don't even know Poppy isn't real.
'Millenial' typically refers to anyone born between the early 1980s to 2000, but sometimes gets used to describe people born well into the new millenium (actually Generation Z). I'm 30, and while I personally resent the label, am technically a millenial.
i really miss when her songs were more like this, not that her songs right now are bad, it's just that this has a more nostalgic and memorable feel to it.
Well her entire channel is about the journey of a young woman in the music industry (you know conspirasys) and she is just continuing with her theme (lol sorry for my bad spelling)
We're not saying that it's her real personality, we're just enjoying the character in her videos and the meaning behind the vids. She's actually really nice and funny in real life! :D
Ok but like can we talk about how amazing these lyrics are? A song about and for the youth that doesn't promote drugs, excessive partying and promiscuity? That it is totally ok if you're not like the masses? This is deep and genius and I love the fact that this exists!!
Khaleesi 666 Yeah, I know, I love it. I kind of feel connected to its message, I love it so much. And I was honestly kind of weary of bringing that subject, but now that you have, I agree. Transtrenders are everywhere and now you don't even know who's a boy and who's a girl.
Agreed. I still don't understand what Poppy is, but these lyrics are brilliant and very moving. I would not have expected something so emotionally honest from something like Poppy that "appears" very meta and cheesy most of the time. The creators behind this project are very intelligent. I really like it.
Coragyn Buck I'm just going to leave this here in hopes that you will understand what Khaleesi meant in their comment. m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Nf1NT_brKd0.html
I love how everyone believes this is all real. poppy is not a real human she's a art experiment to see how media manipulates people into loving a star even if their songs all sound the same and contradict them self's.
Um...her songs don't all sound the same? She's not an "experiment", she's legit represented by one of the most notorious pop record labels in the US. And yes, despite what "Night Mind" says, she is a real human. She does very much exist and she has done a myriad of interviews showing that she really does exist. She is not Santa. gtf
Because people are idiots. They feel better about themselves if an artist they like isn't known amongst their peers. Then when they get famous, they pull that "true fan" shit, instead of being happy that their favorite artist is gaining success.
Im here on December 4, 2016 Just putting this on here just in case she gets famous and my friends don't believe that I listen to her before she was famous.
I like how some people don't like Poppy or Melanie Martinez because they think they're "scary/weird", but honestly they aren't. People just are afraid of things they don't get. (Random opinion expressing, feel free to scroll passed)
I agree, I think we humans are too obsessed with placing meaning in everything, trying to "understand" things. When we can't understand something we freak out and call it "bad", "weird", or "chaotic". We need to let go of the idea that everything has a meaning because we are the ones giving everything meaning, if you get what I mean. So in reality, 'weird' doesn't exist. It's just us humans that feel that way about things we don't understand. Sorry if I was being a little too philosophical. I'm just glad someone else feels the same.
Panic! At The Popsicles Hey, i like your opinion, the first minute when i heard Melanie, i loved she. But when i showed her videos to other people, they didn't like it because they think she isn't really normal or common. And now, when i meet Poppy, it isn't was for their song's, i met she for her new channel. The videos makes me feel some strange, but i don't hate her videos. And late time, one day i saw some song's of Poppy. And i love them so much! They are really cool, and they remember me some old songs. So, i like Poppy, and i love Melanie
this is honestly such a deep song. it sounds so happy but if you listen to multiple songs made by her they are all connected. I feel like this and other songs of hers talk about her life growing up. she has messages embellished into hwr music that is easy to spot but we don't. or we do.
I listen to like the first 5 seconds of her songs and instantly like them! Gotta thank Daz for getting me to check her out, her videos might be bizarre but her music is FUCKING GREAT!
+Valerie Perez Daz, or Daz Black makes comedy including vines, gaming videos, and the sort. TBH people who say who 'brought' them somewhere are either lonely and want to feel like part of a group or just attention whores. Your choice on that majority.
