Really enjoyed this months tour. Your attention to colour and form detail when planting is admirable, I never quite get there and end up planting where I can. Considering the weather challenges you have in Coastal Ireland, you certainly deal with the damage in such a positive manner and its refreshing to see that for a change. You certainly made me feel better about the leaf spot I found on my early potatoes and greenhouse tomatoes, here on the SE Coast of England. So thank you!

Aww, thank you 🥰 Definitely try not to let the pests and diseases stop you from enjoying gardening 💚🌿 at the end of the day it's only plants....😀 if they get too troublesome, then it's time to change them for something more manageable. I had a good talk to the roses this morning and gave some of them their last warnings 🤭 Thank you for your kind comment and happy gardening 🤗💚🌿

About the circular area with bark mulch: a fun experiment would be to sow daikon radish there! They grow really fast and get huge leaves so maybe they can outcompete the weeds 🤔then, later, any that you dont eat can be left in the ground as awesome compost material for the worms to eat 👍

So amazingly lush. The backdrop is so vibrantly green. You have made such wise choices and planned so carefully. I just buy it and chuck it in LOL.
@spudsandroses
@spudsandroses 2 месяца назад
Haha 😂 There are plenty of times, when I, too, just chuck plants in 😂 I did get better at impulse buys of plants at the garden centre, just because they looked beautiful at that time, but I had no idea where to put them....and they ended up staying in the nursery pots for ever and ever and finally either dying or just withering away to much weaker plants.... The garden is looking really lush 😊💚🌿 thank you, Robin 🥰

Fab video!! Great to see the contrast between the seasons It is strange there were so few gooseberries, I just checked.... yes our ones are the same. It was really interesting to hear what you have to say about apple/fruit trees too. We had the biggest crop ever of apples from one particular tree two years ago, there was not as many from that tree last year. I was unsure why but your theory makes sense. It always makes me happy to see the bees flying around the garden. It has been quite windy here at the moment. You have done a great job in creating shelter in your garden. It is difficult to do. I also bought a blueberry plant last year. It was in august or so. It did not grow much. I figured out it was in the wrong soil. I am growing it in a pot. I changed the soil & it is much happier this year. No berries yet though. Your blueberry bushes seem to be very healthy & big. It was a really great & comprehensive tour. It makes me really happy to see your garden so healthy & happy.

Horticultural oil and sulfur spray both organic. Spray the rose bushes in early spring for the rose slug. It works amazingly. I dont have swiss cheese rose bushes for the first time in ten years. Love your garden, it's very beautiful❤

Thank you so, so much 🥰💚🌹 I had not come across the Sulphur for roses before, and probably it's my own doing for totally blocking my eyes when seeing the rows of chemicals intended for roses. One claiming to be better than others or working faster than others.... It seems to be more readily available in UK, but I will hunt it down in IRL 💪 I was delighted to read that the sulphur is harmless for wildlife. I have bluetits nesting in the hedge surrounding the rose garden, and wrens are constant visitors to this area, too 😀 I am genuinely delighted for you to recommend it 😊 Thank you again and best wishes, Maiju 😊💚🌿🌹

Yeah that nepeta 🤯💪💪 Have you ever tried to look undermeath it to see how many divisions you could make? Or do you root the small shoots that appear later? Om thinking in september-pctober, when things fall down and you may e *want* to slow down, then maybe that kind of slow propagation work could be nice 👍and profitable! Same with lavendel. Oh, and the flowers of both plants could start a border at the end of the garden 🤠👾

