An artifact untapper in CEDH?!? That's ridiculous.... right? Kyle makes his case for why this uncommon card may be the KEY to UNLOCKING the full potential of the format's best card.

I run Manifold Key in a cEDH build of Sai, Master Thopterist. Using it to get anything out super fast, including The One Ring, and then always having it to untap that or a Mystic Forge to keep churning is totally solid.

I think Manifold Key (and enablers like it) need synergy in the command zone to be truly viable in their slot. Shorikai is probably one of the best ways to make the most use of key. Liberty Prime can use all aspects of the card too so thats an exciting brew idea now. 🤔

voltaic key is actually better because it can target itself for combos, the unblockable mode isn't used much, but both are good

Honestly I see this very close to Delney in a few ways: while it does enable a tons of cool juicy plays, it mostly revolves around making already great cards work "a bit better". The fact that without any of those cards at your disposal the key is a dead draw and even when you get to draw rocks and such the card only makes them slightly better in exchange for a virtually "pseudo-card" makes it look truly sound unnecessary. If you have ring on board you're already ahead and therefore you don't need to be "even more" ahead. Making a creature unblockable is a nice extra but 3 mana sounds like a lot to do that unless you're hitting for lethal and not many creatures in the meta do that. Through my personal experience i'd rather have a great card (like crypt/ring and such) and a card to protect it rather than a great card and something that just purely builds on the already established value of the first one. Looks great on paper but I would probably end up real sad if I got Key instead of a Counter to allow my Ring to hit the board. But overall a great episode.

Thank you! We appreciate the extensive feedback. I think in decks with blue, absolutely counters feel better. For big bodied commanders not in blue like Korvold/ Ob Nixilis… we’re getting somewhere!