*["American Kids" Lyrics by Poppy]* [Verse 1] I live under a rock with a blacklight I'm a dumb pop star in my own right Started life at age 15, got ahead with fake IDs If you're with me Sold my soul to the man with a handshake Lost control but I don't think it's too late We're dying young on broadcast news Forever 21 is cool if I make it [Pre-Chorus 1] Girls, let's put on all of our clothes [Chorus] I don't wanna be like American kids I am not on drugs and I've never been I don't care about your party, I belong to nobody I don't wanna be like American kids Drugs don't work like they did for my parents I'm not down with the new hit 'Cause today I just don't get American kids [Verse 2] Last time I told mom that "I love you" Was the last time I ate food from a drive-thru It never happened like they say I think my father may be gay but I don't know So I burned all my shit in a bonfire All my teen regrets were a trip wire I should be everything you hate I should be higher now than space but I'm static [Pre-Chorus 2] Boys aren't even boys anymore (Huh) [Chorus] I don't wanna be like American kids I am not on drugs and I've never been I don't care about your party, I belong to nobody I don't wanna be like American kids Drugs don't work like they did for my parents I'm not down with the new hit 'Cause today I just don't get American kids [Outro] Liberty isn't cheap and it ain't free I'm a millennial, blame it all on me American kids American kids American kids
Can people stop commenting they were here before she gets famous. Cause first your too late she is already famous and second why the fuck does it matter.
I get so mad when people don't understand Poppy. Like calling her videos creepy and weird. They're meant to represent certain things wrong with society. Or when they say "I'm proving I was a fan before she was popular and on the radio!". She's already popular so obviously you're not a fan. And she's most likely not gonna be on the radio. Not all famous people are. Like, I'm sure a lot of you like Melanie Martinez and yet, when was the last time you've heard HER on the radio? And the thing that makes me the most mad is when people make conspiracies about her even though they don't know anything about her. I'm sure if you took the time to actually get involved more with the story of Poppy, Mars, Titanic and even Charlotte it would be a lot easier to make conspiracy theories. edit: yooo please don’t take this comment seriously i was an edgy 14 year old who wanted to prove i was a “true fan” 😭😭
AverageJo Pity Party was on the radio for a few months last year, I think. Poppy probably won't be on the radio because she doesn't have a record label and most of her songs aren't something you'll hear on the radio, except bubblebath.
lmao conspiracy theories are just for fun. and creepy or weird are words that literally describe her or Melanie Martinez's music like fr im a fan of both but id call their music that among other things.
This made me understand Poppy a lot more. I left on my own at 17. It fucked me up. Poppy is such an amazing beautiful woman and I could only hope the best for her.
I know that you both posted this so long ago but I just wanted to say I'm so sorry for what you had to go through, I send all my love to you both and i hope you're both doing better and that you're both ok and in way better situations that what caused you guys to leave
Had to come back and listen to this song. I truly miss her Bubblebath EP. It was my anthem back then. Now listening to this brings back so much nostalgia. I really miss the “That Poppy” era omg.
Hi there, no point coming down here into the comment because all u will see is "this is proof I liked her before she became big" trust me, I wouldn't waste ur time :)
Lottie Purple I generally like this one because the lyrics actually mean something. I know that it's a parody of pop music but the lyrics aren't shit so ya know. that's why I don't like pop usually because it's all the same
give it some time. She's really on the verge of really blowing up. Believe me, if I'm here and am a fan, she's getting recognition. I don't even listen to this genre of music really.
Y'all are commenting about how good her music (which I can't deny cause it's great) and that's exactly what titanic and poppy want you to say. Poppy is a portrayal of an average, basic pop star. Just a character that shows how easily people get sucked into pop culture or famous pop stars. Take a look at her RU-vid channel and you'll find so many different messages that pop stars do
We can't really do anything about that. Sure, maybe that's what she WANTS. But that doesn't mean it's illegal to just enjoy listening to the song, does it?