Your garden is looking glorious. All the colours and green growth. It’s a great credit to you. On the subject of fruit and vegetables: while I admire anyone who takes the organic approach, it seems to be virtually impossible to grow anything without it being eaten or destroyed by some pest. What’s the point in even trying if you’ve likely to lose everything? It must be very frustrating.
@spudsandroses
@spudsandroses 2 месяца назад
I hear you 💚, and seeing how difficult it is to grow organically, especially difficult when first starting out...as it will be a combination of making own mistakes plus pests and diseases, I actually do understand why so many chemicals ARE used to grow in large scale. There are plenty of times when the time and effort don't seem to balance the actual harvest outcome, but in a way, still going through the process and gardening in general has its own positives, like mental and physical benefits 😊 Originally I would have used a lot different sprays for roses, for aphids and for black spot - that's up to about 6 years ago, but then I noticed ladybirds disappearing from the garden. The bees and butterflies were still about, but not ladybirds. Now I have bluetits (nesting in the hedge at the rose garden) and wrens clearing as many aphids as possible, and the ladybirds are starting to make an appearance again. That's probably the reason why to combat the ''Rose Slug'' I don't want to reach for the chemicals again. 😊💚🌿

Hi Maiju 👋 ❤ What a lovely tour of your garden. I especially love the flowers especially the Nepeta. I don't have any at the moment but made a note of it! Also made a note of the purple flowered broad beans, how pretty are they 💜 Shame about your brassicas but everything else doing great 👍 Wow what a difference in your hedges and rose garden from the winter 😍 I love your drone shots. Doug has a couple of drones so been going to ask him to do me some. In the meantime he bought me a small one in the photography local show for our wedding anniversary. My word I can't even fly it in a big open field so could be a while yet before I include drone shots 😂 Have a great week 🌻🌹

Thank you, Linda 🤗 😂 the drone can be tricky and definitely can't fly in breezy weather 😅 I'm sure you'll get the hang of it! It was good to include the January clips, and the contrast is huge 😊 Come next January, I would have it all forgotten how lush it looked in Jhne, so it will be nice to re-visit those clips then 😊 Have a great week! 😊💚🌿

Same here with carrots - nightmare with germination/slugs this year. I love the mashua/oca planter too - it looks great. The oca leaf is so pretty. Greenhouse looks amazing - love the borage interplanted with the toms. Funny how it looks so spacious while everything is a reasonable size - but in a few weeks you won't be able to move in there! Look how that apple tree has grown and fruited so quickly. The foxgloves pick up the colour of the roses though, no? I thought they complemented the roses well. In your cottage garden circle have you thought about a water feature in the centre? Beautifully produced video as always - love the drone shots and the Jan/June contrasts. The garden (and you!) looks so summery and it was lovely to see the sunshine - esp, when the weather has turned back to bloody winter this week here!!! Have a great week and yes, roll on the July tour! 💕💕🌱🌱
@spudsandroses
@spudsandroses 2 месяца назад
Thank you, Kerry 🥰🤗🤗 The foxgloves keep seeding themselves everywhere...BUT I did buy a ''perennial'' foxgloves, Digiplexis, and have added to the planters 💚 Thinking of the placement position, I probably put them too close to the edge 😂 and would need to move them in Autumn.... I have though about a water for the bees and birds, but probably within the plants, rather than in the centre as we do have a fountain in the rose garden, right in the middle (the circular back thing with stones...) but I don't have it on when filming (I did put it on when Niall visited us 😊) So there is moving water option as looking down from the cottage garden to the kitchen garden 💚

Hi Maiju, your garden is looking beautiful, a lot of lovely blooms, I have roses in my allotment, that luckily don't have your damage on the leaves, the red flowers on the broad beans were beautiful. at 12.59 mins is that a perennial climbing nasturtium ? everything is looking amazing always nice to see pics from January to now, take care... Steve
@spudsandroses
@spudsandroses 2 месяца назад
Hi, Steve 😊💚🌿Thank you. Those plants are Mashua, a nasturtium relative. They are grown for edible tubers, but can also be used as an ornamental for ''greenery'' as it is a climber, so perfect for walls. I grew it last year in a pot and it didn't grow that well, but I kept a few tubers from that harvest and planted them in this large planter. You can really see how strongly it is growing 😊💚🌿 Have a look at this video from last year, if you want to see how the tubers look like: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_OCi5YnnRUA.html Happy gardening, Maiju 💚🌿

About the vivel and strawberries: do you know what Native predtors eat the vivel? Or some smell they dislike? I know a classic companion planting combo is strawberries with garlic 👍
